Also, if you wanna become proffesional, do not only focus on metal! Become a wide drummer. I am one of the widest drummers my teachers has met, and that is why I've succeeded.

@Bustinthecaps the best i can tell you is practice a bunch. a super great way to start is the tommy igoe groove essentials 1.0 dvd he teaches all different kinds of grooves from basic rock to a bunch of latin stuff. it also doesn't hurt just to do coordination exercises (i just go with the basic rudiments) with hands and feet. i even try to play different rudiments with hands and feet at the same time for fun. most of my practice comes from not being behind my kit

@zackyloverfoREVer777 it really doesnt take too long to learn any song. once you get to a certain skill level, you can almost play any song (keyword there is almost!) but theyre songs ive tried that take a loooong time. for me, its more a matter of knowing the song and the breaks and fills and just memorizing it all cuz if you know every part to the song, its going to be that much easier to learn it and play it.

@Bustinthecaps if u can, get drum lessons before playing songs, but otherwise, try to learn some things from utube and find things out on your own, if u r really good at it, try to play MUCH easier songs than this, like maybe nickelback, then eventually get enough speed to play this kind of a song. @Bustinthecaps id just start by finding what kind of music you would like to play. look up the drummers for those bands and just study their drumming and music. thats what i did. i found tool and then danny carey and started studying and before i knew it, i was playing tool and a7x and just about any band. its a lot of fun but id say thats a good place to start. im assuming you have a kit right?
