I love the movie. There were a lot of gun fights in the old wild west. However, there were just as many in Appalachia. I got family who were in gunfights in Harlan County, Kentucky. Lots of people died back there even after the west was settled, '20s, 30s. The Hatfields and McCoys was in around West Virginia, Kentucky. These feuds and gunfights are never talked about.
The thing about Doc Holliday is he had Tuberculosis. He knew he didn't have long to live and therefore wasn't afraid to die at any moment. Those are the craziest basturds and the most dangerous
I love the shot of the four of them walking, in black, with fire in the background, as if to say they're walking into a very bad situation, which would continue on for the rest of the movie. OR... it's a symbolic gesture of what was said earlier: death (all of them dressed in black) and hell (the fire) followed. Great shot.
So sheriff, you disarmed them huh?.. Why are they all dead?..lol Well they made absolutely sure they were.....with their lives..lol I'd shot the county sheriff just for being a pussy....Friendly fire while in the stand off...nobody would miss em...now they screaming murder..but your bad asses right?..Not murder when both parties unholsters their fire arms..now its survival over self defense..Better hope the odd's are in your favor..
From about 2:00 to 3:28 this is the most accurate depiction of the OK Corral gunfight ever put on film, as it follows actual court testimony about as closely as it is possible to do. After 3:28 unfortunately, it goes "Hollywood" and historical accuracy goes out the door.
@jeezusallahchrist the cowboys or the Earps? because most of the cowboys were hit in the first volley, so perhaps you would like to explain how easy it is to aim and shoot a gun when your body is being filled with holes, and the Earps, they were probably better shots, but Hollywood wants to make you beleive that six shot guns can fire 30-40 rounds.
@MAnnaconduit1 No, I already know how holly-weird fabricated the movie for the viewers.
and I own a few guns myself and on a weekly basis I go shooting. And it is damn hard and takes lots of practice to shoot while my body moves. With your life on stake mixed with tons of adrenaline I couldn't even begin to imagine how it would be in a a gun fight. I would like to be in one though lol
5:34 oh hey there's the slut he was banging on the side, nice to see that even with both his brothers bleeding on the street he still has time to admire someone else s girl despite that he is married, but then again Wyatt Earp was never above bending, breaking or screwing over the rules when it suited him, like telling the circuit sheriff he was not going to allow them to be arrested, i realize what they went through, but the arrogance of Earp was only fueled by the fact he never got hit
this is the most accurate re-enactment of the OK Corral gunfight, I read this encyclopedia about the wild west and it showed the layout, how the bodies were found, who was standing where, how th first guy ran off and Ike Clanton ran into the studio then off out of town. kind of fascinating to see it how it really happened.
I grew up 7 miles from Wyatts birthplace. I went to school with some of his descendants, their account of Wyatt Earp as a person is vastly different than history's. They all viewed him as a sociopath and cold blooded murderer.
" They'll be less apt to get nervy if he's on the street howitzer." Great build up to this fight. I've been to Tombstone and stuck my finger through the still existing bullet holes. The fight is a bit inaccurate when you see Tom McClaury, the man that Doc blasted with the shotgun. The movie shows Tom getting hit and falling dead immediately. Tom actually staggered away from the fight and later fell dead in Fremont Street. Also it is believed that Morgan Earp fired the first shot.
I love the part when they are walking down the street and they are all nervous and Doc is just casually walking showing no fear, whistling, and tipping his cap just a normal day to him.. Then the wink he gives and Russell says "Oh My God" awesome shootout and movie A+++
@Joseph565112 You're a fucking retard, anyone with enough brain power to turn on a computer could figure out that it was editing, I was hoping other people would simply take dry humour for what it was. Don't take it out on other people just because your boyfriend loves you with his fist.
@Joseph565112 Only an idiot makes spelling mistakes in a public forum. Your boyfriend told me that he wouldn't hurt you as much if you didn't cry out your fathers name when he's filling your prolapsed rectum with love-sauce.
