  • yuck those headlights

  • too bad u sold her, big mistake

check mine out when u get the chance :)

  • Are those European headlights legal in US? Nice vid!

  • How much does it cost to maintain a 1985 MB 380SE? I was looking at one today with 93k miles for $3500. Other than a couple minor cracks in the dashboard it looks immaculate.

My big concern is total cost of ownership. Will I be able to take this car to any maintenance shop to get the fluids replace, or oil shop to replace the oil? Or will all of them say I need to take it to the dealer because it needs special equipment?

  • give me my 560 sec instead or my lexus sc400

  • Nice car man. What year did it become the turbo diesel, I think 82?

  • @IvyLeagueCars Yeah sound's about right.

  • @IvyLeagueCars 81 or 82.

  • Cool car bro, i have one pretty much similar

  • nice man! city cruiser ;)

  • Im looking at geting one of these, excelent condition, lots of chrome, all leather. 200k Miles though. You think $1,500 is a fair price?

  • @scamperscamper1 If there are no issues, i'd take it! Mine cost 1200 but it had a boatload of issues and 350k+ miles. Ended up selling for only 1k despite putting in over 2k trying to fix the darn thing. It was a good learning experience for me, though; learned alot about these cars.

Like I said, as long as there are no issues. These cars were built like tanks, but it depends on how you treat these things how long they would last (these should be million-and-a-half mile cars if taken care of!)

  • @scamperscamper1 I'd take MBTex over leather any day. 200k miles is nothing for these babies, and should last you hell of a long time.

  • i have a 1995 mercedes benz 300cd (coupe turbo diesel)

  • A Mercedes-Benz W123 Diesel - the most beautiful sight in the World and the sound of pure poetry.

God, I adore these cars more than life!

  • @EssexBoy696969 haha you adore in my country you can buy one for 399bucks i have one standing in my driveway;)

  • What a beauty!

  • GD...I've wanted a w123 300D to swap a 240d manual trans into for a long time.

  • dude, as a cameraman you'd probably starve to death!!!!!!!

  • that's why i'm a musician and not a cameraman :D

  • cool! lol

  • Sounds like you know your stuff. Which is good because of stupid American rules that dont dictate a mandatory annual test. You have a lot of dangerous bangers on your roads that would fail european MOT tests before they even got on the ramp. And what the hell are they thinking not having a law enforcing a minimum level of tyre tread? Good to see you enjoying an excellent Mercedes sir. Stay away from the crap they make at home.

  • Depends on the state in the U.S. Vehicle titling, registration, and inspection requirements are dictated by the laws of the state in which the vehicle is registered-- it's a reserved states' right under the 10th Amendment. Here in NY, for annual inspection there are requirements for tire tread. I'm not sure about other states as my license is in NY.

  • here in Texas, they do have an annual inspection, but they don't check your tires.

  • europe sucks quit tryin to be us

  • Texas forever. Lol. Hey, where did you get the European headlights conversion? I recently bought a 300SD and want the upgrade...

  • EBay :]

  • Outstanding! Oh and dont mind that shitbag "tommysbrowncaddy" He comments on all Merc videos w/ his shit. Waste of life.

  • I absolutely agree with you; he likes to piss people off ! Apparently, he gets a big kick of ot ! ;o). By the way, very nice car. I have a 1985 near mint; got to post a video in here !

  • thank you thank you. Ive since sold my 240D and upgraded to a 300SD. Ill have to post up on it!

  • @RayVal53 Should have just done an engine swap, nothing like a 240D with a 617 engine and a manual trans.

  • hey buddy do u know wat size speakers are on the doors and dash of a 85 380se?

  • sorry i'm not really sure.

all i know is that on my 300D, the rear speaker slots fit 8 inch speakers.

  • good car, if u turn the fuel pump up a little and raise boost they absolutely fly!

  • UR A/C WORKS?!?! my 300d is perfect except for the damn a/c

  • haha yeah my dad fixed my A/C

  • Whats the big deal about the A/C its just a G.M. compressor pull one off a Chevy pick up and your good to go. Me since i just have a 240d I removed the A/C I don't know why I would need it when I got a sunroof and windows I'd rather have economy and performance of the subtracted rotating weight. I would like to stick my 4speed behind a 300td engine and tune it up.

  • Nice Cadillac! What year is it?

  • o_o

its a 1985 mercedes-benz, as the title says.

not that i have a problem with caddys.

  • yes, it's a mercedes.

  • nope. it has the 3.0 liter mercedes turbo diesel :D

  • haha myne gets something like that.

i haven't ever seen a V8 caddy with that kind of fuel milage in my life o.o

  • yea rly!

  • actually I wouldn't doubt a caddy getting 40mpg on the long stretches because I had a 2000 Ford Crown Vic get 55mpg or better cruising at 45mph for a long stretch alot of uphills too its mostly about getting started on those big cars but that car was unsusually good considering at the time I was selling those cars it got 23mpg in town while the average one only got 20mpg at best and a EPA of 17mpg (what my aunt gets even when I get 20) It all depends on the driving and the individual car.

  • Me thinks "tommysbrowncaddy" is having some fun at your expense. Excellent Benz. I picked up a 300TD wagon about a year ago, and I spent about 6 months restoring it. Awesome vehicle.

