  • I don't know who the fuck the dream academy is, but Johnny Marr could always write a good melody.

  • @damienmetalwind One hit wonder from the eighties "Life in a Northern Town" was their only big hit

  • surrealistic

  • Oh my God! I first watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off and first started listening to The Smiths at about the same time in my life, but I never made the connection between the music of the museum scene and the song by The Smiths.

This is very exciting for me. :D

  • I was 3 years old when ferris bueller came out and I've been watching it ever since! I actually know every word to this movie and when I used to take a sicky at school I used to watch this, even now if I call in "sick" to work I watch it, just to enjoy a day off even more!

  • Just heard this song on the John Lewis advert (UK).

Remembered it being a Smiths song but had totally forgotten it was in Ferris Beullers Day Off.

    A beautiful version!

  • Watching the move right now

  • Awesome - just awesome :D

  • Big resurgence in interest in this track coming in the UK after John Lewis have lifted it for their Xmas ad. Will be amazed if the softened female vocal version isn't in the top 10 soon.

  • The Smiths.

  • @sauskelove i would like to find that version

  • Awesome version to a really good song. But, i will admit I fell in love with this version when i was a kid. I just love instrumental pieces like this.

  • no matter what the youtube video, all the comments are arguments. people suck sometimes.

  • This may not be as great as The Smiths original... but it is still OUT OF THIS WORLD

  • awesome

  • Family Guy is genius

  • thumbs up for family guy version

  • @theflynnboy1 How about thumbs down for a brain dead tv show watched by morons?

  • @Vennegoor10 Family Guy is the funniest T.V show ever created.

  • @RealDougal Family Guy is lazily-written, plagiarising pish for dolts

  • @Vennegoor10 If that's the case, then all those hilarious episodes and moments might as well not exist, eh? Seriously, I do not understand some people... if it was bad writing, it wouldn't be so funny, would it? And you have no need to answer that, because it's rhetorical.

  • @RealDougal I'm impressed a Family Guy fan knows what rhetorical means, kudos.

  • @Vennegoor10 Yes - that's because Family Guy fans aren't all as stupid as you think. In fact, you even voicing that opinion is stereotypical to a group of people for no reason whatsoever. It's like discriminating against a certain ethnicity because you dislike anybody different to you. On an unrelated note, I plan to be an author in the future, so please don't waste your time trying to catch me out with anything. It'll only be embarrassing for you.

  • @RealDougal Dear God, what a deluded, self-absorbed person you are.

  • @Vennegoor10 Firstly - God doesn't exist. Secondly - I am neither of those things. Thirdly - just fuck off. Seriously. Your words mean nothing.

  • @RealDougal Agree on point one. Point two - QED. Point three - language, Timothy. Point four - yet you reply?

  • @Vennegoor10 Don't talk to me about language. I can say whatever I want to. I only keep replying because you do - I'm the one that just told YOU to stop replying, not the other way around. So, from this point forth, if you don't reply, I won't reply. Get it?

  • @RealDougal I do get it; very lucidly explained. There's a writer in there somewhere.

  • @Vennegoor10 I'll take that as a compliment, so, thank you.

  • @RealDougal "I can say whatever I want to."

    Please read the ToS.

  • @Ryoukun16 Relevance?

  • @RealDougal You may think you can say anything, but I'm sure YouTube and their lawyers say otherwise.

  • Esta musica me dá vontade de chorar, lembro da minha infancia.... Saudades.

  • I'm only 13 and love this theme + movie

  • :)

  • o melhor filme da historia

  • i'm out of words to describe this beautiful and nostalgic tune

  • @JesusHamSandwhiches your name gives me a smile lmao

  • I love the note that plays at the nine second mark in the very beginning. It's like a key in minor, I'm not a musician so I can't talk about the specifics. But it clashes a tiny bit but sounds really good.

  • <3 too beautiful.

  • Amazing how one can song can bring so many people together.

  • amazing track, awsome, quote ferris he dosent drive it he just wipes it with a diaper

  • Absolutely the most beautiful instramental i have ever listened to

  • the flute player sounds drunk

  • This song is so beautiful and relaxing.

