I just want to add that since NBC Universal took over USA Network things have taken a real turn for the worse. There may be a few original shows, but most of their stuff now is reruns of NBC programs. When they lost the US Open the ceased being a premier cable channel.
Wow I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that loved this catchy instrumental. I actually had taped the outro (very long version) usually used when they rolled the credits either on the last day or the day before last of coverage. Unfortunately I lost it along the way, If anyone has taped coverage of the outro long version please upload it here!
USA coverage had a certain quality that made you feel a part of the event.
USA network coverage of the Open over the years will be missed because they gave you all the tennis day and into the night. ESPN has so much sports what with football, baseball and other sports tennis will not be a priority. I liked the US Open on the USA Network, its going to be missed. Thanks for the memories.
Just to let you know. It was essentially USA network's call to have no more tennis. They want to have more nights to show more of their original shows, or something like that, essentially ending their relationship with sports, such as when they showed golf.
This was such a great theme song. USA Network's coverage of the US Open was always outstanding and it was sad and disappointing to learn that 2008 would be the last year on USA. Things will not be the same on ESPN. While I do like that ESPN added John McEnroe to their team, the absence of Ted Robinson and this great theme song will take away a little bit from the coverage. ESPN did have good theme music to their tennis coverage, but the new theme debuted for Aus. Open 2009 is not very good.
Ted Robinson actually may still be doing the US Open, but it would only be with the Tennis Channel, which essentially is the leftovers of ESPN's coverage. The Tennis Channel will be doing the night sessions on the middle Saturday and Sunday and also a few hours a day of main coverage before ESPN goes on the air. Besides that, they will be relegated to covering action on the outer courts. I do assume Ted will be at the mike for the Tennis Channel, but it will definitely not be the same.
i don't get the tennis channel, i miss the us open's all blue court, and i'll miss the usa's theme song and ted robinson on usa/espn... i really don't like change lol
Yep, this theme song for this event is SOO electrifying and bloody exciting to listen. I remembered going to the US open many times and I still get excited even tday everytime I hear this....OOOHHH, its Summer US open Tennis time!"
this theme is so awesome. They still use it in different forms but USA is no longer going to be carrying the US open so hopefully thell keep this theme
You are my hero for posting this.... I always wanted this music and wanted to know the song name or where to get it. Much better than the current theme. HOWEVER, you cut the song short and left out my favorite part of the song :( Its where its a violin solo I believe with a little trumpet background
anyone know the song they played when it was like commercial time and it showed like murray and federer and nadal and djokovic withthe music that went , "DONT STOP OH OH OH OH" and it had synthesizer voice to it
I was there today for the 1st day of the qualies. But this brings back alot of exciting memories. Next year,of course USA network will no longer be covering the US Open as the Tennis Channel obtained the contract to carry the coverage indefinitely. New era in tennis coverage!
I miss USA.

I miss USA's coverage of the Open. ESPN is OK, but USA had a great tradition going.

why did USA network cede coverage to begin with anyways?
gargarensi 2 years ago
ESPN outbid them for the broadcasting rights.
Karnaevale 2 years ago
@gargarensi USA Network simply decided they did not want to broadcast sports anymore, instead focusing on their "Characters Welcome" programming.

I prefer the elegant NBC Wimbledon theme but this is good too. I love the Connors double fist pump at 0:23

Coud someone post the HBO Wimbledon theme? That was so good...just like this USA US Open theme -- both are missed.
