  • The picture of Karen at 1:00 is the all time best photo of her. If I could only have the music of one group/person it would be The Carpenters, hands down.

  • she has the voice of an angel

  • Great music, great video!

  • Karen Carpenter has the voice of an angel.

  • I see 11 tone deaf people listened to this at some point! One of the greatest voices of all time bar none!! We miss you Karen and we love you!!

  • @kenslizzard I used to hear her when I was growing up in high school and used to think it was way to surupy, but now I when I hear her voice it is clear she was in touch with every emotion I was feeling at the time but didnt understand. Karen and Richard were a fabulous talent and I love listening to their music, its timeless. It is rele too bad that she thought she was fat, because the world today needs a great love message that she always had in her songs and in her heart.

  • her brother knew the deal... 'WOW! TALENT!'

  • Painfully thin here. What a loss.

  • Beautiful video :)

  • What video is 2:04- 2:25 from?

  • very clever video...well done!

  • THE SONG WE"VE ONLY JUST BEGUN WAS ABOUT A BANK AND PEOPLE WHO WERE JUST STARTING OUT WITH THEIR LIVES:):) MOST PEOPLE WOULD NOT KNOW THAT THIS SONG WAS ABOUT THAT :(:( CHECK YOUR CARPENTER'S HISTORY BOOK'S YOU MIGHT JUST FIND OUT THIS INFO? IF NOT I ALREADY SHARED IT WITH YOU ALL:):)

  • GRACIAS. ME GUSTO MUCHO.

  • Adorei!!!

  • Adorei!!!

  • All i can say is WOWEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Karen Carpenter can sing any kind of music. she is my favorite singer in the world.

  • @music4you2love yes in the world ....elle est extra ....

  • Karen could sing any type of music she wanted to. Can't go wrong with such a perfect voice.

  • Never heard Karen singing this kind of Music! WOW!

    AMAZING She sounds very powerful!!!

  • If only we had Karen again...

  • Both had talent.....look at what Mike did in the back ground before and after CC died...

she was too talented.....what a voice...

  • @pismomann who is CC?

  • i love purple sofa and karen

  • Great song! Just heard it recently for the first time.

  • the whole story just makes me cry.

I was 100% huge CC fan when she died. Never got over it, TBH.

  • That voice! It's incredible.

  • She was the female Nat King Cole. What a tragedy.

  • This is awesome! Who produced this?

  • @DOCJAMBEATS Phil Ramone; and was a sad story, not for Karen or Phil, but for Richard.

  • breathtaking voice.

  • so sweet.........

  • Goodddddddddddddd song

  • wow such a modern 80's sound... it could have been a Michael Jackson song ... I love Karen's voice SO MUCH! I wish I could have been there to comfort her.

Peace and love to all the people you come across ... chris

  • This is an absolutely amazing song. I rarely hear this played anywhere.

  • Karen was about 10 years ahead of her time, when she chose this song to sing to (1979). The slow beginning to upbeat (transition) reminds me a lot of Gloria Estefan's song "Cuts Both Ways" (1990). Same basic song format / approach. But this pop song also gave Karen a chance to show her higher vocal range - more of her natural abilities as a singer. After hearing this song, she proved to be more than just an exceptional drummer and the beautiful lead singer of the Carpenters. Bravo Karen...

  • Karen has got the most beautiful female voice of all time..

Every word, every lyric is clear and meaningful..

    We all miss her..

This number is so appropiate to how i feel..

    xxxxxxxxx

  • So slow jeez -.- COME ON CRANK IT UP! Like literary.... Song sucks but thats my opinion doesn't make it true.

  • If Karen was alive today the pop stars of today wouldn't have a chance!!!!!!!

  • She was so great. I just wish she knew how wonderful she was.

  • It's obvious Karen was the real talent of the Carpenters!

  • @bsbncandey Agree

  • ughh.........

    i love her 'voice'!!!

  • Album "Lovelines" produced by Phil Ramone!

  • Irreplaceable.

  • she was such a beautiful and tragic destiny

  • Karen's voice sounded so young and a little wild in this song ^^ Anh she's so beautiful too

  • Karen had an amazing voice!

  • OMG I love this. Always been a big Carpenters fan. Rather pay to see them in concert now than anyone else on the music scene now.

  • great video great job! God bless and love ya in Jesus name <3

  • nice video and song

  • I miss you Karen!!

  • bonita roilita

  • ffhuuuhhhh ... it's a great song with a great singer, with a great voice . Thanks to The GOD ... love and peace for everyone in this world ...

  • Amazing video - work of art to match the artistry of Karen Carpenter's music.

    Thank you!

  • Solo or as an integral part of the Carpenters Karen could never lose. She was the BEST. She always will be the best and there will probably never be one that even comes close. God I miss her... (yeh i was in love with her too...)

  • Love this song. Well put together video. Love the eye blink. Great job, KarensCondo!

  • Star quality! Love the sophistication Karen projects here in her vocals, as well as in the fantabulous photography!

