  • hate these dumster can't pick from them

  • I know the Goodwill in my area does throw out a LOT of usable items! I worked right next door to the store and saw so many nice items being thrown out it was crazy! Some of the people that worked there would just toss big loads of stuff in the dumpsters towards the end of the day! Also knew people that would dumpster dive there and ALWAYS found good stuff! I don't know why the throw usable items out but they do.

  • a lot of places have compactors... everyone makes a lot of waste

  • Why is this not more known? Everyone needs to let everyone they know about this, put Goodwill out of business.

  • The drive-by compactor. Could have been from anywhere. Weird video.

  • thrift shop toss away things because stuppid people donate junk stuff that just be easyer to put in there garbage i seen moldy, durty, pet pissed, broken, not working crap that stuppid people are just wasting there time and just filling up there trash bins

  • @vivitar45 Use spell-check.

  • why doesn't goodwil sort the garbage stuff out - metal stuff that can be sold as scrap, wicker baskets, books, cardboard and wood for burning / compost / processing etc? here in london ontario i've seen the garbage truck pulled up and watched them throw away this stuff. also I've been in the back - I've seen antiques and collectables that I was told are put aside for their in store auctioning - however it never went out to the front... but how often I do see broken overpriced stuff in the store.

  • My exworks at a goodwill. One of her jobs is to sort through donations to determine, by the store standards, what will be put out for sale and what will be thrown away. It's a freaking crying shame. A lot of people also "donate" dirty, unsellable clothes though.

  • Goodwill in our area is a scam, the manager and friends pick out what they want first, give me a break, they are paying minimal wage to handicap people and taking full wage from companies to do it. After they steal all th expensive items, they put the rest on the floor are you kidding They are a scam

  • wisconsin goodwill fired me for telling people about freecycle . I worked for them for 3 years . I saw alot of GOOD stuff be trown out . 1 item that erked me was a galvenized wash tub . no rust . they trew it out . that would have brought in $20 . BUT NO . goodwill trows that out . when tehy tell you the glass is going to 3rd world countries . the dumpster IS 3rd world .

  • @chanelgia , yeah tell me about it, i work at one in mo, By far the shadiest, unprofessional, dishonest company i've ever worked for. I,ve been there for 3 years now. no raise, The money generated by your donations do NOT go to help thoise in need, it goes to line the pockets of the ceo,s in corporate. Not to mention they treat their employees like total shit.. no lie. noit a charity, its a total scam!

  • just use craigslist, freecycle instead. compactors are shameful

  • I work for a company that hauls garbage to the dump and i look forward to being there at the same time as the truck from goodwill and other like stores. I bring home computers(the one i am using now),fairly new electronic keyboards, ghetto blasters and a varietry of other good stuff which i sell. I guess one mans junk is another mans treasure

  • Goodwill also throws away brand new items sometimes still with tags because they are Greedy They keep taking so they can pick through the valuables throw the rest away. People there are many places to donate Goodwill in my opinion is a scam! The CEO's managment get richer the poor and needy get nothing!!! Alot of their stuff should be free, everything shouldn't cost. Goodwill should give to the kids and needy for free. They get tons of clothing. They should have a free drive, no they sell it!!!

  • We recycle over 135 million pounds of stuff a year that keeps it out of the landfill. Yes, we throw a lot of stuff away. On average, we price and put out about 50% of our donations and sell roughly 35% of that. The rest goes to our clearance center. Clothing that doesn't sell there goes to companies that sell it to third world countries.

Yes, we don't pay for donations, but we pay people to process it (they are not volunteers), people to work the store.

    You sound like an ex-employee

  • The money Goodwill makes goes to job training and placement programs to get people jobs in your COMMUNITY. You see at least one of these people a day and don't even realize it.

These trash bins and compactors are for the things that are unsellable. The donated items that are peed on, covered in puke, broken to pieces, recalled and whatever else. Sadly things like that are donated daily.

See the good Goodwill does, and let's not be ignorant to the cause here.

