  • @jusdorange95 would you rather have the mind set of ay our ansestors 2 million yrs ago? i'm sorry that you cant accept your own personal mortality and you need your myths to substain yourself! again its called A DENIAL OF FATALISM! im sorry for you that you cant seperate mythology from reality but bottom line THATS JUST TOO BAD!!! THE GLOVES ARE OFF!!!

  • when we cant seperate mythology from reality then we have a problem there was no first couple in paradise no fall no tower of babel no universial flood all based in world mythology! since there was no fall then there is no need for redemption which buries the christian myth but dont feel bad ALL of mans religious beliefs are false in 1 sense ALL based on myths! remember its called a DENIAL OF FATALISM!

  • yes, congrats 1,000,000 views and more to come!!! What a lovely scene, song, movie, theater piece, and Broadway performance. Just love it!!!

  • Congrat. for 1.000.000 views

  • Nice song! Why people on here wanting to discuss whether jc myth or fact, virgin or not etc. Just appreciate the song.

  • stupid humans. this is a most profound moving sound ( voice and melody) ......and nothing to do with biblia,s talk

  • siempre me hace llorar

  • de las canciones màs hermosas que he escuchado.....

  • @italiangirl81 you have a right to believe in whatever you want freedom of freedom from if you want to believe the earth is flat you have that right even though you would be proven wrong for any myth to remain alive in a society it has to be consistent with that societys scientific thought the hebrew yoshua may have been a good man i dont deny that i just dont buy into the superstition and my studies in world mythology bear that out all of mans religious beliefs are based in world mythology

  • @ophis1946 my response to italiangirl81 and iknewb4udid also for you and no im not a sick bastard i just live in reality and acknowledge mythology as such where you live in the land of fairytales and cant handle reality!

  • @iknewb4udid my comments to italiangirl81 also address to you!

  • @italiangirl81 mary magdalena was a whore by most account and im sure the hebrew yoshua(j.c.) banged her on a regular basis just like the man banged other women as well both hebrew and non hebrew what did you think he was a virgin? wake up i know he wasnt a queer so he liked pussy and got laid on a regular basis just like his old man joseph hes real biological father not no mythological sky father that dont exsit!

  • @LVCrocky Instead of staying here to want to demonstrate that we're fools and dreamers in the land of fairytales and that Jesus was a beguiler, demonstrate the contrary, because your comment was not tangible for me. And i think that's not okay to speak in this way about a men who have changed the whole world. I don't care if Maria was a prostitute or not and i don't care if Jesus was her lover or not. I believe in him and in all he has done and no one in the world has the right to judge my faith

  • @LVCrocky hang on a minute. there is no reason to be agressive, just because you don't share the same belief, alright? This is not a matter of belief or disbelief, is just you being incredibly rude. The way you don't accept other people's beliefs is nothing but disgusting! What is wrong with you, seriously. Do you feel tough now that you dragged our religion in the mud? Do you? I feel really sorry for you then. You're nothing but a pathetic prick. Get a life.

  • ...simple. suck his dick and make him a Sandwich. what is there to know.

  • Always loved this ong

  • I love Lea Salonga's version of this song....... but this is also good...^^

  • Some of the best souls I know are crack whore prostitutes. They're not too superficial. i see why jesus would take to em...

  • @rommelwkoh its not negative to understand mythology for what it is because you cant thats your problem man invented"god'/myth to cope with the harsh realities of everyday life and to cope with ones own personal mortality (its called a denial of fatalism)

  • hey you guys stop all the negative comments just enjoy the music and believe in the supreme being . Don't be such an ignorant individual

  • @neverdoubt1 no its not impossible for a man to stay celibate very hard and however whether straight or queer look at all those pervert priests! the hebrew (yoshua) -j.c. however very unlikely he had a whore girlfriend and i would bet he banged many twats both hebrew and non hebrew!

  • Women "circumcised" Jesus to see if he was man or a woman who fucked dogs...

