  • Holy shit lol

  • Hey Larry, Great video, I love watching you go thru the gears and your motor sounds awesome! I was great to meet you at Norwalk during Drag Week '09. I just posted a video response on my in-car 4 speed video. Now we need to find a streetable manual trans that will handle 900+ horsepower and convince Jay to put it behind a cammer. Bye for now, Joel Nystrom

  • @HemiJoel

Hi Joel! Ya, finding a gear style tranny that is streetable would be tough. Don't know if a Liberty Equalizer is too friendly on the road?? A Lenco is cool, work great too. Four levers sticking up through the floor would be uber-cool.

  • have a friend that drag races a 64 ranch wagon with a 428 cobra jet in it runs 11 flat i think its top loader 4 speed.

  • i was just looking into a rams intered iron unit with the adjustable pressure plate with counterweights for a 2900-3100lbs car , what did yours weight?

  • The car weighs 4100 with me.

The RAM is an "ok" low dollar unit. Once you get a custom unit you realize how cheap RAM stuff is.

    Call Hyatt Racing Services

    440-254-1311

I ran RAM for 12 yrs, got tired of issues and switched to Tim Hyatt. Got 2 yrs on it and it's still like new. Quality and turn around time is exceptional compared to RAM. Tech help is second to none.

  • are you using a single or multiple disc unit? i had also looked into the mcleod soft-lok dual-disc units. does hyatt have a website?

  • Single disc. It's bascially the same as Mcleod unit. They all sell the same basic stuff, just the biggest difference is the quality and tech support. Tim is second to none but unfortunately he doesn't have a website. He does answer his phone on the weekends or evenings. Not anything like RAM or Mcleod.

  • Dang you got smoked...Nice ride though.

  • Hey 59Mack, nice ride... gotta luv those FE's are you running a DNE 5spd and what clutch are you running ?? Thanks DaBLueOvalBoys...

  • Yes, it's a Nash 5 spd.

In this video it was a RAM sintered iron, it's since been replaced with custom built set up that works much better.

  • Effin great video sounds like my 63 Gal. can't wait to get mine back on the ground..if it would stop raining. What shifter are you using?

  • It's a Long shifter with my own custom built pistol grip handle.

  • Cool, what motor you runnin? I just puled my 63 out today after replacing the power steering hoses, I have a little video with my son and I. burnout and passes down the track are after I get the toploader rebuilt. Where are you from ?

  • 428ci.

I'm in NE Ohio. Do a search for "UMTR" on youtube, as that's the group I run with.

  • what does your car run? what are the numbers on the engine horespower/torque

  • It has gone a best of 11.21 @ 120 mph.

Using HP calculators, it's ball park 550-575 hp.

  • hey, you may gave lost but man i bet you had a hellova time doing it...im jealous!

  • It's time trials. No race is won or lost.

  • well no matter what im jealous!

  • Holy hell that looks like alot of fun!

  • this is great. thanks for posting

  • WOODY ALERT!!!!!!!!!

  • I was wondering why it seemed like you were getting ran by - I know a Galaxie is a heavyweight in its own right - but then I see it's a wagon?!?!?!? Way to go man, that is one really bad ass FOMOCO!!!

  • Thanks. I know it's not the fastest thing out there, but I have alot of fun driving it.

  • Super nice car- What is it you're adjusting at the steering wheel...?

  • LOL!! I get alot of comments on that one! It's the mechanical telltale on the tach. For some reason(unknown to me til I saw this video)I keep "resetting" it. Bad habit...which I've now quit doing.

  • I figured it was where your line loc was, mine seems to engage only when it feels like it, lol awesome good sounding ride man

  • My older brother had Green 64 2 door with a 390 4spd. He used to take me to the track in the early 70's to watch him race.

He also had a 3 deuce's on it But I dont know if that was a factory option.

His best friend use to run a 63 Impala with a 409. Sure was great watching them race.

I stll remember falling asleep in the back seat when My brother and friends were getting the car ready for the local drag meet late at nite

Thx for the Video! Sure brings back great Memories.

  • my fx.....which ALWAYS ran the right lane........would not.......NOT........have seen any visible traffic out front in the left lane.....unless i broke.....

factory 427fx.........w/ aluminum nhra bumper re-mod

  • AND if bullfrogs had shotguns, snakes wouldent mess with em......

  • what kind of transmission is that

  • Doug Nash 5 spd.

  • Sounds really great, responds quickly...you shift as well as anyone. So...why are all the 3000 pound cars whipping by you like you are pulling a large boat and trailer? Could it be the extra 1000 pounds? Good going anyway. Nice ride. Hmmmmm...a .060 overbore and a Ford 4.3" stroke crank gives a 460 a boost to 527. That should equalize things.

  • I'm an FE guy, so none of that fancy "new" stuff.

  • Right on!! hey, is this pre- or post blower? speaking of, what are the basic particulars of your 390. I have a 66 f100 rod (352)and have either been thinking of an fe blower motor or a pair of four barrels w/ram air, thunderbolt style. just want something simple, period correct, and just plain trick.

  • The wagon never had a blower, my black car has the blower.

Blown car is pretty standard, nothing trick actually. I only put 5# of boost to it, so it's pretty mild, as it's a cruiser not a race car(at the present time)

  • I have a longs shifter on my car love it have never missed a shift with it. nice ride 5*

  • man thats the way your suppose to shift, not many people can drive that anymore, awesome! what kinda shifter were you using?

  • It's a Long Vertical gate shifter that I custom designed a piston grip for. That was my first race with it and I really like it.

  • right on , ive been trying to put a stick in my car for about 3-4 years, but can enver seem to save enough up the get the trans, moneys tight and chevy 4 speeds are outrageous! i even though of getting an older ford t-10 which are usually only a 1-2 hundred and make my own holes in the scattershield for it. ive got a 64 nova with a 302 chevy in it

  • A guy at work sold a true M-22 rockcrusher with the bell housing and a 168 tooth flywheel for 300 bucks, I missed out on that deal, I have a M-20 in my 68 Chevy II, T-10 yokes are weak, and they weigh a ton, if your talking the old style....

  • Yea he does a masterful job with that shifter, I still bang em, lol get too excited LOL

  • thanks "freighttrain"

  • What engine, 406? I drove '63 406 w/tri-power in high school. Pretty fair performer. Damned expensive though.

  • My dad had a powder blue 63 with the 406.. It ran pretty hard at the san fenando drags. He would tell people it was a 390.. Eventually got caught. lol

  • Lets see some more! Show us the mill! Must be 500 HP. Sounds like you shift around 5500.

  • Leave 5500, shift around 6K, go thru about 6200.

  • Great Video! Thanks for the ride.

  • You are wayyyyyy too busy in there. You do shift good though. Most of these videos, the guys shift like grandma. Your car runs good, but you might as well be pulling a traier. I'd like to see your gear in a 67 Fairlane.

  • Just went 11.21 @120mph last month. Not bad for 4100#.

  • what happen the other guy won ?

  • TIME TRIALS. When a mid 11 sec car runs a low 9 sec car the faster car will get there sooner since they leave at the same time.

  • SWEET !!!!

Tell more about the car and what organization you run with.