  • gorgeous, tune, thank's for sharing

  • Great work!

  • If Karen could see how a new generation has discovered her incredible songs, I think she would be so thrilled. She is truly a treasure. She lives in hearts forever and lives here at YouTube for her new fans and for all of us who grew up with her special heart-felt music. Probably the purest voice I've ever heard in my life.

  • @DISCOVEGASGUY I was going to leave a comment but you've said it all here.

Do women like her voice also?

  • Karen, You had me.....and a lot of other people. Boy...you would have thought you were a queen...if you had me.

  • What is amazing is that the powers that be at the time thought this song and the others on her solo album were not good enough? OMG, Karen you never needed their approval. You are and were great, we just wish you could have seen that you didnt need diets. Lovely, beautiful Karen.

  • Karen's was one of the most beautiful voices to ever grace pop music. Vocal quality has been sacrificed in today's era of vocal gymnastics, with one singer trying to outdo the next. This HERE was singing. Love the way they blend her harmonies, namely at 3:14.

  • we"r sister twins from Kazakhstan! we so Love Carpenters! thx for video!

  • They shelved her solo album which hurt her badly. She died unaware of how loved she was and still is. Karen Carpenter will live forever. My kids sing top of the world at school in UK so she's still here for the future generations. RIP KC.

  • Great... still one of the best voices ever...

  • Karen's voice is so soothing, it stands out in the vocal world.

  • WOW!!!! Of all of the Carpenters music I've ever heard, this was one of the best. A voice that has no rival. God bless you Karen.

  • fantastic pictures throughout.... Stunning....

  • there will never be another Karen she was one of a kind

  • I Love Love Loooooveee Her Voiiicee!!! <3

  • this video is perfect I really liked it :) Moreover Karen's voice is really beautiful :)

  • This song sounds like MJ

  • she was so beautiful @1:49

  • can imagined any other singer sang this song this great and with so much emotions! only karen can nailed it!

  • wow. whatta voice! her voice is perfect.

  • i was just a kid_ she made me sleep alright!

  • ...does anyone know which track Karen wanted released as the first single?

  • Great tune and as always beautifully sung by the lovely Miss Carpenter.

  • Yeah Karen had a 4 octave range as she told Tom Bahler in 1980....as told in THE CARPENTERS THE UNTOLD STORY by Ray Coleman.

  • I've always loved everything about KC but I never heard this part of her before so this was a real treat. Very good to hear something never heard before :)

  • Is Karen your favorite vocalist? If so, please go Google:

Cast your vote, mark 5 points.

Karen is nº 6. She deserves Nº 1!!!

    March 2, 2010 Karen's 60 Birthday.

  • Kareb is in no. 5 now!

  • @Krichardvn94 Karen in now no. 3 and we go for the ONE.

Keep voting (you can vote many times, just wait 24 hrs. between one vote and the other).

  • @FlyingMondongo Yeah! Sooner or later, Karen will be in No.1 =))

  • great video. I love this album.

  • Wow! I never thought she could go as high as in 1:16. The fact that she's a contralto and we're used to hearing only her lower register all the time. So I guess she has a pretty good chest voice range too.

  • If it wasn't for this video, I would've never heard this song. It's nicely done.

  • pure and raw talent

  • As always, I love this video!! It still makes me smile. Mona

  • i didn't like the songs from her solo album except for this one. This suits her better, i think this is something that Richard would do for her. i agree, the songs from their tandem are still the best.

  • sigues con estas tonterias??? dejala en pazz taradoo!!!

  • Maravilloso video!!de lo mejor que vi!!!!

  • But why should Karen's career have to wait on Richard? That was why A&M came TO Karen to suggest her doing a solo album, and they chose Phil Ramone...

As for the solo album...she was criticized for departing from the Carpenters sound, which was stupid...it was HER solo album. They were expecting a wedding song like We'Ve Only Just Begun......and yet with the Carpenters, she/they were criticized with putting the same stuff out over and over again...she just couldn't win either way...

  • the public was surprised for the change. They should have done it gradually if they want Karen to sing new songs. I think it's better if they had released a few singles rather than a whole album so that they could test the public's reaction and go from there.

  • @cd72 BUT what's ironic now is that the type of music she made a long time ago & had been criticised quite harshly is now sought after by a legion of people longing for REAL music. Their stuff is timeless!

  • amazing!!!!!!!!

  • I was hoping to discover that Karen did the beautiful ballad standard IF I HAD YOU from vintage '28, so this is disappointing. But she always did her best with the material she had.

  • an excellent singer! a beautiful and soft voice as a breeze! marvel!

  • 悅耳

  • Gotta keep seeking out my Karen hear at my favorite Video! Thank You!!

  • Karen Spirit

    forever

  • What an amazing voice, As smooth as silk, all wrapped up in a nice cosy warm blanket of Delight and sheer contentment. Priceless. Irreplaceable, Doesn't get better than this. Thanks for posting. Love and Peace to everyone. LOL .

