5:40 - Damn right. Also reminds me of a scene from the last Rocky film where Stallone scolds his son for complaining about his lot in life: "Life is not all sunshine and rainbows. It is mean and nasty and, I do not care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees if you let..If you know what you are worth then go out and get what you are worth but you have to be willing to take the hits."
Blaming anyone gives them responsibility and power. When black folks blame phantom white patriarchies in error, it diminishes the instances when they're really discriminated against, and seems to only serve to perpetuate more racism. Sometimes it's right to call racism, and sometimes it's just an excuse for one's own failures. Most of the time, it seems like the latter, though.
It's simple & it's easy to blame everyone but yourself, for ANYTHING. But, the easy path is usually the wrong one. Peoples of all colors & creeds can learn from the messages you bring to many, TMOT. Keep preaching my friend, you ARE reaching people! Your work might not be easy, but it's right! God bless you!
I can't beleive he drove for 8 minutes without getting pulled over. jk I'm white, I'm what many would call a "redneck" I wear boots and jeans and had a beard after I got out of the Army 6 months ago. But guess what? When I went to find a job, I cleaned up, wore slacks, dress shoes, shaved, and spoke well. It is what it is. This dude is spot on here though. We all are responsible for the choices we make.
"White man" is nothing more than a thought. Those of you who call yourself realists and blame the white man are nothing more than the realists who think it's a black mans fault he didt get that job.
Any Black person who blames whites for their failures is just a weak individual looking for an excuse to justify their lifes failings! Im a succesful Black man who worked hard to get where I am, color means nothing thats just an excuse!
tmot, i just want to ask, after all these years..i have learned that you can try to enlighten the ignorant, with a degree of sucess. but ,my friend can you fix stupid?there are terms for ignorance[uneducated] crazy [mentally ill] etc. whats the term for plain old stupid??

Great advice. More people need to think before they act. I can tell you that the vast majority of business owners want competent workers who don´t get into trouble. They want the best workers for the job that they can get. They need to just to compete and survive.
$4.25 an hour, do you know £2.25 an hour. Can you see you are moving back to Slavery. If you have any kids how are you going to feed them, & yourself & pay your rent & bills. Health care insurance, fuel to drive to work. Marcus garvey was right, black people need their own economy job creation for your own community, in your own country. And Black people stop killing each other and build togeather. The system was set up based on discrimination, based on segregation,
I overcame 4.25 by employing a little old concept called perseverance. Tell you what, you keep focusing on slavery, the white man and segregation. I keep doing what I do, not letting anyone stand in way. Peace,
There are people with degrees who can't find a Job, business are closing down. So if People with degrees can't find work. What Black people need to do is leave America. Get out while you still can, or go and die in Iraq fighting the Iraqi for their oil. and the Iranians, to come home to live under a Bridge.
I have always been of the opinion that the economic effects of 400 year slavery have a deeper impact than the "slave mentality". The mentality of a poor guy or "slave" can effect anyone. I also feel like the creation of businesses or as you put it, Building Your Own Ballpark, is the MOST effective way to FIGHT CRIME in the black community. Well that and allowing blacks to exercise their 2nd Ammendment Rights. Your thoughts?
@Chani14922 One may argue that discrimination against whites in this day and age isn't just accepted it's promoted. Discrimination, no, hell just criticism of blacks and you're labeled a KKK member
nobody cares!! I freed a thousand slaves, i could have saved a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves..Harriet Tubman...You create your own prison fool, as long as there is identification with the mind you are a slave and will suffer...who are you?