I know because I was there...

  • @herald8 do you really think the hebrew (j.c.) never got laid? i think thats nieve on your part like i said prev im sure he got plenty of pussy back in the day

  • @LVCrocky Do you really think it's impossible for a man to stay celibate?

  • @LVCrocky

You are one sick fuck, you know that bastard?

  • you know, i expected a lot of dislikes for this video, but im truly surprised about this feedback

anyways, it was a tradition to watch this movie during the easter week since i was little

    good song i love it

  • @sandkookies Its a great song. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks Dan Brown for revealing the truth that Jesus shagged Mary Maudlin and had kids with her. It makes this song so much more meaningful.

  • jc back in the day most likely got plenty of pussy just like his old man (joseph) not a mythological sky father that dont exsist the invention of man!

  • @LVCrocky Um even if there wasn't a God, that doesn't mean Jesus couldn't have taken a vow of chastity. People do it all the time as a show of their sacrifice to a belief.

  • that ackward moment when your singing "I dont know how to love him" and you look into a picture frame to see yourself singing, and its a picture of Jesus, and you remember what the songs about and it just becomes weird.

  • REALMENTE QUIEN SABE COMO AMARLO?

  • This song brings tears to my eyes. I understand why Mary Magdalene loved Jesus.

  • This singer was made for this song, a perfect match! Conveys such a beautiful Love, a meeting with Jesus for the 1st time. A true Love, she, Mary Magdalene could never find with other men. This song touches my heart and soul, superb!

  • Jesus it was a man...Then love it's natural.... I see this movie for the first time in Luanda - Angola. Good Times

  • "I AM THE WAY AND THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE. NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME." - JESUS (JOHN 14:6 NIV)

  • luv this song (and Magdalene image)

  • Mary Magdalene was maligned by one particular Pope's interpretation ; did she have her own gospel ? ; Like the Thomas one less known ,this is a great song nevertheless. The female vocal or song from the show and film 'Godspell' called 'By my side' is also very touching.

  • I was on our czech version of this musical.. I was absolutely amazed! No matter what language, this musical has something enchanting. :))

  • amazing....

  • Jesus lover her soul. The body is just an illusion. he knew this. He taught her worth. He gave her unconditional love. The love we have from God above. He was just a man. But so much more. Sometimes it takes some love, the love that touches a soul for a moment, to change us. This is just one lesson to learn. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays friends.

  • @bigdanbear Very well put, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

  • Me fascina esta canción, crea un ambiente de paz que hoy es difícil de encontrar en el mundo, excepto cuando estas compenetrado con DIOS

  • @jeantrietley:

    Thank you very much.

I wish you and your family merry christmas and a happy new year 2012!

  • BEAUTY

  • Yvonne Ellimen owns this song. Period. Is there another song any singer would rather own??

  • I toodly love that song! From Jesus Christ Superstar!

  • I miss the 70's & 80's the BEST decades of the 20 th century..........

  • beauty and Truth to behold

  • poesia

  • I wonder how Jesus didn't wake up after all the singing...

  • @talomen Just being polite, lol.

  • God!...I love this woman.

  • ... I think that Maria Magdalena loves Jesus because he was the first man who loved her soul and not her body like the mans before.. he respected her... it was sure a great and purely kind of love.

  • @ItalianGirl81 Maybe, but there's NO Biblical or Gospel evidence that Maria Magdalena was a prostitute. That was an invention of the Council of Nicea. I doubt that it's true.

  • @Iknewb4udid

    Maybe you're right...who knows.

  • @ItalianGirl81 Yes you said that perfectly

  • @ItalianGirl81 Mary Magdalena being a prostitute was an invention of the Council of Nicea. There is NO account in scripture of that.

  • @Iknewb4udid

    Maybe you're right... who knows.

  • Used to love this song in my teenager years :-) just beautiful.

