You know, Gandhi's a great film. But E.T. The Extra Terrestrial should've won Best Picture and Best Director for Steven Spielberg. But at least it won four Oscars for Visual Effects, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, and Original Score. Well done, E.T.
I didn't know E.T came out the year I was born. I remember it being released on VHS for the first time when I was very young and we were so excited to get it for my birthday!
@Psifonian2 your picks are so bad how is Drew Barrymore better then better the Jessica Lange how is Rutger Hauer better then Louis Gossett Jr and last how the fuck is Krystyna Janda better then Meryl Streep dont you know anything im sorry but you really dont know what a good movie is or what good acting is
Best Picture: "Gandhi" Best Director: Richard Attenborough Best Screenplay: "Tootsie"; Best Actor: Ben Kingsley Best Actress: DEBRA WINGER 50 YARDS ABOVE THE OTHERS Best Supporting Actor: Louis Gosset Jr. but Robert Preston in Victor Victoria deserved it as well Best Supporting Actress: Jessica Lange
BEST SONG : UP WHERE WE BELONG ....JOE KEEP ON SING FOR US
Best Picture: "Tootsie"; Best Director: Sydney Pollack ("Tootsie"); Best Screenplay: "Tootsie"; Best Actor: Dustin Hoffman ("Tootsie"); Best Actress: Diane Keaton ("Shoot the Moon"); Best Supporting Actor: Kevin Kline ("Sophie's Choice"); and Best Supporting Actress: Dana Hill ("Shoot the Moon").
@retrorocker I constantly looked at my watch and squirmed in my theater seat when I saw "Gandhi". Biographical movies are rarely good, but often boring. Only "Coal Miner's Daughter" and "Milk" come quickly to mind as exceptions.
In my opinion Robert Preston should have won the Oscar for best supporting actor for "Victor/Victoria"

Even Richard Attenborough has said that Speilberg and "E.T." deserved the awards. And I actually like "Gandhi."

@ooks You are not alone !!!!!!
Debra Winger was simply perfect and her performance is one of the best in the entire movies history; She was 1000 feet above the others on run.

One critic said after this ceremony "'E.T' and 'Tootsie' are films...'Gandhi' is a laboriously illustrated textbook".
Thoughts?
