  • pusssies ..accidents are always going to happen ...so lets say they take fightin out ..then what so much anger will be built up that players will start hittin from behind and usin their sticks....fightin is there so that they get there anger out and guys fight at there own risk its up to them to take the helmet off so why take it out ...ask any realy fighter they well say they dont even think twice about hittin there head on the ice ..and bro no helmets in hockey??? yeah maybe back in the 60;s

  • The issue(especially as it relates to the AHL where virtually ALL of the players where one)is the Shield...Whats the point of a boxing match where half the face is guarded by a plexiglass Cover???

So in the Case of Klotz, he and his fellow combatant Kevin Westgarth each removed the helmet because of the Shield, the Head gear in and of itself was incidental!

  • i think people should stop trying to protect people from themselves these are grown men who decide to fight and ya people will get hurt sometimes thats jsut how it is everywhere people have been getting hurt since the beggining of time and people will continue to get hurt thats what used to make this game so attractive you used to have to be tough to play hockey now we just have too many band-aids playing these soft players and fans gotta go

  • i agree they should be kept on... just in case. But, its inaccurate to say that they kept helmets on "in the old days", because "in the old days" there were no helmets, and good old hockey players would still drop the mits and scrap.

Like i said i think helmet should be kept on, but he didn't make a real valid point.

  • Steve are you using a new camera?

  • I did for this one. It's a lot nicer, that's for sure. I'll use it every now and then ,but in general, the webcam one is so much easier for me.

  • You should look into gettng a FlipMinoHD...they're pretty cool, and you can't go wrong on a $220 HD Camcorder. Plus its small enough you can bring it with you for the marlies interviews.

  • You have asked a good question. You have received a politically correct answer.

  • The helmet issue has a pretty obvious issue, you're wearing one for a reason. I bet you $100 bucks Mr. Gilbert here is all for fighting in the NHL, as is 90% of those who watch it and play it and those not over-exploiting the poor guy who died. His own father completely supports fighting as well. There's a lot more seriously issues like the rock-hard elbow and shoulder pads knocking people out first.

  • pretty obvious answer*

  • well fights are Ushally volentary, so if a players wants to take of his helmet and take that risk so be it, fighting is diferent from a dirty hit seeing as in how Patrice bergeron was looking to get hit from behind. but if your helmet comes off in a fight the refs should break it up rite away

  • The description says it's "part" of your post-game audio, so are you going to include the rest in your other video? Or is this all that Gilbert said - because he's really just commenting on the helmets and not the fighting itself.

  • Usually it is only the players with visors that are taking their helmets off before a fight.

  • isn't it the "only 5 minute major penalty" that makes guys even more tempted to drop their gloves? if fighting is not seriously punished...there will always be guys doing it..even though fighting is condemmed every time a player gets seriously hurt

  • malkin and ovechkin r freinds?

  • lol no not no more

  • I agree, why not make helmets mandatory when in a scrap?

But i do not agree on phasing it out completely. Whether you like it or not, it HAS become part of the game, and players know the risks they are taking when they drop their mits.

If you take out fighting because people are getting seriously hurt, then you should take out hitting to. a hard open ice it, or drilling someone into the boards can hurt someone just as much as a punch in the face. Just as many or more people are hurt with hits

  • Clean hits are different from dirty hits and fighting.

  • You're absolutely right. That was the #1 criticism of my article, as if I think (for example) Steve Downie's hit on McCammond was great. Dirty hits, fighting without helmets - these things need to have consequences in terms of disciplinary action, not in terms of being carried off on a stretcher.

  • They already do have disciplinary action, but the 'discipline' part of it is a complete joke. Grabovski got suspended for the same amount of games as kostopolus when he hit van ryn, for pushing himself away from a ref

The threat of getting the pulp beat out of you is usually by most standards, scarier than what colin cambell will do about it, which is usually next to nothing.

  • Yeah thats true, but look at all of Scott Stevens hits. They were all clean, but most of them ended up in a player getting a concussion, which is usually what happends when someone is hurt in a fight.

  • That's tough cookies, I'm sorry to say. Clean hits are a part of hockey. Injuries happen with that. Fighting isn't a part of hockey, though.

  • That's where your completely wrong. It IS a part of hockey, almost all of the players, gm's and coaches say it is. The game was meant to police itself, and thats why fighting is only a 5 minute penalty. Players know well the risks they are taking when they drop their gloves. Just the same as they know that when they're skating down the middle of the ice with their head down, they're eventually gonna get nailed.

  • Hits with a guy with his head down are different from headshots, checks from behind, jumping hits.

And if hockey players have this right to police themselves, why can't everybody?

  • Thats irrelevant, you can still get seriously injured. The issue here is the safety of the players, not the manner they are hurt in. Either way, your no better off. Hockey players police themselves when they are PLAYING HOCKEY, and only in certain ways and situations. If two players agree to fight, then its 5 minutes for each of them, theyre both subjected to the same penalty. Off of the ice, they are subjected to laws just the same as anyone else, just like when they are on the ice.

  • Here is a point I would like to make about Visors in fights. the Itech FX50 Shield Combo which is a the half steel cage with a Visor in the middle. This piece is interesting as it has a push button release mechanism so the visor can be removed in seconds, Something Itech might want to retro-fit to new helmets

  • I think that if the guy takes his helmet off in a fight they should stop it right their, and if they take it off before they drop the mitts, too bad..

  • 0:30 you copied sxephil!!! anyway, i agree with him. especially after seeing what happened to that phantoms guy

  • All players should be required to actually tighten the chin strap on their helmets, then we don't have incidents where they freakishly fall off on a good, clean check and they hit their head anyways. It would also help prevent Jakob Markstrom from ever pulling his gold medal game stunts again.

  • I think that fighting should be restricted to scuffles with both gloves and helmets on. It's a good compromise between removing fighting, and letting people massacre each other.

  • While I want to phase fighting out as well, and think helmets should be mandatory in fighting, gloves would make matters worse. They're tough, hard, pieces of equipmet; not oven mits. But that's another debate.

  • And in the rare occurance of a goalie fight, blockers are even worse.

  • Can you imagine goalies fighting with their helmets still on? Now that would hurt some knuckles..

  • I agree helmets should stay on, just incase someone falls, which happens often in a fight. Guys with visors shouldn't fight though.

  • The visor point is key.

  • a helmet will save ur life at anytime even wen u dont expect it thts why u should be smart n wear it wen u fight

  • Make the ice softer lol

  • he made a good point..

  • Good Points.

  • Interesting. obviously fighting without a helmet isn't a good idea.
