@maynerd23 Actually, quite a lot of white liberals in America are very keen on mentioning this. Hispanics, btw, came with Columbus. If however you keep it in your barnyard, you can do whatever you like with your goat, or your ass.
If this is about Obama's Healthcare plan (which, giving the date, I will assume it is)
Then all he want's to do is give people MORE choice in healthcare, and make sure the existing Healthcare companies don't fuck with their paying customers.
No one is forcing the average American to do shit, or taking away any choice
No you are assuming incorrectly, Healthcare is a small issue, I want My President, and my Congress, and the Supreme Court to govern within the confines of the Constitution . If not I will do as the Constitution directs and replace them, by any means necessary.
No Slavery is and aways was in direct opposition to the Constitution. Men have the right to life and liberty and the product of there work. Once blacks were deemed human (BTW it was clearly a crime against humanity to say different) it became a FEDERAL not a State issue.
Healthcare is not a Federal issue, and can not be made into one.
Same way as Education is a State Issue, BUT they do it anyway. EoE is clearly unconstitutional.
But the problem with individual states running education could be a gross variation in standards and qualifications of students based on where they live, which COULD be damaging.
Of course, (with the exception of Cali :p) I'm sure some (or most) states could provide better financial support.
Your "problem is a strength, when the individual states have to compete against each other you will always have a best and a worst. The only intervention should be for the President to call out the worst and praise the best. If the DOE is in charge they can (and do) set the standard low.
The states are in charge of setting standards and such (which I thought they did, but I could be mistaken) and if they slip or there are severe problems, some outside agency steps in.
I don't intend to sound condescending, but how much do you really know about the Constitution?
It has all this worked out.
The federal government has limited functions the big ones are enforcing the rights of the individual living in the States, and war powers. The Tenth Amendment, states that all powers not expressly assigned to the federal government are reserved to the states.
If we stick to it the Constitution very nicely divides the powers.
I'm no expert, at all, and I couldn't name the ammendments off the top of my head :P
My interpretation was that the constitution was written more to protect state governments, and to adapt with the flow of time (thus be somewhat changing).
I don't think I based any of my opinions in constitutionality either though, more on what is actually going on, and what system would be best/more effective, regardless of how constitutional (not saying disregard it of course)
Changing or adding to the Constitution is (intentionality) not an easy thing to do.
As far as how effective a thing (just as with the example of education) if you have 50 different States trying different approaches to the same problem the best will serve as an example to the worst.
Again this gives the President the very powerful position of being able to call out the worst and praise the best.
The division of powers is one of the most important things the fathers accomplished.
The plan to have a government run, not-for-profit, but self sustaining healthcare agency(right word?), and to impose restrictions and standards upon the healthcare companies so they don't abuse their clients.
HTWW when you watch this replayed do you not see even a tiny bit of hypocrisy in your position? You should change your name to Howthemindofignorantpeopleworks, because trust me the rest of the world is looking at the right wing movement in your country with disgust right now.
The extreme left are just as ignorant and crazy as the extreme right, I support free speech in all its forms though. Yes even idiots like the one giving this speech has the right to voice his opinion I'm just shocked at how many people take it seriously when the logic is so obviously flawed.
Those willing to subvert the constitution? please the extreme right is just as willing to subvert the constitution and the rights of americans. Just look how many right wing politicians support torture...
ohhhh my bad man....i forgot it was cool to kill infants but shiitttttt when it comes to torturing or killing convicted murders/ terrorist we better just stick them in a nice little cell with a color tv, arts and craft and other bull shit to meet their fucking needs.... that logic right there my friend is indeed fucked up.
Agree with that. I prefer Obama's solution. Blow up the towelheads & their families with Predator drones. Too bad we don't have space based lasers. We could blast them to Kingdom come with a computer keystroke. One man's torture is another man's discomfort.
Me personally I would be cutting their fingers off with garden shears. Watch Sharky's Machine to see an example. We now have a coward in charge of National Security.
Kill infants? what the fuck are you talking about man, unless you are referencing abortion in which case go fuck yourself. That is a fight I'm not willing to get into right now.
