Your videos are great!! how can I make a border with this stitch? I'm making a baby blanket with a row of single crochet and a row of double crochet.
I still don't get very well the thing with the "formula" the multiples and de number of chains needed... I never counted how many chains I have on each border!
Each YouTube video player has pause and rewind. You are welcome to try any pattern that you want but this is not one I would recommend for a beginner. I would suggest a granny square or a hat so you can practice the basic stitches.
Each YouTube video player has pause and rewind. You are welcome to try any pattern that you want but this is not one I would recommend for a beginner.
Hi Teresa I like this pattern and i am going to start this weekend but i'm not quite sure how many chains you started with could you explain the multiple 8+3 that is in your blog. also what size needle are you using in this video? I appreciate your help. Great Videos : )
It takes 8 chains to make one shell in this pattern. You will crochet 8 chains for each shell that you want to add. The +3 is done one time in the beginning. I do have written and symbol instructions posted on my crochet blog.
The multiple is on my crochet blog. The size for a queen size bed will depend on the hook and yarn that you use. I would estimate a throw would be 220-250 chains.
can you explain it more easier for me cuz i am a beginner and i dont know all that crochet talk so could u make another video of this video but easier.
Hi, I love all your videos..it so helps me to see it as opposed to reading it...I'm making lots more beautiful blankets, thanks to you, just wondering if you could do some videos on the various trims you might be able to do on squares, such as the star stitch square, granny square, etc..thanks...
I have videos posted for the shell, it makes a very nice trim, as well as the reverse single crochet and picot stitch. Are you familiar with them or do you need help finding them?
You are welcome. There are two common ways to hold the crochet hook. There could be other ways that I have not seen. I didn't like the other grip when I was learning so I switched to how I hold it now.
thank you very much, i am not a very good crochet-er, but your videos are so easy to follow! unfortunately, my stitch isn't coming along too nice like yours, but practice makes perfect! :D
You are welcome. :) If you are a beginner, your stitches are going to be uneven, that is normal. My stitches were very uneven when I first started out. Each person has an individual tension which keeps the stitches even. Practicing will help you develop your own tension and then your stitches will start to be even.
oops, this comment was supposed to go with the one asking about how many chains to make for making a blanket that is about as big as a queen sized bed.
What it means is that it takes 11 chains to complete the pattern stitch. If you wanted 20 shells, you would take 20X11=220+7=227 for 227 chains. The 7, which is the + amount, is used once in the beginning.
This is showing how to do the stitch. It is a swatch and not a project. You determine now many chains you want to use in your projet from the multiple. My crochet blog explains multiples and this individual stitch.
oops i made a math error in the previous comment...to make 19 shell-drop stitches i multiply it by 7 and get 133..then i add 11 so that will give me a total of 144 chains. I am doing this correct because i want to make a baby afghan.
i just wanted to say thank you for your video tutorials. I am a visual learner, and just having you doing different stitches and motifs are wonderful. :)
i just watched the video about understandng formulas. to make 19 shell-drop stitches i multiply it by 7 and get 63..then i add 11 so that will give me a total of 74 chains. I am doing this correct because i want to make a baby afghan.
i tried this by the formula i wanted 3 trebles so done 3x7 = 21 then added 11 but eneded up with4 spaces left at the end how many r u supposed to end up with
It should turn out even with your last stitch being the half shell. I have had that happen to me on various patterns. What I do is to take apart the chain and sew in the tail. If it is to hard to take apart, I will just cut at the part between the tail and chain, then take it apart and sew it in. People interpret instructions differently. That does not mean they are doing it wrong, especially when a few extra chains is the only part not correct.
You do 7 chains for each shell you want in your afghan. If you wanted 15 Shells you would take 15 X 7 = 105 + 11. You would crochet 105 chaines plus 11 additinal chains.
If you are using baby weight yarn, you would probably buy about 4 skeins of yarn if they are the double size and 8 skeins if it is the smaller size. It is better to have more than not enough.
I am estimating about 8-10 skeins for a throw over your couch with 4-ply worsted weight.
You chain how every many you need to get what stitches you need. Maybe you only need 6 chains between instead of 7. I just took the basic formula from the book because so many people ask for some basic instruction in writing. You can revise the basic instructions to work for what you need. I hope that will help you. :)
I fixed it so it comes out even when I use 8+12. Thank you for your help. These videos you have made are really helpful and nice to have when one is stuck. =]

The only thing I didn't get was like how many times you wrapped the yarn around the hook before you went in the chain

I will need a time code or name of a stitch to know exactly what technique you are referring to.

I have done a video with a shell scarf.

Ok, thanks, was thinking of a scalloped edging I guess its called.
canrsiegrl 3 years ago
yes I've seen the picot edging and the reverse single, but was wondering if there was any kind of loopy fancier edging...
canrsiegrl 3 years ago
That is something I can keep in mind for a future tutorial. Right now I don't have any fancier loops.

I was wondering, for your baby afghan, how much yarn do you use for one that size?
What if I were to make a throw-sized blanket? I really like this pattern, and I am looking for something to make that I can throw over my couch. =)
Thanks!