  • Im watching Ferris Bueller at this exact moment, and the museum scene came on. I just had to look this song up, it is simply amazing and unexplainable why we love it so much.

    Cheers

  • @TechnoViking690 dude.. i'm watching it now too and the art gallery scene led me here... being a Smiths fan.

  • @RiceBowlFactory Thats Crazy how we all got here

  • @TechnoViking690 Same here!

  • I didnt get what i want.......

  • this is such a beautiful song , and i love this part of the movie !!!

  • i love this cover and its part in the movie, plus the fact that it's based off of a Smiths song. great stuff, and it's awesome that you uploaded it.

however, matthew broderick's gaze started to frighten me after a while, i have to say, hahahaha

  • @blahblahboyee It's not Matthew Broderick who's staring at the painting; it's Alan Ruck.

  • @blahblahboyee I suppose you're talking about the album cover displayed here, though.

  • @Symmetriq Ah, my bad, I don't think I was being clear enough. I was saying I liked the cover song by The Dream Academy. I only commented about the album cover for poking fun at Matthew Broderick. Again, my bad for not being too clear

  • iLOVE this part of the movie when theyre at the art museum

  • Could listen to this all day - absolutely beautiful. Thanks be to Orchestrazia Ardwick. :)

  • Linda música. Filme inesquecível. Anos 80 com orgulho aqui!

  • real beautiful music

  • they used to play this as filler music on the Weather Channel...

  • @metlife247 awesome lol sounds like somethin they'd play

  • I liked Family Guys little sound-a-like to this song! it was kind of catchy!!

  • kinda sad

  • This song mixes your emotions all up.

  • @JesusHamSandwhiches Firstly i must say that i do love this peice of music and love this scene in the movie. It makes me very sad everytime i listen to it. But i must say that your comment is a bit strange, as do any of us evr get what we want when all is said and done. When it comes down to the bare bones of human existence we are all sad and lonely people who sometimes dont get what we want. The most strange thing i find about your comment is that 28 likes... huh?

  • Thank you ferris bueller for giving all us kids of the 80s hope of fun and adventure

  • I used this as the backing for my wedding video montage - beautiful.

  • Ferris was the coolest sciver off school ever!....well he was nearly as good as me and I still got a 2-1 degree hahaha!!!! And won top student in the university in engineering....How on earth did i do that!!!! Magic....just like Ferris Bueller.

  • @thomashandley Certainly not from being humble!

  • I knew it! I thought it sounded familiar!

  • i freakin luv dis song!!!!

  • Did u not have a good time in high school

  • I envy the people who enjoyed their high school years.

  • @Dilaltastic you might not have then, but years from now you might say you actually did. IDK.

  • @Dilaltastic

In the honesty that comes with age I've realized that the bad times that I had in high school were caused ny me, and me alone. I now try to remember the good times that my somewhat defective being didn't fuck up.

  • @Dilaltastic it was more fon in 1975-1979.

  • I so wanna be best friends with Ferris Bueller. Can you IMAGINE the stories you'd have to tell everyone?

  • this song is so nostalgic...

  • The Smiths song is nothing like the Dream Academys version although both great tunes;

  • im gonna have this played at my funeral one day.

  • @RayRoark2009 : Yeah man. Good choice!

  • @Cardiff67235 thanks man

  • @RayRoark2009 choose the original version by The Smiths.

  • @godlesswickedvanian : Nah this is an instrumental cover version. I'd advise this.

  • @Cardiff67235 that's basically what I was saying.

    "Original version= The Smiths"

  • @godlesswickedvanian : Good advice

  • omg I love this

  • at 1:57 ferris and sloane kiss :) i love this movie

  • @claustrophobicbeast Now that's what I call a movie lover. Lovin' it

  • Is this an instrumental cover for the The Smith's song? or did this come before the smiths?

  • @TylerConlinTV The Smiths were first :)

  • @TylerConlinTV This was a instrumental cover.

