This is the worst "Kiss Me, Kate" production I have ever seen. Barrie Kosky shamelessly abuses the play in order to create a tasteless gay parade. The charm and the wit of this musical don't work anymore and the love story between Lilli and Fred doesn't work at all. Of course you can modernize "Kiss Me, Kate" in a way that makes sense; but as a matter of fact, the cowboy setting in the Shakespeare parts doesn't make sense at all, maybe apart from satisfying gay fantasies.
