The world isnt overpopulated. There's enough space for all 6 billion ppl. But AREAS are overpopulated causing the lack of resources in one given place. People who care about these issues must unite and form plans for the good of the country. We are so industrialized and technological yet we dont try enough to solve issues that desperately need fixing. ALL ISSUES affect ALL PEOPLE... nothing is divided. Separation is only an illusion, nothing is fully disconnected.
I am really looking to make a difference. I want to leave this place better for my children and it is not looking like that is going to happen if we don't stand up to the rich lobbiests in the government setting. We need to stand up for ourselves and our children. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer and it is time to stand up for those who can not stand up for themselves. Mothers are a large group of the US population. We have the power - let's embrase it!
I believe the world is overpopulated, too, but I'm not going to practice population reduction by burning the kids and families. Women need to have easy access to birth control and we need to get over this fad of having big families. That said, yes, the children are our future. We need to protect, educate and care for our children. They will be wiping your butt when you are old and competing on the world labor market. You just want to creat canon fodder for the war machine? arent we civilized, yet?
I can not believe the unwillingness of people to help out other people in need. It is absolutely appalling to read some of these comments and hear the selfish attitude coming through. Nobody gets to where they are without some help at some point in their lives. The world would be a better place if people would just look around at each other and work together.
If we don't wake up soon, we won't have a country. No matter what you think about various issues the truth is that our country is failing. It's failing the people who pay taxes & worse still future generations. We are borrowing to create a democracy in Iraq & our national debt grows. The line between the rich & the poor growing larger every day & eventually there will be a revolt that will make the French Revolution look like a cake walk. Less then 32% of us vote. Wake up America.
I agree with you 100%. Mom's need to unite and stand up for our future generations or they are going to really have a rough life. Mom's let's wake up and unite and make a difference!
You are missing the point! It's not about mothers, or fathers and how self righteous and important that is. It's about kids! And why should we care - well go watch animal planet - see how other mammals care for their youngs. WHY SHOULD WE DO LESS? Aren't we HUMAN?
What are bunch of hypocrites we have here!I gather you people never were children and never had a mommy (and a daddy for that matter- preferable not working 90 hours per week)? Sure, why should we care about families, when we could subsidize corporations? ake up people! If you had a good childhood-you owe as much to future kids (whether or not you decide to have children is irrelevent). If you had horrible childhood-then you know the price- would you willingly inflict it on another human being?
I have no idea what you're talking about Alice - what does having a good or bad childhood have to do with this?
I owe nothing - the taxes I pay every month pays for parents' benefits - which in reality they shouldn't be getting. If someone can't afford to look after their own children, they shouldn't have them. Oh,and my taxes also pay for the education of other people's kids. I have no choice in any of this. Is that fair?
I think you missed the other poster's point here - the world is OVER populated as it is. We do not need breeding to be encouraged by handouts, benefits and subsidies. If anything, you should be taxed.
The "world of the future" as you put it is actually the world of the present. Get over yourself.
Chris, being a parent is important but it's NOT the be all and end all, it's a life choice. Why should we subsidise parents constantly. Once again you can not have your cake and eat it at the expense of people who choose not to have children. I for one I'm fed up of carrying lazy mothers in the work place! In the UK the benefits which are given to parents especially single mothers is a disgrace.
What an ignorant response. I suggest you tell your mother she's "just a mother". No one is asking the government to raise our children. I suggest you watch the documentary before you post your stupid remarks.
Actually, I couldn't watch the entire video (I wouldn't call it a documentary as this would imply it's actually worth taking seriously) as I became too nauseous. But if it's not just a bunch of over indulged mothers bleating about wanting yet more rights and benefits, then maybe I did misunderstand it. I doubt it though. You might not agree with what I've said but my response certainly wasn't ignorant.
Oh dear another 'being a mother is the hardest job in the world' voter! I agree with my fellow poster and I would like to add as an employer, working mothers want everything their own way, leave early, come in late, produce less work than their co-workers, however they want to be paid the same with the same rights. I'm sorry but I for one I'm fed up of carrying working mums, you give all females a bad name.
Suggestion: Gather some stuff from France, England, Germany, Ireland, Cuba, Canada about how motherhood policy matters are handled there.
There is at least one interview of France, I think, with Michael Moore in "Sicko" where the state even provides a nanny--who does the wash. Final shot, if you haven't seen Sicko, is of Moore's ample backside going up the Capitol steps, a bag of laundry in hand.
Yes it really does take a village!! Rock on! I am single mom feeling this acutely, and struggling not to drown in the overwhelming madness of trying to make it, without giving up my child, and i do not judge anyone who has.
The politicians of the US do not support an initiative like this because it would draw attention to too many other problems they have neglected. It is to the benefit of those in power to keep groups, like mothers and children, living below the poverty line and marginalized because it keeps someone oppressed. If women and children in poverty were not marginalized, they would compete for power in a male dominated society. They couldn't have that, could they...keep up the good fight- everyone!
I am a 28 year old woman and I am worried about the prospect of my future hubby and I to choose kids. I will choose not to have children if I am marginalized and can expect financial difficulties because we choose to have children. But the US is not the only place to live.

Why don't you work on that overpopulation problem by starting with yourself?

George, you are an idiot. Mothering IS. IMPORTANT. WORK. Without mothers, we would not have citizens to populate the world of the future.

So much truth here. Our society, for all the lip service paid toward 'family values,' fails to support women and children.

Children are our future; let's care for them and their caregivers now and support policy that does so in truth.