  • um it isn't the scene from the museum its from the art gallery OMG GET IT RIGHT sheesh :3

  • Is there a version of this song with lyrics, I have a memory that there is? Thank you.

  • @thenodfather yea it is its a video 2

  • @JesusHamSandwhiches : Or just think it's crap?

  • There is such an enchanting & ethereal quality & sound to this Dream Academy instrumental that I feel thoroughly relaxed, serene & lost in deep, pleasant reverie. Very magical indeed! For the melody to this soulful & moving instrumental is wonderfully graceful & beautifully consistent, as it has this profoundly soothing effect upon me, thus rendering me smoothly enraptured!

  • @sxlfkta its a bittersweet tune.

  • I KNEW IT WAS THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes this was the museum scene in Ferris. John Hughes was a big Dream Academy fan. He used "Edge of Forever" in Ferris as well. Towards the end when Ferris is saying goodbye to Slone and she says, "He's gonna marry me." Hughes also used the Dream Academy's song "Power to Believe" in "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles". Its the background music after Neil (Steve Martin) is riding on the train alone to get home and he puts together that Dell (John Candy) doesn't have a family. Hughes Ruled 80s

  • the painting Cameron is looking at is Sunday Afternoon at the Isle of Le Grand Jette

by Edgar Degas and is known as pointillism FYI all you Ferris fans if I'm not mistaken

  • @bowl12xs Yes it is. The artist that started pointilism (forget the name) actually went blind from creating his artwork.

  • @bowl12xs you're correct of the title, but it's actually by georges seurat not degas.

  • this brings memories flooding back:)

  • This cover is amazing

  • I thought it's the Smiths that sang this song... not the Dream Academy?

  • @gfilip1 This is a cover of The Smiths original.

  • @gfilip1 this is an OK but IMHO inferior a cover of the Smiths

  • Thanks for sharing this track.

  • the song plays when ferris bueller tries to seduce you..

  • @JesusHamSandwhiches hahaha...thumbs up

  • I have been searching for this longer version (and any instrumental version) of this song for over 15 years! Thank you so much for posting!!

  • @NocturnalAngel77 me too...still can't find it...even looked at rare cd sites...arrrggghhhhh

  • @brimus5 You can put this on iTunes! Go to vidtomp3 (dot) com. Press the share button on here so you can get the link for the video and copy it. To go the site I just gave you and put it in the box next to the "submit" button. Make sure you have high quality checked then hit submit and wait until it finishes. When it's done, click the "download mp3" link and then again (I have no idea why it pops up twice) and then open it with iTunes. It will be in recently added/played folder. :-)

  • @brimus5 Sorry it's a "download" button, not submit on the first page. You also have to scroll down about halfway to get to it. Just make sure it's checked under high quality or it sounds terrible!

It's legal as well so nothing to feel guilty about! lol

  • @NocturnalAngel77 that worked like a charm...thanks so much for that...

  • @brimus5 You are most welcome. Glad to help! :-)

  • Dream Academy covers my favorite version of this song, I also like this version as well.

  • Haha, they played this song at the london,ky harvest festival last year.

  • i love the film, hilarious watched it abillion times and still

    can:t get enough of it

    don't know which character

    is my favourite

  • Love

  • The angels themselves couldn't write a prettier piece of music.

  • Every time I go to the Art Institute, this song plays in my head

  • It's '80s music not 80's. For the last time: An apostrophe is used in English to indicate possession. It is used in contractions, such as can't from cannot.

  • Most of all : that is originally a song with lyrics from Paul Morrissey and The Smith you know !!... Beautiful song called Please please Please Let Me Get What I Want... Check it out on YouTube, you'll see it is beautiful with sung lyric as well !...

  • @meekintheweb You mean Steven (not Paul) Morrissey.

  • People says 80's music was bad but when you hear songs like this you have to disagree, 80's music was amazing!

  • @runforitscooby i know its like the best music ive ever heard... i think everything after like 95-97 got ridiculous

  • When Cameron is staring at the little girl's face in the picture, I piss myself laughing

  • @jackwuzhear really? i feel sad when that part happens

  • @jackwuzhear omg so do i its fucking hysterical - i cannot get tired of this movie!!!!