  • i love yvonne's elliman's version of this :D

  • НЕ ЗНАЮ. НУ СЛУШАТЬ ЭТУ МУЗЫКУ-ПРОСТО ТАК СПОКОЙНО НЕ ВОЗМОЖНО.

  • Calm down people. The movies does not have to conform with the personal beliefs of everyone. It is just supposed to be good.

  • @kkorn1000 crap I meant to vote up awseome point!!!

  • I love God. Go to

    GodisG.com

    and share your love

  • "This isn't faithful to scripture!!!"

Don't we already have that movie? Like, a lot of them?

  • this movie is a joke, no christian would really like this,

  • Comment removed

  • @kir3txsbcglobalnet . . .i attend a catholic hs. my brother said this movie was made by ppl who were mad at the roman catholic .. there isnt a resurrection why???judas revives???? many wrong things in this movie!!!!!!!

  • @Kardacar I'm Christian. I actually just finished a production this past weekend, I played Simon the Zealot and Peter. There are a few changes I agree. There isn't a resurrection because they wanted to focus solely on the conflicts between Jesus and Judas which weren't directly mentioned in the bible; it's considered a traditional passion play. The plot of the musical is how Judas betrayed his best friend and the consequences that he faced, which led to his death.

  • @JAyala7293 i dont know about your play, but this "movie" is stated as a christian gospel. But it misquotes things and is missing evidence. which by the church is not catholic or christian,

  • This song is fantastic. I'll always love it!!!

  • Great Song...Yes they loved each other! But not in the 'Dan Brown' sense...it was pure...

  • @LukasJudah10 Hai detto una grande verità

  • ben fatto

  • Grate,GRATE MUSIC!!!But the lyrics are terrible for any Christian! They are misrepresenting the essence of the greatest spiritual miracle, witch happened with Marry Magdalene, compliant changing and cleansing ! misrepresenting that pure love in God , not in "just a man" pity for such a masterpiece!

  • @renatorenato75 When she sings that he's "just a man", that's what she's trying to convince herself to not fall in love with him, but she has. Don't take it so seriously, it's just a musical, it's not an accurate account of the last days of Jesus. If you see it as that, you'll enjoy the musical more.

  • degenerics!

  • Isn"t this the song we all feel dep inside? How do we relate to Him????

  • This song just melts my heart, I adore it.

  • fantastika

  • I can hear this song forever, just brilliant!

  • FABULOSA PELI! Adoro más a Jesus. Es más de carne, es más alcanzable, más sencillo, más ideal, Creo que ahora es BUENO y me hace muy bien. GLORIA A JESUS, Amo sus debilidades, sus fortalezas..... Now, I know how to love him.

    JUNA, From Bolivia

  • This song (and others in the musical) show the confusion those closest to Jesus felt when they faced the decision to give up EVERYTHING to follow his message - to throw away their world view. It must have been scary. That's why Mary comparing Jesus to other men she's known just doesn't work. Think also of Judas in Too Much Heaven On Their Minds trying to be so REASONABLE - wouldn't most of us have had the same reaction?. Works for atheists, too - life has many such forks in the road.

  • The Lord delivered me from over 20 yrs of heroin addiction. Praise His name!!

  • @barneyronnie Amen...!

JesusChrist's Grace and Peace be with you.

  • @barneyronnie God bless you brother! :)

  • Okay for any christians that aren't jerks with a holier than thou attitude I'm sorry for how rude Im about to be but it needs to be said. You fucking dickheads need to stop treating your religion as fact it isnt. You BELIEVE in God and you BELIEVE that jesus was his son and you BELIEVE that the events in the bible are true. It cannot be proven because it happened 2011 years ago. So shut the mutherfuck up and quit being cunts. again sorry to those who dont apply here.

  • what ever the context - this is a beutiful song that is relevant now!!!

  • @KikyoChanXD I am to. I used to watch this with my mom. && when she almost dies of cancer (twice) watching it was one of the only things that made me feel better. Now I sing everythings alright to put my baby daughter to sleep. The movie and music have a lot of meaning to me and I don't believe in any God.

