In my humble opinion, the top best vocalists in rock history, Jim Morrison, Colin Blunstone, and Dennis Yost. Dennis Yost should be in the Rock Hall of Fame. His vocals are gold. Any fans of Dennis who never really listened to the Zombies, check out Colin's Blunstone's, gold also.
@TheWanderers2 Pretty much say any real band of the 60's were ans some still the best. You can't forget Bread I'd Give anything I own to go back to those days.. I know what I'm talking about, I'm 61 never thought about that age when I was in my teens. My Mom & and Dad were in their late 40's . Sure miss the music and my parents..
I know what you mean. I hear this and it gives me the strangest kinda sad feeling. It takes me back to my childhood home and block in 1968 Los Angeles and I remember my big brother Ricky was a Marine in Vietnam and how my family was always worried about him. Oh if I only had a time machine to go back to all the people I loved back then. Most of them are gone now.
This is so classic. Yes it was yesterday, but man was it good. Dennis left us with some sit back relax wonderful songs. He was a true talent that is missed. GB You and thank you. In the vaults of time safe and secure.
@dgags1 Well the guy that played sax on their song "Spooky" was Mike Shapiro but he went by the name Mike Sharpe so I can only guess that he was the samr guy that played the sax on "Stormy." They are both very beautiful songs and I never realized that two of the original members of ClassicsI IV went on to form the Atlanta Rhythm Section which as you may remember did a remake of "Spooky."
@chris48able "Save Room" from John Legend seems to be heavily influenced by it. Probably went to sleep with this playing, and woke up thinking he dreamt it. lol
This song was the highlight of some of my childhood vacations. Smooth music that takes your mind to a peaceful place. Others have copied this tune but their different styles work differently on the ears and imagination.
i heard this song in the east side story of los angeles tape listenin in the car cruisin i tought is was so cool and it is ,one of best best songs i ever heard period.......
@vinkleman Great insight about that sax player. Guess you're a sax player who doesn't get any gigs because you play jazz, and no one wants to hear it. Take up guitar, piano or drums. You'll actually get to play with musicians who get gigs and play music that people (read kids) will understand and like to hear. LOL
When he belts out " Bring back that sunny day " you know he means it and the older I get the more I want my sunny day back to. The girl, the age, the time.
We lost the art of simplicity. 4 or 5 guys, playing and singing without the stuff that would otherwise distract you from realizing they can't sing. Great Sax, Great Voice, Great song, Great harmony. All Lost to Auto tune, laser shows and just HORRIBLE lyrics. Listen to the top 5 songs of today. They're all the same damn song. This music was Rich with feeling, today's music is empty and soulless. There are a few exceptions but... something's missing today.
@meatpole55 I believe the sax player is English White, yes, that's his name! The only black player in an otherwise all white band. Although English White joined the band in 1969, the sax player on the actual "Stormy" session was probably a session man.

@yobeutch ~ Thanks for the shoutout, I'll check out your recommendation. FYI ~ I ran into Kathy 8 years later, in 1977, and she told at that time, "Ronnie, if we'd gotten married back then we would have 2 kids and been divorced by now." Talk about a crusher, geez. Today she lives in Vallejo, California and, believe it not, has never been married.
loved this song when i was a kid,and it still sound so fresh and wonderful today. many songs from yesteryear has stood the test of time. and i won't even so this for music from today's era;no substance.it seem today that even just want a quick hit and then become famos. this is why i don't even listen to or even buy this crap today. but this song is a classic.
I was on leave before heading off to Vietnam. It was June 1969 and Kathy, the love of my life, & I saw Dennis Yost & the Classics IV at Melodyland (a venue "in the round") in Anaheim, California. We argued at some length, after the concert, about getting married before I left but I knew my very life was at great risk and demanded we wait. Six weeks after arriving incountry she wrote a letter saying that she simply could not wait. It's been 40+ years now and I still think about it all.
That's a shame. I really is. We all make the best decisions we can at any given moment. I hope you went on to meet someone and had a great life with that person.
@MrRonnieG Dam!!!! Sorry to hear that mate. I wish I could chat and have a beer with you. You sound interesting. Anyway I'm always on the hunt for new music and stumbled across these guys just last year. The Explorers Club . Kind of a Beach Boys sound, you'll get it on the first chord. Their first album is Freedom Wind and are recording a second album at this moment called Grand Hotel. Just saying this because they do a cover of the Classic IV's Stormy.
@MrRonnieG wow . .what a story . .I;m really sorry .the 60's and Nam had that tragic effect on so many lives . . of course OUR generation had FEELINGS different from today's youth . . I feel for ya and am sorry. Selfish and confused girls in this country-no loyalty and THANK GOD you made it out alive . you better off. GOod luck !
I was saddened to hear of Dennis Yost's passing. His voice is gold. Get him into the Rock n' Roll Hall asap. Thanks Dennis for the great songs over the years!
It doesn't get much better then this. Great simple chord changes. My favorite is Spooky and it always reminds me of my lovely sister. She was a child of the 60's and I love her. Wonderful music!
@TheLavaris Sorry, but I must disagree with you. First of all, John Legend's song is not even a remake of Stormy...he named it Save Room, and the lyrics and musical arrangement are different. Therefore, you cannot compare apples with oranges. If anything, John Legend STOLE some of the music from Stormy and applied it to Save Room, and I cannot have any respect for that. Stormy is the original classic, and it is SUPERIOR BY FAR!!!
@Dancer810 he didnt steal the beat he bought the rights and was granted permisson by the producer who own it so thats not stealing and i was saying his use of the beat is better then stormy like i said in my previous comment i like the orginal but i just find john legend use of the beat better thats all R.i.p stormy
I MISS and LOVE YOU STORMI ANNETTE STAGGS (SEPTEMBER 27, 1975 - AUGUST 6, 1995) .... my life's outcomes changed the day you took your own life in your own two hands but I won't die the same as you requested me to keep living. - John Staggs *your little brother*
They dont make em like they used too.......Seem to be a lack of passion these days.... Men had the guts to be romantic and still be men.... Nowadays it seems as if it´s almost politically incorrect to hold up the door for a woman..... Sucks...
they can't make music like this today they only try to remake it theres know talent in my opinion out there thats why they have all those reality shows american idol ,and you got talent it.s remakes and remakes i can't watch it but those who can more power to you your lifes that boring
man this songs the shit.. im only 31 but hands down this song makes all the stuff of today obsolete.. irrelevent... i mean for reals, whos gonna be listening to drake in 30 years. probably just drake. outstanding song and band..

Wonderful music!

i like the orginal but john legend is much better
TheLavaris 5 months ago

They dont make em like they used too.......Seem to be a lack of passion these days.... Men had the guts to be romantic and still be men.... Nowadays it seems as if it´s almost politically incorrect to hold up the door for a woman..... Sucks...
