My Choir Teacher had to make my class watch it for the whole period. The Box art looked boring, and I thought that I would have to sleep through it until the end of the period. It was until then that there was a bunch of Drumming sounds. I opened my eyes and.... BOOM!!! I seriously amazed and interested. I really wanted to watch the whole segment, but the period was over.... Should've used my time wisely lol.
AHHHHH!!! Blast is amazing, probably my favorite group to see and I just found out that my music ensemble is opening for one of there performances.. This is probably one of the happiest days of my life. :D
I saw blast about a week ago at the grand in Macon, Georgia. They were much different than this video. The snare solo and battle is more fluid and clean now. It has more style and stage presence as well. They also have changed the line up. The second snare player is now lance kindl I believe. It is way better than this video. It is must see. You should all get tickets
@zeromanlyness I agree but hey, it's hard to beat Nick Angelis and Jeff Queen as two featured performers in the same show. Two of the best of the 90's in the same show...I wish I could've seen it live when they were there.
5:18-5:21 holy mother of God.... do you know how hard it is to get drummers to hit singly & make it all sound like one drummer????? we could never get this in high school because one guy always screwed it up for us so we had to take it out....
The guy who played the tenor solo near the end is our high school's drumline instructor. He's a total jerk but, he know's what he doing. He also wrote all the battery parts.
@anewell41 But he's right. The bounce of a drum is a crutch that too many drummers use. Lots and lots of professional drummers say that you don't get "good" until you can two-stroke roll on a sweater/pillow. That is when your arms can roll by themselves, without the need for the drum head.
@anewell41 It's not about the bounce. It's about building up your chops in order to have enough strength to maintain the control these snare drummerrs have. You can't let the drum do all the work.
@shelleykinzerton What im saying is you cant get this good JUST practicing on a pillow. A pillow is not ideal at all. Just because the snare has a bounce does not mean its good. Once you learn to control the bounce and use it to your advantage is when it works.
Yeah for those of you hating, you don't think its hard? For a percussionist each time the stick comes in contact with the drum its just like a professional basketball player taking a shot, it matters A LOT of they make it or not because it defines the good ones from the great ones. Come show me any basketball player who makes upwards of 1,000 shots a game and makes them all, because this video just showed you a drummer who made all of his shots. Perfectly. Blindfolded.
Even though I don't play percussion, I know that it takes a lot of effort and talent. I respect these guys so much. People don't realize how hard it is to do something like this. Drummers are amazing!
@mtthwrcks thank you, im sick of the band kids saying the drumline have no talent, id like to see a tuba or flute player do wat we do, drummers for life!
Oh my...!!! O__O is literally a fkng battle! xD... i just throw my drum set by the window and practice only with the snare after finish watching this, i dont need nothing more! :D
I thought the full line parts of this video were awesome!
The whole battle and interpretive dance with drums strapped on was a bit over the top for me. Didn't like it. The expressions on their faces, like they are kicking ass, doesn't match the sound coming out. Rudiments are cool, and I appreciate their technical abilities, but the choreography is ballet like and the beat, the majority of the time, isn’t there. Fire your choreographer and get some funk. Just my opinion. :)
I have seen blast more than 10 times and I still love it!! Being a percussionist was the best decision I ever made!! I HATE when people say it doesnt take talent to beat on a drum. Let me tell ya, its something you have to practice everday. @mtthwrcks I agree completely. People don't understand that there are different techniches for every percussion instrument and mastering them is actually extremely difficult
@dethklok4321 Hope you don't mind if I intrude here. Your right though. Randomly beating on a drum is stupid easy. But making sound great while adding visuals is where the fun starts.
@termo543 sorry but there is nothing 'random' about it.you must not play drums or know how to read or write notes.you send me a video of you playing flam drags, swiss triplets,5 stroke rolls or all percussion rudiments and we will call it even.
@multibuddhaneo You didn't understand what I meant. It is easy to grab a stick and hit the head. But doing it in an artistic manner with visuals and keeping on beat and keeping time AND marching is where the skill is. Trust me. I'm in my High School Front Ensemble I also practice my snare daily. I can also read notes just fine.
@ribleli anyone who says it takes no talent to beat a drum is a complete fucking moron. I marched DCI Div 1/World Class for 3 years (baritone) and I got to witness the skill of the battery day in and day out. It's unreal what they have to go through in practice and in drills.
Blast isn't a drumline, I can't believe how many comments say that. Blast is a broadway musical performance, and this is one of the percussion features from the video! Get it right!
@THE8SHREDDER - - - Really? Apart from the shit spelling "whaen" - you dumbass - do you LOVE it, or do you just have to endure it because you are so weak that her lust has you cryin' like a bitch?

im srry but im a drummer,, i play a drum kit.. i also can play drumline like you see here. im very talented, i can even play drumline with my drum kit.. you cant ever not learn too much.. on top of that, i can play guitar, bass, and trumpet.. im always into learning music cuz it facinates me. so whoever thinks that drummers play drums cuz they cant play anything else is a jealous lier. i want to see if you can play all 2000 different percusion instruments and keep a simple beat.