"please the extreme right is just as willing to subvert the constitution and the rights of Americans"
Absolutely, thats what I'm saying.
So, are you as a liberal willing to stand up to both extremes or do you just want the right extreme defeated? Unless Liberals and Conservatives both are willing to agree that American's need to fight both extremes the the Country is lost.
There is something you should realize, I'm not an American I am from Canada we don't have a 2 party system so our views of what are extreme left and extreme right probably differ greatly.
I agree though you guys need to start working together to weed out the extremist so you can get to the real issue's instead of clogging up massive amounts of network news time with racism and stupidity that makes your country look so bad right now.
I must ask though what is the extreme left by your definition because I do not live there and the rightwing extremists are getting most of the airtime right now.
I watch CNN, BBC world news and CBC mostly so that is where I get my information of what is going on in your country right now.
Not to be insulting but most of the news networks in in your country are complete jokes so its hard to get an accurate picture of what is going on there.
Actually, I'm Buddhist. But rly, what does anyone's faith have to do with anything? Wrong path? Rly? Theres no such thing as a true path, sorry. Tell me, what do you know about VODOU to tell me that its a "wrong path" to begin with? (cut out the Hollywood bullshit plz).
I want to know how "I," a person you don't even know, who had a faith you know nothing of(yes, I'm going to step ahead b4 your reply and say this) is a "signpost to danger."
And one more thing, b4 you try to pull information from the internet about Vodou, don't waste your time. It's an oral tradition. So unless you have dedicated yourself to a Hounfor, and have a Mambo or Houngan, you will never know anything about it. Interviewers or people asking questions are given around 10% truth, the rest riddle or false. So good luck! :D
These ignorant americans just cheer at everything that sounds "positive".
I'm not generalizing to all americans here... but lets just say there's 90% ignorant fools in that crowd. Also HowTheWorldWorks obviously has no clue how the world works, he makes me sick by claiming that he does.
It does make you a bit unwell to think that people like howtheworldworks exist in the world. But, they seem to be becomeing less common for about the last 50 years, so perhaps in the end, common sense and intelligence will prevail
Again, shut the fuck up you idiotic --I'm guessing conservative-- Where were you when Bush attacked Iraq and spent over $684,000,000,000? Not opposing him I bet, you have no right to ridicule a Presidency that is trying to fix our country instead of wedge war on another for selfish reasons.
Regardless of what they might have said if you asked them that, they did support the war in Iraq and many still do.
Why shame on Obama? He's been in office 243 days, do you expert him to have stopped the Iraq war and solved all our problems by now? That's just stupid.
How long did WWII take? For gods sake we almost lost that war, how long should it take to take care of Iran and Afghanistan, assuming we are properly motivated and courageously led? More then 2 months is too long, unleash the dogs of war, then get the hell out.
Tell me if I'm wrong, but is that a medium size bowl you use to cut your hair with?
Just the objective observations of a true agnostic. Tell me, does not knowing something make you afraid? I'm just not sure what motivates you to pretend you know everything.
First off, I'm not an agnostic. i am an atheist. I don't believe in god anymore than you believe in invisible pink unicorns bud. Second, I shave my head. Not knowing things doesn't make me afraid at all. There's tons of things I don't know that's why I'm a university student. I don't remember saying i knew everything. All i said was that htww is a douche. You can read all you want into it, but it's not meant to be deep. just fact. i can see by your posts you are a fanatic so fuck off!
Please, at least pay attention when I take the time to point out your ignorance, I deserve it.
Never called you an Agnostic, I'm the Agnostic. I was inferring that atheist, by nature, are so afraid of not knowing (not ever being able to know) that they (like the religious) try and espouse personal dogma as fact. This practice of making up truth is induced by an overwhelming fear of the unknown.
