  • With all the broadcasts that Sony has been releasing lately, this would be a fabulous addition to that series....

  • I saw it all the Met too.........unforgettable

  • Bohm can get you trenble by his tense music!

  • Phantastic performance - I forgot to mention ... Great, thanks for posting!!!

  • Why do you start with "Tristan", II Act? I always think I opened the wrong page ...

  • Thank you for this wonderful post! This is indeed a "dream team" for this opera, one of my top 5 favorites! I've long been aware of this recording and am glad to hear the final scene, but I'd love to know how to get the whole opera!

  • Leonie Rysanek will own this role for ages to come....I'm happy to have been their at The Met for that unbelievable opening night.

  • @profgv Just saw the Salzburg production in which Anne Schwanewilms was supposed to "play" Rysanek during the 1955 recording - Yes, that was what the production was about: it was set in Vienna's Sofiensäle, where the recording was made!! Schwanwilms didnt even come close to what Rysanek's Kaiserin was about and sounded like a soubrette too! It depressed me. I heard Rysanek sing the role about 10 times - live, and one can say for those who heard her she will ALWAYS own it.

  • i LOVEE her in this, delicious stuff!

  • Tremendous!

  • No one will ever surpass Leonie Rysanek as the Empress. She OWNS that role.

  • vielen Dank! Thank you!

  • What a beautiful post! I saw Die Frau in the early 80s at the Met with Bohm conducting; it featured Ms. Rysanek and Birgit Nilson as the Dyer's Wife. Spectacular to say the least. This is one of the most dramatic finales in all opera!

Thanks for this journey to the past.

  • What a way to start summer!Thank you for posting,I feel like i am hurled forwads into it!

  • Thank you VERY much for sharing this with us!!!!! I remember listening to this broadcast when it first aired - at the time, I was only 8 years old!!!! Now, I am certainly old enough to REALLY appreciate this wonderful and magical work of Strauss, and this equally wonderful and magical performance of same. Yet another reminder of how good we really had it during the Mr. Bing's tenure as general manager of the Met......
