Many people think this benchmark is pro Nvidia and is tweak against AMD. It is not. It just uses tessellation heavily which is where the industry is heading including OpenGL. Tessellation is revolutionary similar to AA. Unfortunately, ATi/AMD architecture is weak in this area. It is a hardware design flaw. A single GTX 460 will easily beat two Radeon 5770 in crossfire or even a 5850 in future games that uses Tessellation. This flaw will be fix when AMD release Barts and Cayman GPU.
@Nimerbushnaq It's a good low end card. It's compared with the GTS450/GTX550 Ti, some where inbetween on some games. Some games it gets better or worse FPS than the Nvidia Cards I mentioned.
Oh crude the 5770 is only almost twice as fast my 3850 that have for over two years in this benchmark. Of course i'm running at the same settings except dx10 and I have 2.0 version of the heaven benchmark. Note: I have a q9400 @ 3.4gh and 4gigs of ram running win7 pro 64bit. Score for benchmark 376
Yeah good point, but this engine hasn't been optimized for playable games yet. If someone was going to utilize this engine for game purposes, they would put A LOT of time into making it do what you mentioned. We wont see a game looking this good for a while only because we can only handle static images at this point. Now dual 5970's wouldn't have an issue running a Unigine based game :D
Indeed, 2 5970's. About the the optimizing thingy, the unigine engine is very well optimized for the GPU. using full GPU load, and no CPU at all. thats what i call a fully optimized GPU engine. put in AI, characters, etc... costs even more... but than the CPu will be used. it's just that they show how much tesselation requires. And atm no normal consumer product can Handle that. Dx11 will take a while for taking effect :P
Ok I get it. So with that out of the way, I am building a new budget rig. Its going to be a Core i5 Quad Core, but for the video card, should I get lets say, a GTX 260, or get the 5770 for DX11 support? Since DX11 is in its early stages, is it worth it at all at this point? The 260 preforms better, but I feel like I need DX11 support! How long do you think it will be before games start utilizing it enough to consider buying a dx11 ready card? Call of Pripyat didn't convince me!
At this point, nor this year,,, maybe only Crysis 2 may deliver the visuals u are waiting for. Call of Pripyat is not really using the tesselation. they say they are using it, but it has even less polygons/sec than Crysis Warhead. when u rly feel the need for DX11 5770 is not going to do the job. Nvidia is offering better Driver support, optimized software support for games, incl PhysX etc. configure ur rig, with GTX260 and wait half a year when Nvidia comes out with there line.
dude thanks a lot. That actually is really helpful! I've been bouncing back and fourth between the two for quite some time now but I think you won me over lol. You had a lot of good points there. Well, the 260 it is!
I have a lot of xp with systems, and ofcourse my own xp with ATi and Nvidia.
Support (drivers and software) is one of those very important things when u buy Hardware. (in my opinion). especially if I need to pay money for it. doesnt matter how much or how less.
When in march Nvidia introduces there high-end, in july or august they will introduce more cheaper versions of there cards, And in that time new games will better support DX11 in terms of visuals Good Luck, u wont regret it
Metro 2033 uses a lot of DX11 features including tessellation and the 5770 performs really well on it even with the game being more optimized for nVidia cards.
this card is awesome i didn't have much room in my case so i buy this card and its awesome take very little power but i must agree that its not the fastest... going to bye the 5970 next year :P
I'll buy a pair of those with the money I saved on the computer then. Even though it will be unecessary as this rig will play anything that will come out for the next 3 years on max.
The 5770 I suppose is future proof with DX11 and are pretty good at power saving on idle and don't have that much heat issues. You can go for the next generation or go back 2 generations as I think the GTX 260 only supports DX10 (not even 10.1!). Check out the benchmarks for the 5770 as they compare it to some Nvidia GPUs.
As long as the connections meet the requirement then it should be fine. Some use ATI certified mobos with Nvidia cards and the other way around but some have had problems using Sli with Crossfire-ready boards, though technically you shouldn't have any problems.
My 5770 was the bast card i ever owned, with a massive 1000mhz gpu 1300mhz memory over clock it preformed like a beast,

framerates below playable. below 30.
5770 is not strong enough to perform tesselation.
And remember, this unigine test is without, extra characters... non destructible environment, no AI, just the environment in a static image.
Now imagine to put this in a shooter or RPG or whatever. 5770 cannot handle any extra.
Dont underestimate the Power that is needed for DX11 !!!

also unless you payed 3 grand for it, which is a waste of mony cus you can get a desktop with the same specs for 1.5 to 2 grand now
and no laptop gpus support dx11...

So how many thousands of dollars did you waste on your laptop?

2, I have the money for it though.
That doesnt even compare to my $8000 Desktop:

2x250 gig ssd's in raid 0 / 2 terabyte Hdd

$8000 for that is rather pathetic.
i7 927: $950
5970 x2: $1300
12GB of 1866MHz: $720
2x 250GB SSD: $1200
1x 2TB HD: $200
Total: $4400 + mobo cost + disc drive cost + case cost + OS cost + aftermarket cooling for CPU cost
So it should total $5000, not $8000. Not that you have that setup anyway.
And the setup posted is good. Mine is an x4 955 3.2GHz, a 5770, 4GB of ddr3 1333MHz, a 500GB hard drive, and I plan to upgrade to 5770 xfire.

Also... I think something's wrong because while using 1 of my two Radeon 5770s with only 4x Anisotropy I get 30 fps as my score on 1600x900...
I have a core i5 and Radeon 5770 overclocked (both of them)
The Radeon 5770 is overclocked about 10%, and the Core i5 is at 3.4ghz.