If you ever want to succeed in any kind of science you will have to face this fear head on.
first of all you are making the mistake that most people do. You are generalizing the nature of atheists. This is what a fool does. they try to say that all "blanks" are "blank." There is much diversity in humans. As well, you assume, which you should not, that i'm afraid of the unkown. That's what retards. do. you yourself are now trying to make up your own truths about me...and all atheists. the majoirty of scientists are atheist and they use the scientific method to obtain truth...not dogma
Atheists tend to exaggerate there numbers by including Agnostics.
In fact they openly try to tell us agnostics that we are "really" atheist.
Anyone that categorically discounts the plausibility of a force from outside the known universe could be responsible for the Universe is not using scientific method.
Atheist dogma is not scientific it is an emotional response, fear is the most common emotion, but you are correct, anger and hate are also available. Scientific Method is not available.
He speaks as though the Constitution is a perfect static document. What about the concept of a "living Constitution" so that our country can remain competitive in the inevitably changing future.
Lee Dorn is a chump... I challenge him to 3 rounds in the Octagon.
When did I say we should change the Constitution illegally?? I'm just saying we shouldn't worship the thing like a worthless bible... we need to carefully adapt it to the changing world/society/culture/what have you in order to maintain its legitimacy & effectiveness.
No the government hasn't helped our nation prosper at all. Give me a break. You constitutional fundamentalists need to wake up realize that we don't live in 1776 anymore. When the founding fathers wrote the constitution there were not billions and billions of people living here and the evils of capitalism had not yet reared their ugly head. You are all entitled your political view but I just have this to say. VIVA LA OBAMA I LOVE SOCIALISM. DOWN WITH YOU CAPITALIST PIGS!!!
Are you conservetard troglodytes really so STUPID that you are unable to count? Or do you not even care about getting the number of morons at your 75,000(that's a generous estimate) moron/racist march? You tea-baggers are pathetic!
1000,000+? That's hilarious. Why not just use the study done by Glenn "lonesome roads" Beck's University of "I don't remember"? Then you could say that it was 1.7 MILLION.
The Daily Mail of London analyzed the arial photos and put the number at almost 2 million. Sure, no one else estimated that high, so I doubt it's accuracy. However to laugh at someone who put forth a number at one-half of one percent of that national U.K. publication just shows who and what you are. Good job!
Poor thing. I'll phrase myself at your 2nd grade level. My point was that there were estimates much higher than the one you ridiculed, & not many that were less (DailyKos notwithstanding).
To thoughtfully answer a post: read the post, consider facts that are presented, & retort with facts you believe to be more relevant.
To simply call names and spew garbage is sophomoric. Calling names is not always inappropriate, but to do so devoid of facts is simply a display of your benightedness.
I dont even live in england but I agree, I have seen multiple times the Daily Mail slander others in a typical right-wing fashion. They are hardly a reliable source at all.
This guy is nothing more than a closeted GOP member who hides under the cloak of an independent libertarian. He's arrogant, he thinks he's better than others based on his desire and lust for money and private property, and that anything else detracting from those things is wrong and should be stopped at all costs.
Seriously, this guy represents a major problem with this country, esp. the past 40 years. It's basically greed and belief that he is above others in this country.
But he IS better than you -- You want your needs met by a Government willing to take from others and give it to you, and he is willing to just work for what he wants.
But now we are told we must grant arbitrary powers to czars? This is not a new phenomenon in our government administration. We've had a formal "drug czar" since 1982. I find the situational outrage most interesting. George W Bush had 35 czars. Abstinence czar, bird flu czar, cyber-security czar, faith-based czar, etc...why weren't you holding speeches at the capitol during his administration.
Heck id give up my left arm to live with just half of the government we currently have. Take it, please...
They've been doing construction on our roads for over 10 years. Do know the frustration of sitting in traffic due to construction for 10 years?
Id rather travel on gravel. Matter of fact one of my houses is on gravel all the way through the neighborhood, and you know what it works just fine.. Heck I dont have to repair my windshield 50x a year from semi's spitten rocks out.
