Bob Dylan is a fantastic writer tho his singing is sub par. Bob wrote many amazing songs. But cash, his voice is so unique and deep. Love johnny and all of his work, his life story is amazing and all the shit he went through. And the story between him and June is very touching and amazing as well. Johnny is one of the best musicians of all time. Same goes for Dylan as well
@mihsathe Hardly any Bob Dylan versions of anything are available on YouTube, all you get is people doing covers of his stuff, either on stage properly like in this video, or in their bedrooms. It's so annoying.
@melfriend7 NO! It was written by the one and only fantasticly amazing poetic genius that is Bob Dylan. Stupid Turtles. Taking credit for the work of the best lyricist of all time...
I have to say I think they've turned it into a jingle and robbed the song of it's emotional pain and frustration which Dylan charged it with. But that's just my opinion.
The best singer(s) ever. You can be the most bleeding heart liberal or the most hardcore conservative out there with any sort of musical taste and you will still find something to love about johnny cash.
He knew he loved June from the monent he saw her and wouldn't let her got away and he never did let her get away. Johnny spoke to the common man, he made you feel like he was your friend. I wish I had know him, to be able talk to him or even sit and play guitar with truely one of country brightest and best.
They fought for each other, they loved each other and they died for each other, that my friends is true love
June is the QUEEN of my heart 'cause she saved Johnny's life - she definitely rescued his life - and gave us herewith so much unforgettable songs - I'm so grateful !
I think the exact words in the lyrics are things Johnny were worried for. That he wouldn't be able to give her what she deserved. But thank god that he didn't give up. :)
@manhattanishappening Sorry everyone likes diferent things. Bob Dyan could write a decent song(well in the 60's) but his voice was never equal to Johnny Cash's. As for performers if good ole Bob tours till he's 100 he never have Johnny & June's talent and magic.
@TheHughLundy Bob Dylan is a poet. From a musical standpoint, he can't sing for his life, i'll give you that. Yet there's something about his voice that resonates when I hear those early 60's heartbreaking ballads like "It Ain't me babe." The song seems like its meant to be sung in a melancholy manner, which this lacks. Its just not a great cover.
But of course, these two certainly have chemistry that will remain unsurpassed, theres no denying that.
@TheHughLundy Thanks I certainly agree with you Bob Dyan's early 60's work is the work of a poet.Only one of very few song writers I would put into this class(Leonard Cochen, Lou Reed & Elvis Costello). Sorry but for me anyway Johnny Cashs And Charlotte Gainsbourghs versions are sadder & ring more true. Still it would be awfu if everyone liked the same thing.
@manhattanishappening It's the fast tempo and Johnny Cash doesn't convey a lot of feeling in this one. I think i heard another version by him where he does it much better.
@username1782 Well, there aren't many artists who DO give credit before singing. They get permission from the original writer/singer and they take it from there. Bob Dylan was not responsible for the way they made this song their very own, they did that themselves.
Too many songs are just imitations of an original song. The really good covers are the ones that take a song and make it into something completely different. It's not cheap imitation, it's taking something that was already there and turning it into something new. That's art.
No offense to a great musician, but Johnny Cash fucking massacred this song. He just turned it into a fucking sing along. Not to mention, he ruined the build up of the "someone to open each and every door/someone to die for you and more/etc." by speeding it up so much.
Goddamn Johnny, you really fucked up something great here.
And I think Bob's original version is a high-pitched hell. We all have different opinions... Anyway, this is Johnny's style. Many of us like it that way, as many prefer the original version. Whatever, both Bob and Johnny were good friends and great musicians as well.

@fluence51 Regardless, that was the vision Dylan had when he wrote the song. I'm quite certain he didn't want it turned into another happy fucking jig like the rest of Cash's shit.
