  • This was a cool ad. Low key, yet edgy for the time. The car basically advertised itself. No annoying boisterous voice-overs.

  • My dad bought one of these new with the 5.0, and it was a really good car. He kept it almost 10 years.

  • Nice car, too bad the rear window was tiny compared to both the Thunderbird and Mark VII.

  • Owned one. 2 tone Silver/charcoal,spokes and a red pinstripe where the colors joined. Grey leather. 5.0 TPI. Not the fastest car but that car drove and rode like a dream. Very quiet, no feeling of bumps and smooth.Car had close to 180,000 miles on it when I got rid of it yet if you were a foot away while it was running you couldn't hear the engine. The oil was changed every 2500-3000 miles. With 1000's of miles on it the oil on the stick looked like melted butter. The hood ornament was Cool.

  • I like this car.

  • Was the Cougar XR7 still available in 1983?

  • cool styling ..not like today

  • i had an 84....even when it was 15 years old, everyone loved being in it. such an awesome car.

  • @sethmusic still have it?

  • @jakesaintsrow123 yeah...its in storage. havent driven it in years. i start it up every once in a while, just to hear how smooth it sounds. i still have friends asking me about it. its just stock. not an xr7. even though its not high horsepower, the torque from that 5.0 feels GOOOOOOOD. :)

  • Nice looking car, I bet they were really nice with a leather interior.

  • @JJ9715

I have a really nice '83 right now. it is white with red leather interior. they are pretty cool with the leather.

  • My mom used to have an 83 black/red interior Cougar LS, with the lil opera lights. That car was a headturner back then. I learned to drive in that car. lol :)

  • I like the look of this car. It's different.

  • This and the similar T-bird of this era were pretty nicely styled for the time they were new. Lexus SC line copied the door design in the 90s.

  • @texan176 I think ALL cars copied that door design, eventually. lol

  • Yeah, I bought a 1983 Mercury Cougar for $200, in 1994. Let's just say I got what I paid for.

  • 83 are the only years with the hood ornament.

  • I miss my 84 and 86 both had the 5.0s.For some reason the 84 had more get up and go then the 86. The 84 had throttle body injection the 86 was SFI.

  • Got rid of mine when it had 180,000 on the 5.0 The oil dipstick was still clean as a whistle.......................

  • why did you get rid of it??

  • I found a olds toronado trofeo that I wanted more....needed to sell cougar but in the end, I was happy with the olds. Both cars were born with a good engine.

    The cougar had the 5.0/302

    Olds had the 3.8 liter....soooo.
