I feel for Pete and his loathing of B.N.D. I gave A.Spider-man nine issues after B.N.D. and wound up canceling it. I just can't enjoy a book named Spider-man if it doesn't star Spider-man. The guy they have running around now is not the Peter Parker we've loved and cared about, he's a bad story plot masquerading as a comic book. I feel dirty every time I see this bastardized version of Spider-man sitting on the shelf in my comic shop.

Alex, can't believe you didn't like Rebels, I bought it just for the art, and was really surprised by how fun it is. I have no clue what L.e.g.i.o.n. is, or how its different from LSH, but it didn't bother me at all.

Pete, totally sympathize w/ you on ASM. Still can't let it go, not just for the marriage thing, but for some other stuff, like Daredevil, Venom, and especially Green Goblin not knowing Peter's secret id. Saw what you will about the marriage, but the mutual knowledge of secret id's b/w Norman and Peter is what made their relationship so personal. Now, Norman just feels like a generic villain, who's motivation for hating Spider-Man I really don't understand.

Hey how about the new issue of Batman Confidential? That was seriously one of the best Batman books in years. The art was spectacular, and the story was a classic Batman detective story with a cool villain.

So now I know where Peter SHOULD be in terms of his personal life, but they decided to change it, and in doing so, changed the entire course of where the storyline was going with a lame, convenient excuse.

It's like on a television show where they kill off a main character and then at the end they reveal it was all just a dream... It's lame, and it ruins the urgency of the storyline, knowing that anything they do can just be undone.

i don't understand pete...you don't want the spider-totem, osborn/stacy lovechild, happily married spider-man back, yet you're unwilling to fully enjoy spider-man as it is now (the best it's ever been since i started collecting the book) because of a retcon? retcons happen all the time! and despite the furore, this one is relatively minor - it's basically spider-man exactly the way it's supposed to be, want more could you want?

yeah but that particular retcon was fucking ridiculous in every conceivable way. It made no sense and furthermore, undermined everything they'd done with Peter Parker up until that point. Plus, their explanation in comic was a huge copout. I can udnerstand why it sort of ruins what's come out since, even if it is better now than it was before.

but whatever we consider to be ridiculous about it is over...by its very nature a retcon is self-contained, they don't keep retconning every issue. the ridiculousness is over and done with.

i can't think of anything specific that had been achieved with peter that they ruined, and it's all basically all in continuity anyways, so what exactly do you feel it undermined? not trying to be contentious, i'm curious. i mean, it was 4 bad issues 41 good issues ago

I have to agree. If guys bitches this much about a girl that left them, everybody would just say STFU already. But since it's comics it gets brought up all the time even after the company has clearly made up its mind and has since long moved on.

Well they killed off Aunt May and Mary Jane, and then decided it was a bad idea and retconned it. If they were going to retcon it then they shouldn't have taken the risk. What they did was an attempt to make Peter a character whom had lost his entire familial support system, a change that would have drastically altered the kind of person Peter was.... But instead they just fixed it with "magic."

Yeah, it was stupid, but it happened. Spider-man right now is the best it has ever been. It is in the past, why hate it now when it is good?

The 3-4 years leading up to Brand New Day were bullshit in itself, at least we are clear of the crapfest that Spider-man has been.