I suggest you to sign a letter in which you, your family and HTWW, give up on ALL your PUBLIC SERVICES for life (medicare, madicaid, SS, ...) and only use PRIVATE SERVICES. So you can work your ass off with 4-5 jobs with no holidays and no services and ask grandma to help now that she lost medicare. The private sector will be so grateful you would like to sacrify yourself and give the CEOs of Cigna and Blue Cross to enjoy their $100m salaries and bonuses. They love you
why you should be like Europe were they have universal education and you have more doctors and nurses than requested while in the US there are no doctors and nurses (in Texas 114 out of 250 districts don't have neither doctors nor teachers)? Never give up on masochism.
why you should ONLY pay $250/year for education and $15 for an operation without insurance companies between you and your doctor, while you have the priviledge to pay $100,000 for your 19th position in education and at least $600/ month for health care + copayment, +$3000 for an ambulance + go bankrupt as soon as you get cancer? It's 60 years the insurance companies created the REAL DEATH PANELS not only for grandma, but also for daddy, mum and the kids and you love it
you are right you prefer to be a prostitute of the corporation and give 85% of your salary in taxes+premiums+ loans with zero services and zero holidays.
Why you should be like Europe (which by the way is not a country, so let's say like Norway which is #1 in the world in everything), why you should give up on your masochism and paying only taxes getting any service and 5-6 weeks holidays? How can you give up in being a masochist?
howtheworldworks gives a big thanks to his sock accounts... err... i mean subscribers!

I'm a medically disabled vet, and I don't use the VA, choosing to opt out of that program to not tie up funds against those who need those funds there more than I.
Thing is, there are people who need the VA far more than I do. Without the VA, there are a large number of Veterans who'd not receive any medical care/insurance whatsoever.
As for "guaranteed health insurance choices that Congress has", who's going to pay for it? The Vet who cannot work?
Bayu, you should perhaps do some research before spouting complete and utter nonsense; the U.S didn't enter the war until Pearl Harbor (Dec.7, 1941) & Lend-lease to the Soviets didn't start arriving in large quantities until late 1942, by which time Stalingrad had already broken the back of the German Army. Nice try, though.
Yeah. We'll be 'humanitarian' when we can bloody well afford it.
When upwards of 10% of your nation's workforce is unemployed... I wonder what the tax situation will look like. Especially considering that the unemployed are collecting unemployment benefits in greater numbers, further depleting the tax stores.

What liberties are being taken away?
That point always confuses me.
Bagpiper1603 2 years ago
No you are assuming incorrectly, Healthcare is a small issue, I want My President, and my Congress, and the Supreme Court to govern within the confines of the Constitution . If not I will do as the Constitution directs and replace them, by any means necessary.
Healthcare is clearly a States issue.
James92802 2 years ago
If the Government only did exactly what the constitution said it could, slavery would probably still be protected.
If the government is too big, that is bad.
If the government is too small, that is bad.
I don't think it is a state issue if it affects the entire nation, though that could be where the disagreement lies
Bagpiper1603 2 years ago
No Slavery is and aways was in direct opposition to the Constitution. Men have the right to life and liberty and the product of there work. Once blacks were deemed human (BTW it was clearly a crime against humanity to say different) it became a FEDERAL not a State issue.
Healthcare is not a Federal issue, and can not be made into one.
Same way as Education is a State Issue, BUT they do it anyway. EoE is clearly unconstitutional.
James92802 2 years ago
EoE?
But the problem with individual states running education could be a gross variation in standards and qualifications of students based on where they live, which COULD be damaging.
Of course, (with the exception of Cali :p) I'm sure some (or most) states could provide better financial support.
Bagpiper1603 2 years ago
EOE is a typo, sorry DoE...
Your "problem is a strength, when the individual states have to compete against each other you will always have a best and a worst. The only intervention should be for the President to call out the worst and praise the best. If the DOE is in charge they can (and do) set the standard low.
James92802 2 years ago
How 'bout a middle ground?
The states are in charge of setting standards and such (which I thought they did, but I could be mistaken) and if they slip or there are severe problems, some outside agency steps in.
Mebbe?