  • @NewoIkkin93

I believe she is expressing a realization & fear that Jesus is a love that can not be matched in her past life and she is afraid of what Jesus has done to change her life which was so cool and prone to pleasures of the flesh but this new love of hers is a Soul changing love. Yet she can not understand why He does not seem to be a man rhat enjoys her physicalcality in the flesh . She even expresses a fear that she could bring Him down by getting him to respond to her in the flesh.

  • @DonnieTHORMacLEOD yes thats true BUT she's singing about him as a man. Not the son of God. She even say's "he's just a man" It's a love song. Not a religious song. . && question!?!?! Is this how Judas is portrayed in the bible or do they give no real reason why he betrayed jesus? From this movie I see it as him only betraying him because he thoght that the people were more intrested as jesus as a "superstar" than as a messiah and wanted it to stop. and he only took the money for the poor.

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • I love judas reprise of the song its a chilling echo of marys love..

  • @KikyoChanXD >> Understand that such music would captivate anyone including an atheist since appreciation for good music knows no Religious boundaries. However for a devout Christian such as myself I know exactly what Mary is expressing. How can we ever understand the fullness of love He gave us & return it in kind ,with all the human faults we carry in our own Souls.??? I have loved this music ever since I first heard it.. God is with me when I hear this rendition.

  • @DonnieTHORMacLEOD the movie and other songs from it yes but this song she's not singing about God she's singing about the fact that she's in love with Jesus.

  • I just saw Yvonne perform this song at The Big E, a big regional Fair. Breathless is the only way to describe the way she sang this song. I have never seen a Big E audience outside so captured. It was incredible.

  • Brilliant!

  • Yvonne Elliman is perfect in this song - one of the best performances of all time in my 57 years book.

  • I think webber acomplished the most human interpretation of jesus. This is what made me feel the most for that man until now. And i'm not even christian :D

  • 23 people don't know a good thing when they see and hear it.

  • I consider muself a christian, denomination from birth RC...whatever; this song is just BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • @KikyoChanXD

    I hear you.

As an atheist myself...there's nothing in the message in Jesus that ISNT applicable to all of mankind.

  • @KikyoChanXD WTF

  • Okay.... to those who are hung up on religion..

The message of Jesus Christ is for ALL of us.

The message he teaches is obvious.

  • Wisdom obvious to a young child is not always obvious to the most intelligent of men.

  • @KikyoChanXD Well, then you're a Pagan.

  • where could i find the lyrics to this song? if there is any?

  • @KikyoChanXD I never saw a Christian with lot of thumbs up in an atheist video. But you have a lot of thumbs up here.

  • @KikyoChanXD Try a flea bath first, then put on your collar, and rememeber most states have leash laws whenever you go out make sure you are wearing yours!

  • @KikyoChanXD yawn!!!!zZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • @KikyoChanXD I don't mean to raise any controversy, but being an Atheist Pagan is impossible. I know because I used to be an Atheist, and now I'm a full-fledged Pagan. Atheists don't worship or believe in any form of spiritual power. They are often nihilists, but they believe solely in the laws of science.

Pagans, however, do believe in a Mother Earth figure; followers of Gaia believe that the Earth is a self-regulating organism, but they also believe in spirits and souls.

    You're an atheist.

  • Is she a native american? She looks like a squaw.

  • @pingtran That is American..Yvonne Elliman from Hawaii who started out doing the stage show of this in London, sang on the original cast album..and was Eric Clapton's back up singer with his band in the 70's. Yvonneis one of my favorite artists & sand on the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack.."If I Don't Have You". Very talented songstress!

  • @pingtran She is Hawaiian of Chinese or Japanese descent.

  • @KikyoChanXD

"I'm an Atheistic Pagan" to be such a thing would mean you actively worship some sort of pagan gods, I dont think that is what you do, Westboro church is NOT a Christian church by any definition.