Then why are you in this house? Let me help you by putting the block in play. You are looking for mess. There isn't any here for you. Move on. You can call yo' self Nigga till the cows come home. I'm done.
ATTENTION HUMANS: Google Tom Shelly's niggermania page for irrefutable, well-sourced facts about MOON CRICKETS. He has videos of niggers eating menstrual waste out of cow pussy and pictures of CANNIBAL PICNICS.
Also, google "Black Invention Myths" to learn the TRUTH about niggers' outlandish and not-well-thought-out lies about all of the shit they say they invented.
Those sites will confirm once and for all that niggers are a pathetic race of sub-humans.
Hey, if ya jump me, be gentle. I have thought this stuff through and I know it sounds shocking at first. You'll have to dig deep into your heart to see the bottom line of what I'm saying and then do the math from there.
Pour some of everybody's tax money back into the private sector. It's not like you'd see that money again yourself anyway. Fix a lot of problems with one stone.
Before you all jump on me, think deep about what I'm saying. I am a conservative who had long held that "oh yeah, that was then and this is now. Pull yourself up by your boot straps". That's all good and well. I'm like that still. As I say, an inheritance is an inheritance. Do YOU "deserve" your inheritance or should the Gov. decide whether you do or not? Man, give black people the inheritance of their slave fathers and you'll see how carefully it will be invested because of what it represents.
Nevertheless, that said, I believe it would be practical, and perfectly morally just, as well as great for the U.S. economy for today's generation of black Americans (rich or poor) to receive the rightful inheritance of their fathers as per Lincoln's plan.
NEVER deny a person's inheritance.
It is not a "hand out". Obama would have more than stimulated the economy and created jobs, and bank loans, and more, had he made good on the rightful inheritances of so many, that his own party denied.
TMOT is right. The other thing is that DESPITE a person's color or humble economic beginnings, undisciplined people in general wind up facing the same problems. There are winners and losers of every color, shape and height. It's a very universal thing.
The damage done from slavery can NEVER be repaired. That doesn't meant hat we cannot move forward. That doesn't meant hat we cannot become self-reliant and better than we are today as a Race. When we do, we must defend it and we cannot trust other "minorities" (or anyone else) to have our back.
@NewKokujinOptions Also, when it comes to playing by the rules, I believe that we as Blacks should stop playing their game and make our own. When you own your own business, or work for Black People (if those individual blacks accept it, of course) then you can have dreads. Of course, I don't advocate killing or stealing, but do advocate self-defense to make sure that nobody steals from you.
Right On! You are a very articulate and intelligent man. I am a white man and I hear ya, I know it is different but I take the earring out for a job interview just like one may have to lose the dreads if you want to get the job. We are all the same and there is a certain image of what is considered "desirable" for higher-level employment in this country. Keep the videos coming, it encourages important discussion.
I love 'It Is What It Is'. That was part of my 2009 New Year's Resolutions, to carry that attitude. Can't remember ever being so happy, either. Pure realistic viewpoints. Drop the idealism at the door. Happy times.
hmm, ive heard what you have to say, so how do you explain the rules of growing up in an environment that doesnt support you in what ways could someone pacify the negative treatment of society towards you because of your skin colour , should we change our skin colour
No, can a tiger change it's stripes? I am proud of my color. We must learn to overcome the system by not playing it's game. For me what has worked is a belief in Christ and that if God is for me, no man can stand against me. That has worked for me.
Did you know that we are the hebrew israelites that the bible speaks of.The reason that we as a ppl find ourselves in negative situations, is because we are under curses that god put on us because of the iniquity of our forefathers.
This guy is awesome! I think he speaks and knows the truth because he does not identify himself as a black man, but as a follower of Christ. I wish we would all humble ourselves and live for Chirst and his teachings and not live by the cultural standards society has forced on us.
Hey...did you ever think that if you had long hair, dreads...or whatnot that the boss would not think that you might not be grown up enough to work for whatever company you were applying for? That it might not be the color of your skin...but the attitude you were portraying when you came in to apply for whatever job you were applying for?
i am a white man and its men like this who continue to take off my blinders that have been put there by media and ignorant people and show me there are great black people in this world and that they are VERY capable of being as successful as they desire.... this man with his ways of thinking have my utmost respect and i thank him for helping me develop love for my fellow man no matter what color his skin may be
I wish there were more intelligent, moral black people like this guy. Unfortunately, I just don't run into that often. Mostly it's just the rude, ignorant ones. The same is true with whites. But the ratio differs I would argue. Just like when you study prison population, drug abuse, academic testing and STD's and always find blacks with the poorest scores.
i think this vid is very good. As a white australian i look at my life and the reason why i have a good life. The reason is that i had the support. I had a 100 people similar to this guy in the video tell me the facts of life and help me become a model citizen. I think south africa will improve but not in this life time. Give south africa a few more generations and things will improve.
I have watched some of your videos and I have to tell you that you have a great message. I am an older guy trying to reinvent myself after year of living off the percentage point and hustles those days are over for me.
I know that we are different in some ways but its rare that I see your videos and dont come away a better man for having listened. Thank you for posting and keep up the good work.
Due to my devotion to God, Family, Friends, Church, Work, Volunteer Service and my Rock and Band, when I am driving is the only time I have to do them. Peace, TMOT.
There are not too many CEO with black skin, not to mention with dreds....However, our culture is more accepting of people with dreds, tattoos, and males with earring in their ears. I noticed you have one too..Some work places would find that unacceptable too.
natural hair is wonderful and i work with two doctors both with dreds and both have a very large practice i just dont think we have to change the way God made us to fit anyone's idea of what is acceptable take care
Dear sir, Please understand, based on the message I just heard , you are very relevant. If a magic wand could be waved and somehow make you the Father of all black youth, I'd bet 95% of their problems would instantly vanish. You are also disciplined, directional, and logical ; therefore, making you influential. Keep up the good work!
To keep this gentleman for the black race only in my humble opinion would be selfish. Christ like love should be shared by all. My point is this man could help children from any ethnic group moreover he could help all men and women if they could and would open their hearts to the message.
FAVd 5*![BTW,i have a personal Q re: boys .its sooo very important to me.i trust you judgment.I'll email A.M
~NOTHING can stop you from success except YOU! do crime, pay time-or dues.we'll all pay dues no matter what b/c thats just life!
i believe that God has written a prosperous destiny into every single able-bodied life.the price?! pray, forgive&move on and then focus [in prayer] toward the purpose we were meant to gladly fulfill.BLAME is an evil trap.the devil saying,"embrace sloth". peace
But officially there's equal treatment under the law and a reasonable expectation of equal treatment socially.
The majority, in this case, or cases like this, is always going to get the blame no matter who they are.
The spirit of 'I'm going to accomplish something; I'm going to work for it; I'll make my own destiny' has gone from society, among whites and blacks. The main thing standing in the way of anyone, usually, is themselves. Free your mind. G/B
No one has the right to blame someone else for their own misfortunes. As much as we love to blame people for unfortunate things that happen to us, deep in our minds it is always our fault. There is always something we could have avoided or something more we could have done. The only thing we can't ever change is when we die. But that's it. Our destinies are what we make them. We can choose to be what we are and it is our responsibility to rise above that. A choice, we all have one.
YES! the one that irks me th most is blaming one's parents.thats been the big one since 2000 began.most parents are people too, just trying to do the best they can.God knows there's no handbook. I'm so glad I realized this one
before my dad died [may he R.I.P] now, when my mom really needs me most and while raising my son.peace
No man is the Devil or Beast. Just as Blacks are not inferior to others races. If every could get on that page, the Human race could move on to do something wonderful.
News Flash, those who are on the same page, WE are already doing something wonderful.
There are still a few of Us who can't grasp that concept. I applaud you and the others who have.
The KKK mastered the blame game, now Blacks have picked it up and will not let it go. Even the Klan doesn't engage in White on White crime as do Blacks. Yeah, watch some fool say, "We do it because the White man made us by using the system against Us. They have serial killers."