@skegpit And now you've confirmed my suspicions that you're both an idiot and a douche, for only a douche would even bring up simple errors in comments that are typed in roughly three to five seconds, faggot.
@Joseph565112 Why do Americans always say "douche"? It just means shower in French, call me a cunt- it sounds funnier. You have also confirmed that you are a sad, catamite, troll; only an anally reamed troll would take a light-hearted, whimsical comment and start acting like an internet-toughguy. You started making offensive remarks first, cum-rag. P.S. Your husband/boyfriend would treat you nicer if you stopped letting truckers use you as a toilet. Haha, this is fun! Trolls are entertaining.
@skegpit I'm a troll? I corrected your inane comment...which then provoked your litany of bullshit. I don't give a damn what douche means in French, asshat.
@Joseph565112 You didn't correct anything. I made an observation intended to point out the silliness of hollywood editing. But your last comment was relatively civilised and to the point so I'll leave it there. Asshat is actually funny, so roll with that in future. I'm an asshat! Haha! love it. Clown-shoes is also an acceptable insult. P.S. It's also possible that I'm a troll, don't feed me. Herp derp!
@cfhcowboy Yeah, I wasn't a big "Top Gun" guy, but it is a good flick. I remember me and 4 of my bro's going to see TAPS, with Tom Cruse, Sean Penn, Timothy Hutton in 1981. That's a great flick showing Cruse and Penn b4 Risky Business AND Fast Times. Timothy Hutton is also a great actor. Watch The Falcon And Thee Snowman with he and Penn, circa 85', based on a true 1970's story. Peace
In many ways, Billy Clanton was the most tragic figure of the shootout. He was just a brave, but naive, teenager who took after his family (who were all on the wrong tracks) and was messed up, thinking he had to man up. In the real fight, when some of his 'friends' (and his own brother) ran away, he stayed blazing at the Earps, and was shot multiple times. When a town person came to him dying in the dirt, he asked in a weak voice for some more bullets for his gun. Those were his last words.
@ltuomela i think you could be right. I think they needed someone a little younger, to show the innocence/youth of Morgan. I mean Paxton didn't do bad showing how Morg was never in a gunfight before and how he was scared shitless when Ike threw up his hands, not knowing what ot do.
@fishermanofthewest No, i've seen this movie many times. It was a movie flaw, yes the weapon itself holds 2 rounds. But the flaw was it fired 3 times instead of 2.
It's not a three round shot-gun. It's poor editing; watch the scene closely and you will see the same guy being shot, when he fires the "third" round.
@lithic2000 Actually it looks like five to me. One in the air, two into the dude, then two more into the same dude. Looks like ol' Doc was lettin' 'em have it with both barrels. Might have been two in the air too, for a total of six! The muzzle is out of the frame on that first one!
@MrAlcazar My point is that this feels very, very much like "What Hollywood thinks the old west was like" rather than an actual attempt to make a period piece(which Westerns ARE).
@MrAlcazar Well my thinking in using the ratner or Bay analogy was that they specialize in dumbed down films that lack any sort of artistry. This movie feels similar. It's not quite in their league of stupid but I was being hyperbolic.
My only beef with this scene is I've heard it said that if there really was a burning building the Earps would have helped to put out the fire, and I am inclined to believe it....
Virgil put up the poster that said "You can't carry a gun in town" But Wyatt and his brothers let Doc Holiday carry guns and he wasn't a law man, he was just Wyatts' friend and he let Doc get away with it. That's not fair >:(
I love the movie.

Nobody had the guts for it except Wyatt and Doc. Doc waited to walk out of there with his friend.

Virgil put up the poster that said "You can't carry a gun in town" But Wyatt and his brothers let Doc Holiday carry guns and he wasn't a law man, he was just Wyatts' friend and he let Doc get away with it. That's not fair >:(

Best role Val Kilmer ever did!! I love this movie. Ike Clanton is played by Stephan Lang- Col. Miles Quaritch of Avatar. Great cast!!

some shrieff he is. he hid during the fight, and comes out and says "you're all under arrest." what a dickhead.
