havent been on a horse in years but watching ms westfall perform without saddle and bridle .............. wow ! fan for life ! nobodys has ever done this ! wow . very inspirational .all you kids out there , take notice of what you can accomplish in our short time on earth . its always the simple things that make the biggest impacts to our lives . crazy ,isnt it !
Her about being the first woman breaking a horse in 3 hours, there was a dedication to this on horseland (canadian TV show) YOU GO GIRL!!!! <3 YA STACY AND ROX
oh get over it- so can a lot of people- but thats not the point. it was the emotion and feeling and utter bond between horse and rider that so many people were fasinated by.
I love watching Stacy ride. She is such an amazing rider!!!! I cry everytime I watch the ride she did for her father after he passed away. I would be happy if I was HALF the rider she is :)
@equinechick569, I agree, I have watched the 2006 video probably over 100x & still cry, what a beautiful performance! I love Stacy & love 2 watch her ride, she's such a beautiful woman inside & out! & I'm sure it has alot 2 do w/ how well she bonds w/ the horse's she trains & rides in competitions & shows, they can sense her calmness & love, a lot of people dont give horse's enough credit, they are very smart & intuitive! Stacy's a breath of fresh air! My dream, 2 see her in person one day!
she's so amazing :) i can ride (canter and everything) my gelding with no bridle or saddle too, but she's 20x better than me! my horse definitely isn't a reiner!
i ride horses! and i LOVE stacy westfall! i look up to her alot! and i can walk, trot, canter, and gallop without a saddle(bareback) but i cant really ride brideless yet,im still working with my paint on that! :D
i lov her!!!! if i could pull off even half of that with my reinner i would be more than happy. just haveing that kinda relationship with the horse is amazing
I don't want to take away from stacy because she is great, but she isnt the first one to do this. The native american indians never used saddles eather.
@phelone3560 that's not what she meant- She is the first woman to enter and win the 'Road to the Horse' competition. It's a competition for Natural Horsemanship trainers in which they take a completely unbroke horse and train it for three hours over three days. At the end of the three days, they are expected to ride an obstacle course.
This brought me to tears. I love that song. Means a lot to me also. So, I can completely relate with her. I can relate also with dogs like she can with horses. Very inspirational story. :)
Roxy iss the best horse ever the first time i rode her was the 1st time i rode bareback! im goin to visit her again in 2 weeks! shes my Auntt! Love your Aunt stacy!
People have so few examples of what THEY can do if they watch and listen and INVOLVE themselves with life. This feels so far removed from classical conditioning training where you treat animals and people like computer input/output units and you the programmer, distant and removed. It looks like being in relationship and working it for mutual benefits.
it's amazing that Ellen invited you to show the world into a sport that few people who don't ride understand. Sometimes when i come back from a show to school it seems like no one gets the blood sweat and tears horsemen and women of all disciplines go through to strive to ride at the highest level. I'm glad they saw the show world through your eyes Stacy. Way to Represent!! :)

You think Stacey is Good?(she is but only in a American way sorry), we are not that good on horseback as a rule, Bring up the Video for "Merlin the bullfighting horse", that is communication and riding. I could not do what Stacey does in a hundred years. but reining is so 6th grade compared to Dressage and bullfighting horses. start them at 7 years and train them till they are 14-15 years. Not babies after a year of training.
Reining is called the dressage of the western world, YES Merlin is an absolutely amazing horse, well trained, communication between horse and rider at its best... but every reining maneuver takes precise communication and understanding between horse and rider just as dressage does. It is sad that horses here are started and shown so young only to be retired by 7 or 8 years of age, but that is the way it is here, probably due to the tremedous thoroughbred racing influence America has endured.
What does her sexual preference have to do with anything? I didnt see Leno/Oprah/ or any straight person asking her to come on her show? Grow up a little
I watched one of her clinics on "responsiveness through subtle aids" at the Mane Event in Red Deer (April 2008). She is amazing, any horse woman or man shoudl aspire to have that much trust with their horse. And to think people spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to get fancy imported horses that couldn't respond like that.
Stacy & Roxy have an amazing relationship & alot of trust in each other. Anyone who has been around horses can appreciate what she does with this animal - not just on your own farm & in familiar surroundings, Stormhorse23, but in arenas with a live audience (and anyone who has ridden in these conditions knows you never know what a spectator will do that may spook your horse.) And for her to take Roxy to a TV studio without even a halter & lead is a feat in itself.

um. all four of my horses can do that. bond enough and they will come to you when they are scared and will follow you anywhere. i go to barns everywhere and ride like that.
ok stormhorse23 - get a video of your reining horse being ridden without tack, doing a reining pattern with the spins, lead changes, rollbacks, sliding stops & backs in front of a crowd. I'm sure lots of riders would like to see you do it. We thought Stacy had a unique talent, but obviously you must too. Come on, show us.
@Stormhorse23 i know this is 3 years ago but if you are so good, you have probably competed well, and if you are as good as Stacy Westfall you should atleast be a little bit famous ...
I think one of the amazing things about Stacy Westfall is that, not only is she an amazing rider, but she is also humble. That kind of talent mixed with kindness is what makes her great.
Stormhorse23 - I'd LOVE to see your video. I imagine it would pale in comparison to what Stacy is able to do with this animal. Do I detect a bit of jealousy?? Please post your video so the public can be the judge.
I love you Stacy Westfall!!! You are my hero!!!! And Ellen, you did an awesome job for your first time on Roxy!! -3 :D

What!? Stacy Westfall was on Ellen and I didn't hear about it? I missed it? Well I'm SOOO glad its on here. She's one of m,y favourite riders!
She's one amazing reiner.. She sparked my interest in reining. And honestly, reining without a bridle or saddle! Wow!!!
If you've ever tried spinning or doing a sliding stop even with a saddle and bridle, it'd be soo hard to do without!
Stacy you're awesome! You are so amazing with horses!! =D
