@zuantuba The 5D MKii is an awesome full frame DSLR with some of the best glass out there. However many cinematographers are more than likely to go for the NEX-VG10 due to the fact that it won't overheat like most DSLRs do. Moreover, you won't have to invest on any external mics, seeing the one already attached outperforms the mic from the MKii.

@maxaxelpro go to the you tube channel for user itsmowtime. The videos from this year are racing videos shot mostly with a NEX-VG10. You will know the NEX shots as the video is so superior to the other Sony HD camera shots.

@dustindmarks The VG20 provide 1080p at 24fps, 30fps, and 60fps. you can find the spec at sony website.. it is a big improvement to VG10 which only does 1080i. For now, I am not sure if I will purchase VG20 because Canon got new camcorder coming this Nov. or next year, it will be answer to VG20 maybe.

It had not been reveal yet, you have to wait til November 3rd. I think it will be two different models, one for EF camcorder and other for PL camcorder, I think it will cost over $6k or $10k. I don't know the whole spec yet I will update when I get more information.

I've started using DSLR's - notably Lumix GH1 (hacked). I wasn't keen on this to begin with because I'm used to using a video camera. After a while, using the DSLR becomes second nature and on the plus side you always have a stills camera at hand! It will be interesting to see how manufacturers respond to the recent upsurge in DSLR video film making. I like the look of the VG10 though - nice!

@alanstarkie2001 Video on “still” cameras is nothing but marketing. That is strictly a “amateur” option. If you are shooting video you should use a video camera. If you want stills, then use a still camera. Yes it’s nice to have the still option on a video camera, however why would a pro need that option? They don’t.

If you are not a pro, and want something compact to do both; then select the one that is strongest in what you will do most (still or video).

Great Cammera.. Great Demo !! My only problem so far is that I notice it smells hot after about 30 minutes of use. Great video quality though. Check out my page. The "Land Before Time" music video is my first production with this cammera. It's done with green screen. Let me know what you think.

To be fair, the lack of 24P probably has to do with the fact that this cam has a completely new type of sensor, and it would have required much more R & D time, thus delaying release (keeping in mind it's aimed at the consumer market) / 24p may not be an ingredient you just throw into the mix of any camera.

This camera has a much bigger sensor than their professional models. Though, I guess news cameraman aren't looking for a cinematic look. The price of this camera is very good when you consider how much bigger the sensor is to any other video camcorder. Bigger sensor means better depth of field control and cleaner low light images. Why spend $1100 on their little 1/2" chip camcorders when you can spend a bit more for this camcorder and the image quality will be 100x greater.

@yewutube Apparently (according to a colleague who uses the 5DMKII) DSLRs can only record up to 12 minutes at one time before it is classified in a different category of camera. This is to push the line of HD camcorders with tiny optics and sensors. When shooting multicam events it would be nice to have something with a larger sensor that allows to shoot for 3 or 4 hours non-stop.

I just bought a canon pocket digital camera (sx210) with a 14x zoom lens that also shoots video, and the quality is just as good as the canon camcorder that I purchased a few months ago. The only advantage the camcorder has is (perhaps) the slightly faster focusing and maybe better audio, but really, its just consumer grade stuff. Technologies are really blurring together right now. Its a fun time. ;^)

Bought this camcorder recently. It seems really great so far; video is about as good as it gets at this price range, and it takes ordinary SD cards. Only real complaint is that it doesn't have an XLR port, only the mini ports you get on laptops, but that can be solved with a $20 adapter if need be. Even the built-in mic is pretty good.

just a few complaints about the firmware. The user interface is unfriendly and opaque, there are no zebras, no focus assist, and no overexposure warning. Also there is no XLR jack.
