  • Don't we have a huge experiment that demonstrates irrationality. It's called democracy.

  • I didn't realise Tim had such a big fat red body. And why are you sitting on his knee?

  • dan you are the sweetest human being i ever virtually met

  • I see the logic of both men, I am yet undecided as to with whom I side. Regardless, I respect both for being extremely civil about their argument and even humorous with each other. Keep up the good work.

  • You win Dan

  • If I knew I was given an expensive pain-killer it would make me feel ungrateful to complain about the pain.

Dan, does your experiment test the pain and or the tendency to complain about it?

  • Dan,

Your arguments are superior, please don't belittle Tim. Economists are easy targets.

  • Dan,

Look at the fMRI neuroeconomic research and you will find quite a bit of support for the emotional theories.

  • Thoughts that get you thinking. Thank you Dan.

  • Loved the cardboard head.

Have a sense of humour guy below.

...was the cardboard head really necessary?

    ..disappointed... :(

  • @modelmark

I don't think Ariely is saying that we NEVER act rationally. I think he is saying we don't behave rationally nearly enough. Not enough to bank our entire economy on it. (bad pun)

  • "Experiments are the only way we can learn something for real."

    And you learned this... experimentally?

  • Write a Microeconomics 101 textbook! Every chapter should have the standard rational economic model with counterpoints.
