Sachin did not play express pace at test level. Almost all these bowlers are medium fast. I think Gavaskar, Vishwanath and Amarnath were more skilled than sachin in playing the genuine fast men. And it is a shame that Amarnath is all but forgotten.

When you subtract those runs and deliveries from his total, it becomes clear that his scoring rate against the other bowlers was pretty mediocre. That's the real magic of Tendulkar. His statistics look great until you analyze them.

I rate this Rest of the World innings against MCC as right up there with Sachins best knocks in ODIs. All the shots he played on the day had elegance and grace written all over them. It was simply exquisite.The game is also one of the most shining examples of what ODI cricket was all about, at the time. This was before the popcorn version of Twenty20 was even a whimsical idea in some brit's head. It was ironic that on that day the only person who could and did end up getting him out was Kumble.

Rubbish. Almost a third of his runs in that innings were from Aamir Sohail's left arm spin. Two thirds of that from one Sohail over.

In that context, mathematically, it becomes clear that he was somewhat circumspect against the quick bowlers.

In fact, until De Silva came in at number 4 and hit a few boundaries, the fast bowlers were fully in control of the match.
