  • I remember it well! We used this to monitor fresh HF radio frequencies before changing the HF Radio shots (QSY). It was also good on a midnight shift for getting radio stations from "The States" on the skip! We also had a CV-89 FSK converter for bring up individual TTY signals to send to the monitor printer.

  • I bought a few R-390(nonA) sets to finally come up with One that is truly mint. One thing all of them had in common was that the owners did not load the gear springs properly when they removed and replaced the RF assembly. This radio can be so easily damaged in shipment (it is heavy and the side panels are weaker than a 390A so when the radio hits on its nose it buckles the side panels near te front panel and this bends both megacycle and kilocycle change shafts along with bending the frame)

  • The R390 is better than R390A, congratulations!!!

  • These Bad Boys are half mechanical/half electronic...Imagine what something this mechanically complex would cost to make today...No wonder they reputedly cost as much as a Cadillac back in the Fifties...

  • A work of 'Art' is correct. ;)

  • Wow! all those years of using the R390 and I'd never seen the insides work! Thanks for posting this.
