Using instrument racks gives you more flexibility when layering sounds, but bouncing the audio gives you different controls over the sound since you have it as an audio file. Both methods have their pros and cons, so its essential to know both.

Instead of recording the midi track into the audio track, i have a better solution. duplicate the midi track, freeze track, flatten.

hey mate, just to let you know i used your technique today, and it works great. But i used the simpler and used 4 different bass sounds with the same notes and sequence and then cut and pasted them together!!

I've been using Ableton for a year or so and I love it - My mate uses FruityLoops and makes pure fire beats. It's all about what suits you.

cool sounds, but this is this is really an inefficient way of layering. This guy may be a pro but this isn't the best advice for beginners. Disagree? Watch a few more tutorials on creating layered sounds. Or play around with Sampler for 10 minutes.

You don't need to record in real time. You can drag the midi part to an audio track & it will give you a recording

great tutorial! Have you tried using legato mode to switch between the alternate bass takes instead of doing it manually? Pretty sure you could do legato mode, map clip launches to your keyboard, and record it into arrangement, then just fix it / duplicate parts to finish.. might be quicker
