Regarding question 4), I read where Capcom said that both Mike and Balrog are "probably one and the same." LOL, "Probably." So it doesn't seem that even they're 100% sure, either. I'm certain they're two completely different characters because the two fighters seen in the intro of Street Fighter II are Mike and Joe. And when Balrog comes on the scene, you'll see that the two boxers look entirely different—that haircut of Balrog's, to say the least, stands out.

I vividly remember when this game came out. There was nothing like it, but it was insanely difficult. I never saw anyone beat it...maybe there is truth to what others are saying about difficulty settings.

Special moves were impossible to pull off. Instead of buttons, it had 1 (maybe 2?) "punch pads" that you hit with your fist. The machine stated that the harder you hit the pads...the more damage inflicted! So you basically had guys beating the living hell out of the machine...lol. Thanks!

I actually own the arcade machine of this game and it runs so much smoother than this and all the other emulator versions uploaded. Even the music sounds distorted.

As far as the whole Mike character being related to Balrog, the original "Balrog" was supposed to be named Mike after Mike Tyson but they changed it for the US version to avoid any type of character license issues etc.

@ZombieVidzOfBlackOps - Totally agree. The controls sucked. I used to just wiggle the joystick hoping to hit the special move, you had a better chance than if you actually tried. I used to work at the arcade so I'd play for hours after work. I was the first one to reach Sagat but never beat him because of the stupid controls. Plus the difficulty setting were set high, unlike this video which is set at stupid easy.

It was still good for the time. But yeah SF2 kicked ass.

C'mon, this came out in 1987! I don't think there was anything like it or as good at the time. I used to play it all the time. Sure, the voices sucked and it was almost impossible to put together the special moves but it was good for the time.

This guy has his set to super easy. Arcades had it set to at least medium to keep you sinking quarters in to continue. It was NEVER this easy to knock the other player out so fast let alone pull off special moves when you wanted to.

in SF2 the haduken is down, left (or down, right depending on which way your facing) then any punch button right? well on SF1 you hold down any punch button, and then its down, left (or down, right depending on which way your facing) then release the punch button, same with uppercut! a lot of peeps thought it was way difficult to pull of these moves on SF1 but capcom I guess didnt tell us that lol! I learned this like several yrs ago!

Mike Tyson was in the original Japanese version named M. Bison. And Vega's name was Balrog and M. Bison's name was Vega.

In US version they changed them to avoid lawsuits. So M. Bison > Balrog, Balrog > Vega and Vega > M. Bison.
