wow... that's nuts in all my years of living In MA I don't think I've ever seen that many trees down... in only 6 inches of snow...that's crazy... great video narration...
@ZeroFossilFuel thanks for posting and yes I had a similar experience that night albeit a bit later as seen at v=j2ua9Fq1PWQ. One question though... what city in CT is this from? My guess would be up north by Simsbury.
That must have been some awesome pizza to drive all that way, despite the weather. And I thought that you didn't have power? Your garage in the end was lit up, was it not?
Yep, that was Nucking Futs. The last time I drove in winter weather with trees falling and risking my life for fast food like an idiot, my wife was pregnant, had a craving, and wouldn't shutup about it. I was saved by a snack food machine at a car wash which had the same items I was looking for... S&V chips, cheese doodles, and resee's PB cups. It's strange what a woman can make you do.

@MegaMaxemus Oh we get plenty of snow. Last season we had as much as 50" on the ground an one time. It's just that the spring and summer were so wet this year that the leaves stayed on the trees longer than usual. They held all the heavy snow that would have normally just dropped through to the ground until many of them broke.
Wow, reminded me of the ice storm we had back in 1998... Felt like a bomb went off everywhere I was looking.... Bridges were closed for two days because of the huges chunk of ice that were falling on the road from their structure and... 31 days without electricity....
I heard that it was bad up north there during the storm. It didn't get that bad along the shore line were I live.I had power.I didn't have power when Iren hit.I am from Michigan,so I am familure with this type of weather. The power companies in Michigan have there own tree trimming crews and hire privet ones to maintain the lines during the summer. The first thing I noticed when I moved to Conneticut was all the groath and underbrush around power lines.Lack of maitiance is was the cause of blackout
@dodgemcl Hell yes. I learned this skill with the Tacoma in 4WD driving up muddy abandoned ski slopes to get to remote radio transmitter sites and such. Takes some practice.
I got only one thing to tell you mister! ----->Chef Boyardee!!!
Anyhow your video brings back a few interesting memories! I used to live in the mountains of Virginia and all of the country people always carried chainsaws with them during the winter months as a precaution and trust me, it always paid off during those wet snows!
PIZZA! PIZZA! i need PIZZA!.... did it go something like that? Lol!... would have doen the same. You drove careful and there was no ice it seems. Shoveling snow time again then. Winter in the Uk looks like this at my village becuase theres no salt machines. Granted though Id only have to walk 40mins in any direction and id come accross someones house. Bet it was worth it after that. Hope the snows not too bad now - k
I'm originally from Ma, and I wouldn't have done what you just did. It isn't worth a pizza, and I think that pizza was probably stone cold when you got home, anyway. Sometimes it's best to just hunker down, and it's ALWAYS best to have enough food, water, and fuel to cook and stay warm for at least a week. I do. Always. You say we need to seperate from the grid. A guy like you? An electronics genius I respect immensly? What are you waiting for?
Let's see...I know trees are falling from the heavy (unceasing) snow because some trees on my property have already fallen. Hummm....let me drive around and maybe I'll be fortunate enough to have a tree fall on me in my truck because a pizza is worth risking my life over.

Don't get much snow there do ya. Looks like an average day in Pennsylvania winter. Seems the trees don't like to be frozen before winter really hits.