This song is wonderfully executed, It brings into contrast the way man thinks VS how God is, She is convinced that she knows love inside and out, Yet here comes Jesus and presents Love a whole new way, She doesn't know how to Cope with it, Love with no carnal intent? Jesus loves us

  • STUNNING VOICE 1000 % CLASS !

  • i am the son of 666 and everyone just have lots of sex and drugs!!!!

  • Jesus was wise teacher. I have fait on him. Yovonne Elimans way to sing this beautifull piece tells sentiviness. Fait is like that. Humans are often cruel in their actions. Human leaders dont think about individual suffering. We repeat propaganda and we accuse the others. We like to be gods ourselves but we are too young and too stupid. You never have to believe. Its your choise.

  • Poor magdalene...

  • @KikyoChanXD That's right.......just cause you like some of other ppl.'s work doesn't mean you have to believe in it....

  • debate time which is more emotional, when mary sings the first verse, or when judas sings it later?

  • So amazing.. I have always loved this song, and her delivery is FANTASTIC.. Thank you for posting...

  • @bizakis9 ditto!

  • Sort of simple...She has been a prostitute for a long time and only knew what she "thought" was love (sexual) and then a man comes into her life that showed her , not only forgiveness of her sins (past, present & future) but that her life has value (apart from the prostitution) overwhelming passionate love that only the Creator could give to His creations.Q: Jesus' death on the cross , the ultimate sacrifice? A: Yes, the ONLY way to bring man back to God.

  • @NewEnglandSquatch could be more complicated. in early Christianity (the Gnostics and other groups) Mary was seen as the follower of Jesus most advanced. In the Gnostic Book of Thomas and "Book of Mary Magdalene", there is evidence that Jesus confided certain secrets teachings (meditation? etc?) with Mary only. There is evidence that other apostles were jealous of her and branded her a whore. We are not certain who she really is (much of the Gnostic gospels are missing, unreadable). love to all!

  • The concept of Jesus is so impossibley beautiful and to add to it the female wonder of Mary Magdalene and you have something approaching perfection. Which it why it remains just a figment or our imaginations. I believe in nothing but yearn for much.

  • @KikyoChanXD Again, this movie has little to do with Jesus -- the fundies have loathed it from the beginning. And why did they have to follow after the medieval delusion that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute? Although, not in scripture, I've argued it with fundies to no avail. Why does this belief persist, and what it says about the regard of women by these true believers.

  • Me conmueve tanto que me hace saltar las lagrimas siempre! que sentimiento y que voz tan dulce

  • This must be the best "SONG"of youtube since its inception

  • This song always brings a tear to the eye so beautifull

  • Why are there so many Marys in the bible? Because Mary is actually a translation of the word Lady. Do you really think people in Israel in those days had our European names like Paul and Peter etc...Ah, no. Mary Magdelene was actually a powerful person. The daughter of what we today would call aristocrats. So, because she was strong willed and had an opinion (did you know she wrote a Gospel?) she was, of course, turned into a whore as all strong-willed women were back then.

  • the melody for this song is almost note by note completely ripped off from Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor- 2nd movement. that's not very noble.

  • @careinn10

    And your point is....?

O wait I get it. As this is somewhat derivative of some other piece of art then this is a piece of shit.

Sorry son but ALL art ,including what you're holding out as a holy chalice, 8s built upon what's be gone before.

Unless you're willing to claim scales and chords of western music we're created by Mendelson then you should let it go.

  • @JonBradinVic have you heard the mendelssohn second movement? it aligns PERFECTLY to the melody of this song. it's practically a diminutive form of plagiarism in the world of composition. don't make such a broad assumption, a fallacy, out of a simple comment so quickly. I wasn't noting anything other than the blatant lack of originality. Don't get your feathers all ruffled- I do love some of Weber's songs. This one just makes me angry-faking genius when all you're doing is taking someone's work?

  • Yvonne's performance of this is the best. Bar none.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow. Powerful.