  • @jackwuzhear lmfao that scene is showing the relationship between cameron and his mom, he's staring at it because he never had that with his mom... as he looks closer he can't see the face anymore showing that he had no relationship with his mom ^_^

  • @lazyliam95 John Hughes also added in one of the dvd commentaries that the pointillist style means that any actual picture disappears when you view it up close. Up close it's just dots and nothing meaningful is there.

That's what frightened Cameron. Along with the parental image he never had, he worries that the more closely people examine him, the less they will find. He thinks that if people examine him in detail, they'll find nothing.

  • @tf2whackyengineer Wow. What a great mental conception of character. I never thought of it that way. Now, when I watch the movie again, I will definitely open my eyes to that part in that famous museum in the great city I live it. I've seen these pictures up close in the eighties.

  • @jackwuzhear lol yeah xD

  • Hi aj

  • Dang, I miss high school. B)

  • @tjsbigidea= I don't. I went in the Nineties, which were a terrible time to be in high school. The happiest day for me, was when I finally walked out that door for the final time. I'm glad you had fun though.

  • I would love to find this song and use it in a video I am making for my nephew. Where can I find it? I have looked all over including on rhapsody.

  • @disnygrl47 Use video2mp3 and download it.

  • Such brilliance to use an instrumental version of this song. The theme conveyed by the scene is anything but subtle, but the lack of vocals here amplified it's power. Brilliant song, brilliant cover, brilliant scene, brilliant movie, brilliant man. Thank you Hughes.

  • Comment removed

  • Both versions are fantastic, the song is perfect either way.

  • Why didn't they play The Smiths version!? Lol

  • @23MIKE95 Because this film is called "popular kid does what he wants"! Or wait...

  • I understand why they made this an instrumental only.

  • i could listen to this all day.

  • One minute they're here, the next, they're gone forever. RIP John Hughes.

  • Comment removed

  • i wish this and the smiths version would be merged together as in the length of time of this but with the smiths song.

or the same as above but with this music instead...

  • best version of this song xD

  • @fierfly25 are you daft? the smiths original version of this song is the only true version of the song and by far better than this one. to say different just shows a distinct lack in musictaste and knowledge of what youre on about

  • @Distance007 lmao I LOVE the smiths version I just prefer this one cause I prefer the musicality. Like I give the Smiths one a 9.5 but this one gets a 10 lol no need to get all mad at me xD

  • @fierfly25 i agree! also, this is slightly better because its longer too. i have to play the smiths version at least 3 times...

  • @fierfly25 and i love this film as well, one of my favs.

  • @Distance007

Liking this more than the original by The Smiths shows a "distinct lack of music taste"? What?

I prefer the original myself, but you need to learn what music taste is before you say something like that. Liking this cover more is exactly what music taste is. If you still don't understand that, think of it this way - music taste is liking something different. Without the various different versions of this or any song, there is no music taste because it would all be the same.

  • @Distance007 music would be very boring if everybody's opinion was the same

  • I love Ferris!! =D

  • This song for some odd reason reminds me of the Deans Milk Commercial.

  • This song comes on the local on the 8's on the weather channel sometimes.

  • @RayRoark2009 yeah, I heard it on TWC and had to come here to look it up and give it a another listen. :-)

  • Hey, do you have a download link for this? I REALLLLLLY want this on my iPod but I can't find it anywhere. Please help, amazing song, great moviee!

  • @ALW4YS3MILY they have it on Lime Wire! Hope this helps

  • @ALW4YS3MILY you can get this tune on a cd called boutique chic available at amazon or a bootleg ferris soundtrack from ioffer hope this helps

  • Beautiful... 80s movies rule... rip john hughes!

  • Ferris Bueller you're my hero

  • SAVE FERRIS!!!!!!!

lol this has been my childhood movie like all my life!!!

it's totally the best rest in peace john hughes.

    <33

  • 7 dislikes!? this song and scene should have no thumbs down!