  • haha it's pretty entertaining actually. i show my brother this stuff and he gets a laugh out of it too. we figured out that he is just messing with me and that he is an epic fail.

  • You should post a video of your 300TD ; I am a big fan ! I own a 300D but thinks eventually of getting a 300TD. Long life to all W123 diesels !

  • @unimogman404 ...who has a 300TD? cuz I don't.

  • @glokc19 Sorry, my mistake !

  • it`s the adimaral car from gta vice city

  • haha yeah and in san andreas too :D

  • Excellent car!! The Mercedes Benz W123 is probably the most emblematic model of MB´s vintage line-up. It´s a world-famous car, in the Middle East you´ll still see them round each corner. In Europe there is also a good deal of them in great condition...the new MB models won´t last so long. Too much electronics!

  • hay man superb ride. How did u add chrome paint on the rims?

  • the chrome rims were a stock option that mine happened to have. i'm not sure if they were changed at one point or they came with it, but i like them either way :D

  • man I cant wait...Im getting the exaact model. Exact color...Always wanted one...this is like my dream car...I sold my 2001 VW jetta 1.8T cuz I can only afford to own one car at time...but I wont regret this. YOu have a nice ride btw did u sell it?

  • nope

probably never gonna give this car up

    hopefully...

  • Good call.

  • i have an 86 and it has absolutly no power lol :P but i still love it ,... my first car

  • thats a nice one only how did you get a euopean version in the us

  • thanks!

    it's not a european model

i just put the european headlights so it looks euro :]

  • ywah dude dont by the 300sd. its a great car, i have one of them too. But for some reason the w123 is just more enjoyable. Only thing the s klassa has is power seats. Its bigger too, which is pretty cool, but the 300d just fits like a glove. Keep her

  • TY

my brother has a 300SD and i am kinda jealous, but the power seats are jacked up. Guess mechanical seats are more reliable. Also its hard to park a big S-Class, as i've heard.

  • it takes getting used to but you get the hang of it eventually. the hardest thing when parking my mom's 380SE is knowing where the end of the trunk is because even for a standard size 126, it's hard to judge where the back of the car is. I have to rely on the tail lights to know how close i am to something since the closer you get the brighter the light gets. It'd be nice if I had a backup camera though.

  • i hate reverse

  • uhh it accelerates after that, and what i wanted to capture was mainly the engine sound, and the body color, and the changed headlights.

  • yea lol i kno. car seems to be in nice shape, ohh and im glad the driver put their blinker on at the end.

  • lol force of habit ;]

  • That looks like the Houston area, is it?

  • lol yeah

i in da home of dat candy paint and purple drank :]

    ok i know im a loser :P

  • blue smoke in diesel term is that it is running rich.

  • Black smoke is rich.

White smoke is unburned diesel or water.

Blue... hopefully just poor video quality of a nice efficient grey haze.

  • it is :]

i ran it a few days ago and it was black for a few minutes, then it turned grey

  • just to let you know puffing blue smoke = valve adjustment...

i use to own 14 W123 and 5 w126 and they are all diesels, after all they one of the best ever made...Thx for the vid it brings me back memories.

  • yes i am aware of that :]

havn't been driving it much because of the engine not running smoothly. I plan to have the valves adjusted when i fix the exhaust leak (rmr its not straight piped lol)

  • puffing blue smoke is burning oil, as in bad rings

  • its a diesel smart one

the smoke would be more purply if it was burning oil

  • Yes it is a diesel smart one, and no, burning oil is not purple. Burning oil produces smoke with a bluish tinge

  • ok w/e ill just change my piston rings to be sure, in addition to my long term plans of adjusting the valves, changing the cylinder head gasket, and fixing the exhaust leak, which i havn't done any yet :\

  • And resleeve the block and bore it out

  • update: after the exhaust leak got fixed, the smoke was nice and gray. my mechanic's theory was that because of the catalyst being clogged (california models have cats, some of the exhaust went back into the intake(since they share headers). that happened again and again and when the smoke finally came out, either through the busted header gasket or out the pipe, it was really dark black (blue in color when the engine is cold)

  • I would kill to have a car like that, even with a Diesel. Hell, yeah, I would b/c it is the best around. As for the Euro headlights, they would look good on a classic Benz.

  • nice car dude, i have one , 230 e gas.. w123 was the last real mercedes, built to last... check out my 300d video! enjoy ur babe

  • to me the last real mercedes was the W126 (but only up to '85) and the R107 (also only up to '85) as well as the W123, which ended in '85! so basicly, as long as its year 1985 or earlier, its a real mercedes-benz :]

  • true.. true! i'd kill to have a w116, its classy!

  • The name of Buses are O400UPA and OH-1628. The OM449 is a engine (5cil Turbodiesel, 10l, 280~320HP)

  • i thought my engine was an OM-617

  • it is a 617

  • Remember Brazil MB OM-449 bus engine sound

  • ummm...ok?

  • That's what I meant, the headlights. Still trying to figure if I want to get those for mine or not. Is it straight piped?

  • no, theres an exhaust leak..meh close enough :]

  • Nice Euros.

  • actually, its an american spec with the euro headlights.