  • How the hell can this have only 750K views and Sara Brightman's is over 1.6 million views?

  • Webber is always right on with his performers. The story is she was singing in some crappy bar in London when Rice and Webber walked in and heard her singing. They walked up and asked if she wanted to sing in a movie.. I heard the same thing with Michael Crawford as the 'Phantom'. Webber saw him on BBC TV and called him to star in the broadway show. Crawford said "I'm not a singer, I'm a comedian". . Webber reportedly said "Dont worry, we'll teach you how to sing".. LoL

  • From what I realize, Mary Magdalene's love for Jesus was a love so pure, from a loving Savior to a pardoned soul... bestowing grace, when no one but Him would give salvation without recompense. Imagine a young woman, condemned by the very men who used her body and mind... ready to stone her to death so that these men may rid themselves of the guilt of having had a part of her sin. From her eyes, now see the Jesus who asked from her nothing but to "go and sin no more." Who would not love Him?

  • actually, if jesus was married, and more important with MARY MAGDALENE; woudnt it reinforce the message of LOVE and ACCEPTATION he preached?

The priest's chastity vow was imposed at the middle age to a change to control pirests to abuse of their power over the people to seduce young woman and go out of control. or thats what I've heard ^^u

    PD: great song, really touching

  • @Danimagick I think it wouldn't be universal love then. But for the rest no big disagree.

  • Bellissimo

  • This has to be Andrew Lloyd Weber's best production, in my humble opinion.

  • @KikyoChanXD You don't have to be Christian to appreciate the music from this show. A matter of fact it was consider a very controversial show in it's day. As late as 1978 when my high school alma mater music class put on a production of the show it was met boycotts and pickets.

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs i´ve ever heard. Ivonne Elliman sings whit her heart and touchs mine every time i listen to this song.

  • ones that are half way in their faith, or have belief in their savior but sometimes fall short, should for sure be clarified after a dose of this wholesome expression from Yvonne Elliman. She conveys it well for Christ.

  • her passion, love and hope is so obvious in her voice and expression no one will ever do this song justice but yvonne.

  • Jesus Christ Superstar, film that acclaimed world's appeal just as original "Romeo and Juliet" did. Yvonne Elliman's perfection in artistic expression I dare to say could have made her a strong role for Juliet if it weren't for Olivia Hussey . In Jesus Christ Superstar film, prior to this moment where there was commotion and tension. But Yvonne in keeping with Mary's role renders in all of us who listens, a refreshed feeling from her musical no one else could have done.

  • Whenever I have feelings for someone and I feel confused, I always listen to this song... and it sort of makes everything clear for me. I'm a Protestant and I never found the whole Jesus Christ Superstar blasphemous :) If you treat it as the art form it is it's actually fun entertainment

  • Who in the world would dislike this? Yvonne Elliman rules.

  • The singer is Yvonne Elliman and she is Hawaiian.

  • This musical is worse than trivial; I think anyone with taste and discrimination would be capable of realizing that this music trivializes one of the most extraordinary stories in history. Compare the trivial, banal, sentimental music of this score with, say, Bach's St Matthew or Wagner's Parsifal. Webber makes me ashamed to be British.

  • @bayreuth79

Awww..come on it's theater. A combination of singing, acting and choreography where all three are limited by

having to work WITH each other.

I personally think the movie version got the balance right.

If you don't like it then, form what you posted, it sounds like you don't like this particular art form rather than the material.

That's your choice. For me, an atheist, this is one of the few pieces that makes me question my disbelief and (as Fox Mulder said) wants to believe.

  • @bayreuth79 You could be right there, but I always thought of this as the musical that changed musical theatre from South Pacific into Les Mis. To that end alone, it stands up as a great piece of work.

  • By far the best musical ever made!

  • As I said before this is a great song from a great musical...nothing more. I have to laugh at all these deep theological comments over this video? Don't some of you have better things to do like prepare for the Rapture Redux in October??