Man, whew. I have been waiting for the hammer to fall. It fell today. Check out comments my channel. People are so confused about religion, hate and race relations. This is why I had to open this up so we can see ourselves clearly.
The brevity of life being as it is, One must take time not only to smell the coffee and wake the hell up, one must also take a moment to laugh. The pleasure was all mine. TMOT.
this geezer talks very well, listen and learn ,if you dont like the ball park, build your own dam ball park and make your own rules.I have never heard a black man talk like this he gets it he realy gets it.
But that's exactly right: If you don't like the ballpark, get your money and wisely, because it takes wisdom and responsibility, make your own ballpark; you live by your rules and learn a little about reality.
I myself have been poor all my life, very poor, but I don't let that keep me from thinking, and believing, that I can do it, and will do it: make my dreams come true.
And like this gentleman, my dreams include others, helping others, because that's important to me and part of my life.
I have nothing but love for you "u2hubbard" and I will pray that you and "HarryJohnson101" will seek to forgive those you feel oppress you and in addition seek to help those who are down trodden by finding ways to show them that they are in control of their own destinies and that by following Jesus, His truths will show them the light to the paths of righteousness. Peace and Love to you and yours.
According to Louis Farrakhan, Khalid Abdul Muhammad, Malcolm X and Elijah Muhammed the white man is always to blame and if any man of color thinks other wise he himself has been fooled by the white man and robbed of self image. Also, according to these men your felony does not mean anything because its the white mans rule that you broke. So my brother, you need to come back to your roots and don't be fooled by the white man!!! Remember the white man is the DEVIL!!!!
We will have to agree to disagree. No Man is the Devil! However, his (the Devil) spirit can influence all of us if we allow it. Peace be unto you and yours.
"You can blame a person for knocking you down but you can't blame that person if you refuse to get back up. . . . However much slave history taught us about the injustice and misery we as a people had suffered, it did not excuse us from assuming responsibility for ourselves and each other by altering its course."
I don't feel victim, I just do the math. Unlike you I graduated from college (matter of fact the first in my family to get a 4 year degree). I've made money in different ventures, I've never been in hand cuffs, I've traveled outside of the US many times. I'm struggling but I have a sound mind. I agree with you on many things. But if blame is one sided and not kept in perspective, that shows you hate one side more than the other. Ever heard of Willie Lynch?
Unlike me you say? Like I said earlier, you know not from whence I came. I am well educated, but that is hardly the point. The point is that OUR community suffers disproportionately in economics, education, broken homes, incarceration and the list goes on. Martin King cleared the path, it is WE who have allowed the weeds to take root this time. Peace be unto you.
I guess we will have to agree to disagree. In that statement lies the beauty of the country, Democracy. I am not a socialist and never will be. Dr. King's dream did not die when he was shot. The dream is very much alive in people like me. Others have just been silent for fear of speaking on the issues I address.
The worst thing a black man can do in this life is tell his own that we need to take responsibility for ourselves and stop blaming someone else. If Jesus were to take your stance, His life would have been meaningless as well because He would not have shown forgiveness to those who crucified him.
This is my favorite channel on Youtube now. Thanks I appreciate your words. It beats laughing at peoples arguments back and forth on here. I actually learn something here.
I am a white guy, and not some super liberal fag, but I like this guy. Some of the stuff he talks about, I have had to face in my life. I am sure not to the same degree he has had to and I make no attempt to say that. I would sooner vote for this guy as President rather than a figurehead.
Excellent. The pathway to success lies in education. This is the kind of insight that young children need to be instilled with. If you're not a teacher, I wish you were. More people like you need to be at the front of the classroom.
you sir are a role model for all young black youth. Black power has nothing to do with white people