Bagpiper1603 2 years ago
@Bagpiper1603: & neuro369:
James92802 2 years ago
I'm no expert, at all, and I couldn't name the ammendments off the top of my head :P
My interpretation was that the constitution was written more to protect state governments, and to adapt with the flow of time (thus be somewhat changing).
I don't think I based any of my opinions in constitutionality either though, more on what is actually going on, and what system would be best/more effective, regardless of how constitutional (not saying disregard it of course)
Bagpiper1603 2 years ago
Changing or adding to the Constitution is (intentionality) not an easy thing to do.
As far as how effective a thing (just as with the example of education) if you have 50 different States trying different approaches to the same problem the best will serve as an example to the worst.
Again this gives the President the very powerful position of being able to call out the worst and praise the best.
The division of powers is one of the most important things the fathers accomplished.
James92802 2 years ago
K, so what are we disagreeing about?
Bagpiper1603 2 years ago
When you say "Obama's Healthcare plan" to what plan are you referring?
James92802 2 years ago
The plan to have a government run, not-for-profit, but self sustaining healthcare agency(right word?), and to impose restrictions and standards upon the healthcare companies so they don't abuse their clients.
Bagpiper1603 2 years ago
Can you please send me that plan so I can read what he has in mind?
Would it be okay with you to (as the Constitution dictates) we leave this power/issue with the states and not the Federal government?
James92802 2 years ago
If the states could handle it, then by all means.
I don't care where the power of the government lies, so long as it is used responsibly and effectively.
That rules out certain forms of power-holding right off the bat.
Bagpiper1603 2 years ago
Well maybe the fathers, had the for site to see that many local governments would make government more local and accessible to the people.
Having an all powerful government off in the land of oz is not what they had in mind.
James92802 2 years ago
I agree that a powerful government is useless if it is detached so far from the people (not geographically so much as in terms of policy and ideals).
I think the problem is with Senate, Congress, AND the White house, not just one. I may have been misinterpreting your point of view :)
Those local governments would also have to be able to work very well together if we were to be a strong nation.
The thing about political systems, is that human nature invariably fucks them up :(

As a conservative I never liked McCain, he is too much like Bush not enough like Reagan.
BUT, one subject were McCain is unequivocally qualified to speak is torture.
He and a few other POW's should have been consulted about torture. If they said waterboarding was/is wrong then thats as much as I need to know.
Bush was wrong, and all he had to do was ask past poor souls like McCain, where the line was.
If you want Americans to torture people, then you are the extreme right.
James92802 2 years ago
Agree with that. I prefer Obama's solution. Blow up the towelheads & their families with Predator drones. Too bad we don't have space based lasers. We could blast them to Kingdom come with a computer keystroke. One man's torture is another man's discomfort.
Me personally I would be cutting their fingers off with garden shears. Watch Sharky's Machine to see an example. We now have a coward in charge of National Security.

Divided we fall.
James92802 2 years ago
There is something you should realize, I'm not an American I am from Canada we don't have a 2 party system so our views of what are extreme left and extreme right probably differ greatly.
I agree though you guys need to start working together to weed out the extremist so you can get to the real issue's instead of clogging up massive amounts of network news time with racism and stupidity that makes your country look so bad right now.

James92802 2 years ago
first of all you are making the mistake that most people do.
ThePeacefulAtheist 2 years ago
Atheists tend to exaggerate there numbers by including Agnostics.
In fact they openly try to tell us agnostics that we are "really" atheist.
Anyone that categorically discounts the plausibility of a force from outside the known universe could be responsible for the Universe is not using scientific method.
Atheist dogma is not scientific it is an emotional response, fear is the most common emotion, but you are correct, anger and hate are also available. Scientific Method is not available.

Or are you running away still asserting that Atheism is the clear result of Scientific Method?
I'm clearly asserting the Agnostic, assertion that not knowing about God, fits perfectly into Scientific Method.
Come on, make your point... Show us all how smart you are. I'm more then willing to back down if you can only prove your point.
At least try and discredit something I said.
James92802 2 years ago
Atheism and agnosticism are completely different.
You can be a agnostic atheist, gnostic atheist, agnostic theisr, gnostic theist.