  • You're wrong my friend, Goodwill only consists of good people. I was there just the other day and found used underwear with streaks on it for half off!! Now where else can you get a deal like that!!??

  • I work at a Goodwill store in Indiana. We have a trash compactor out back, but we only use it for boxes, glass, and the bags from all the trashcans. We have 3 Goodwill Outlet Stores out here in Indianapolis that has opened up just a couple years ago, that takes everything we salvage out. And at the Outlet Stores they sell everything we salvage to them so people can buy everything the bulk at a VERY low price. I run the back at my store. I'm pretty pick what stays and goes. :-D

  • the sign says wrct thrift store. thats not even a Goodwill

  • actually, it says MRCI Thrift Shop, and yes the money does go to some good cause.

  • I work at a Goodwill..We throw alot of stuff away because the item is either broken, stained or non working....believe it or not but our Goodwill Industries of North Central Pensylvania District spends over $80,000 in garbage removal each year! Thats because people drop off crappy items that cannot be resold in the store

  • I was just at that thrift store again on Saturday, they were out there working, and I got to see inside the compactor and it was all full of stuff they've thrown away and they put a trash can on that tipper to dump more in. They were just chucking out all kinds of stuff. I'm sure a lot of good stuff too.

  • I'm sure there was good stuff in that trash of theirs....our boss at out store tells us "when in doubt throw it out". She tells us that because we only want the best condition items on the sales floor. You wouldn't want to buy something crappy from a goodwill

  • @Shane1163 ummm y would they just throw out good stuff? If they were gonna, I think theyd just take it themselves. I worked at a Goodwill as well and everything I saw go into the compactor was broken damaged or stained. When we had too many donations, clothes were pressed into these awesome 2-ton cubes and given to other stores who were low on donations. And yea, ppl drop off garbage all the time, often illegally n it sux. WE DONT WANT UR DIRTY PISS-STAINED COUCH IN FRONT OF OUR STORE.

  • @Shane1163 are you fuckin dumb. i work at one too and kubotaman2004 is right. your seriously gonna argue with someone that works at a fuckin goodwill. they throw away junky stained items. not good material.

  • @kubotaman2004 better they throw it out then sell junk:) been to a few godwills and bought nice things

  • The goodwill by me has 3 6 yard dumpsters two garbage one cardboard recycling. They also pile lots of bulky crap out on the street that runs behiend their warehouse that is a giant mess. I don't know who they expect to take it but it never gets picked up.

  • i use to work at goodwill and yes we did pich

a lot of garbage at least every day in the dumpster or like you say on the sides of the

back aley streets and the reason why is becose

of ilegal dumping at goodwill thay think it

so funny to dump broken no good idems or just plan garbage [refuse] at the goodwill and

to insede of putting donations in the proper

area thay put thim infront of the main enter area and when it rains thay get soke wet

then become funky with milldew mold.

  • We have a giant Goodwill warehouse near me and they have 4 compactors similar to this and they get emptied at least once a week. I will try to get some video of them in action...

  • hey thats cool to it has the cart tipper on the compactor

  • ya it looks like it's just one they can roll up to it and away when they switch compactors. In their back room they have a bunch of big blue trash cans, like the residential ones, and they just throw all their stuff in there, when it's full they wheel it out and dump in the compactor with the tipper attachment.

  • yeah those are cool :) i like that system alot of apartments use that to

  • Yep, WasteCnx is right...They do throw a lot of the stuff they receive out. Most of it's crap anyways. Just hope they've got some environmentalists there to sort out anything recyclable.

  • ya, and who knows what kind of metal and electronic stuff might be getting thrown in there.

  • Exactly

  • It probably was a grocery store before goodwill got it, and the compactor was just included with the property.

Also, its probably just for cardboard boxes

  • Theres a goodwill around here with a compactor too, they actually do throw out alot of donated stuff, and sometimes I see a goodwill semi at the transfer station unloading a bunch of donated stuff they dont want.

  • No they use it for stuff. And most thrift stores will leave stuff out for a certain period of time, then after so long if it doesn't sell, they pull it off and throw it away.