Why is it that niggers always blame their misery on whites????????
Its because you dont have an education. Get one

Hey, if ya jump me, be gentle. I have thought this stuff through and I know it sounds shocking at first. You'll have to dig deep into your heart to see the bottom line of what I'm saying and then do the math from there.
Peace and love.
Mr88playmaker 2 years ago
Pour some of everybody's tax money back into the private sector. It's not like you'd see that money again yourself anyway. Fix a lot of problems with one stone.
Mr88playmaker 2 years ago
Before you all jump on me, think deep about what I'm saying. I am a conservative who had long held that "oh yeah, that was then and this is now. Pull yourself up by your boot straps". That's all good and well. I'm like that still. As I say, an inheritance is an inheritance. Do YOU "deserve" your inheritance or should the Gov. decide whether you do or not? Man, give black people the inheritance of their slave fathers and you'll see how carefully it will be invested because of what it represents.
Mr88playmaker 2 years ago
Nevertheless, that said, I believe it would be practical, and perfectly morally just, as well as great for the U.S. economy for today's generation of black Americans (rich or poor) to receive the rightful inheritance of their fathers as per Lincoln's plan.
NEVER deny a person's inheritance.
It is not a "hand out". Obama would have more than stimulated the economy and created jobs, and bank loans, and more, had he made good on the rightful inheritances of so many, that his own party denied.
Mr88playmaker 2 years ago
TMOT is right. The other thing is that DESPITE a person's color or humble economic beginnings, undisciplined people in general wind up facing the same problems. There are winners and losers of every color, shape and height. It's a very universal thing.
Mr88playmaker 2 years ago
The damage done from slavery can NEVER be repaired. That doesn't meant hat we cannot move forward. That doesn't meant hat we cannot become self-reliant and better than we are today as a Race. When we do, we must defend it and we cannot trust other "minorities" (or anyone else) to have our back.
NewKokujinOptions 2 years ago
@NewKokujinOptions Also, when it comes to playing by the rules, I believe that we as Blacks should stop playing their game and make our own. When you own your own business, or work for Black People (if those individual blacks accept it, of course) then you can have dreads. Of course, I don't advocate killing or stealing, but do advocate self-defense to make sure that nobody steals from you.
NewKokujinOptions 2 years ago
Right On! You are a very articulate and intelligent man. I am a white man and I hear ya, I know it is different but I take the earring out for a job interview just like one may have to lose the dreads if you want to get the job. We are all the same and there is a certain image of what is considered "desirable" for higher-level employment in this country. Keep the videos coming, it encourages important discussion.

hmm, ive heard what you have to say, so how do you explain the rules of growing up in an environment that doesnt support you in what ways could someone pacify the negative treatment of society towards you because of your skin colour , should we change our skin colour
gm78cc 2 years ago
No, can a tiger change it's stripes? I am proud of my color. We must learn to overcome the system by not playing it's game. For me what has worked is a belief in Christ and that if God is for me, no man can stand against me. That has worked for me.
tmotofga 2 years ago
we must learn to overcome the system by no playing it's game - you just said in the video that we have to play by the rules
gm78cc 2 years ago
I know what I said. Let me try and spell it out for you. If you know the system is designed to oppress you, then don't commit crime. Why?
Because they then have a legitimate reason under the law to prevent you from achieving your full potential. See my video,"I created a Job last Week".
If this is still unclear, I apologize for not being able to make my point.

Did you know that we are the hebrew israelites that the bible speaks of.The reason that we as a ppl find ourselves in negative situations, is because we are under curses that god put on us because of the iniquity of our forefathers.

In 1864 the black man was freed as a freeman under the 13th amendment, but the 14th turned us into subjects to the federal govt.
Being a subject is a slave ... I will not have any faith in America until they start talking about freedom for all in America.
IT'S A PLANTATION IN AMERICA ... WHITES, ASIANS, HISPANICS, AND BLACKS ARE ALL ENSLAVED TO THE MASTERS IN EVERY STATE CAPITAL OR DC ... NO FREEDOM!

bloozeman1969 2 years ago
I wish there were more intelligent, moral black people like this guy. Unfortunately, I just don't run into that often. Mostly it's just the rude, ignorant ones. The same is true with whites. But the ratio differs I would argue. Just like when you study prison population, drug abuse, academic testing and STD's and always find blacks with the poorest scores.

There's plenty of blame to go around.
MarkBH70 3 years ago
No one has the right to blame someone else for their own misfortunes. As much as we love to blame people for unfortunate things that happen to us, deep in our minds it is always our fault. There is always something we could have avoided or something more we could have done. The only thing we can't ever change is when we die. But that's it. Our destinies are what we make them. We can choose to be what we are and it is our responsibility to rise above that. A choice, we all have one.

No man is the Devil or Beast. Just as Blacks are not inferior to others races. If every could get on that page, the Human race could move on to do something wonderful.

Thanks for commenting.

Brother Malcolm Speaks:
"You can blame a person for knocking you down but you can't blame that person if you refuse to get back up. . . . However much slave history taught us about the injustice and misery we as a people had suffered, it did not excuse us from assuming responsibility for ourselves and each other by altering its course."

So sorry you fell victim. Try Jesus. He has cure for those who wilfully misuse you.
tmotofga 3 years ago
I don't feel victim, I just do the math. Unlike you I graduated from college (matter of fact the first in my family to get a 4 year degree). I've made money in different ventures, I've never been in hand cuffs, I've traveled outside of the US many times. I'm struggling but I have a sound mind. I agree with you on many things. But if blame is one sided and not kept in perspective, that shows you hate one side more than the other. Ever heard of Willie Lynch?
u2hubbard 3 years ago
Unlike me you say? Like I said earlier, you know not from whence I came. I am well educated, but that is hardly the point. The point is that OUR community suffers disproportionately in economics, education, broken homes, incarceration and the list goes on. Martin King cleared the path, it is WE who have allowed the weeds to take root this time. Peace be unto you.
tmotofga 3 years ago
So you kick us when were down thanks again!
samir3323 3 years ago
My Brother, I ain't kicking no one. I simply said, to hell with the past. I ain't letting no one stop me and you shouldn't either.
tmotofga 3 years ago
I guess we will have to agree to disagree. In that statement lies the beauty of the country, Democracy. I am not a socialist and never will be. Dr. King's dream did not die when he was shot. The dream is very much alive in people like me. Others have just been silent for fear of speaking on the issues I address.
tmotofga 3 years ago
The worst thing a black man can do in this life is tell his own that we need to take responsibility for ourselves and stop blaming someone else. If Jesus were to take your stance, His life would have been meaningless as well because He would not have shown forgiveness to those who crucified him.