  • Ron9882 sent me a message today and it prompted me to look yet again at some Karen videos here. This piece shows her as a confident, mature woman - out from behind her brother's shadow. A Star. I echo my earlier quote from Steet Magnolias: "She will always be young; she will always be beautiful".

  • I don't agree that Karen was in Richards shadow. For better or worse they were a team, a partnership. If you listen to Karen's solo album you will understand how much she relied on Richard to create a sound that truly showcased her talent. Richard was the band leader and arranger, he is a very talented musician. Imagine if Karen would have had a brother like Keith Rlchards or Ozzy Osborne. I don't think we would have the great Carpenters music to listen to today.

  • Karen was a truly gifted vocalist. Richard was also a gifted musician, arranger, recording studio technician and band leader. Like any brother and sister they had their arguments at times but I think they both realized that they needed each other. Richard was supposed to be the musical star of the family. Imagine how he felt when his kid sister suddenly became the celebrity. But I think he realized that he and Karen together could accomplish things neither could do on their own.

  • Karen's solo album was not bad but it did not have the Carpenters "sound". Aside from Karen's vocals, that sound was a big part of The Carpenter's success. I don't blame Karen for attempting to expand her musical horizons and in time I believe she would have become comfortable with this. She sounds somewhat tentative on this first attempt. I believe her best work was and always would be done with Richard. It is difficult to top perfection and, had she lived, she would have realized this.

  • In the beginning I think Karen totally relied on and trusted Richard to guide her career as well she should have. She had become a superstar which is probably not easy for anyone. As she aged, I think she wanted to establish her own identity, to be recognized as more than Richards sister and a member of The Carpenters. She wanted to be known as Karen Carpenter. For better or worse, her life and career was so entangled with Richard that might not have ever been possible. A tragic story.

  • Good point. I think fame took it's toll on both of them as it does on many stars. Look at what happened to Michael Jackson, Elvis, etc. Karen and Richard had such a wholesome image I guess it was hard to believe that they could have the sort of problems they did. Karen had on of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. It was a shame to lose her at such a young age. The world lost a great talent.

  • This could have been a big hit!!! So stupid to not release it till over 10 years after she died!

  • Yes it would have been. It did get some radio play here in Indianapolis.. i remember how shocked yet happy that they were playing something new again. I love the songs Making Love In The Afternoon, My Body Keeps Changing My Mind and If i had you. those are my favourites one off the cd. A few of the songs here were released on other cds after here death.

  • I remember when this was released as a cassette single... i had it for years until my music got stolen. It is very rare and i think Karens' solo album would have been great. She was one who could sing anything and there were many rumours about why her solo album wasn't released until much later.. Richard stated in an interview that they both decided not to release it, but i think Richard was afraid Karen would take off and leave him behind.

  • I totally agree!!! There were several songs on it that were sure fire hits!!

  • Nixe007, you couldn't be more wrong, fans like me that grew up with her would have sent this song to number one if it was close when they were all over the Billboard Charts, geez, by 1996, even Madonna, was just about past her prime...you can't except the Carpenters to be popular in 1996! Thank God for Youtube, a forgotten or never heard treasure here for us to enjoy!

  • I never knew Karen went Solo, this song is so awesome, after reading a few comments I see it wasn't released until 1996, no wonder I never heard it... I was 36 by then!!! Yes a year after her passing would have been appropriate I think...

  • DIDNT KNEW THIS! AWESOME..

    and soo true lyrics.........................

Karen was one of the greatest female singers in american music-history i assume, this jazzy song is so cool, thxs for uploading!

  • this is a great video u made!

  • eventhough Karen was ever so proud and happy it must have felt wrong for both of them at THAT time thát year, and they never released The SOLO, back then.

Maybe it would have been better to release it a year from that time, like 1980 or so.

Anyway I am thankful for release 1996 is very late , and KAREN deserved no less then release in maybe up till 1984? one year after her Passing.

But Fans , we do Love that Solo Album, each and every song? KAREN Carpenter. produced by Phil Ramone

  • And I am so certain that RICHARD L. CARPENTER, had KAREN lived, would have released it much sooner, they would have come to a point wherethey maybe try some solo years, he was fighting this problem and not producing any music Karen wanted to record some songs, try some..and what came out that studio ................and

  • KAREN ANNE CARPENTER, part of Carpenters, succesful in young age performing, changes on stage, wishes to stay behind the drums, but finds it very enjoyable up front, cause people liked her voice but also her quick wit and humor, once the attention was on the looks, it started....and Karen did too many unnatural unhealthy things at the same time to keep her weight down, thát , and only thát is the reason why she lost the fight, cause Karen wanted to WIN ánd GAIN!

    R.I.P. Loved DRUMMER & VOICE

  • What a talent!! What a Gal!! Her songs seem to resemble her personal life....Looking for true love. So sadly missed.

  • What a sad lose, but what a wonderful Legacy she left us, not only in her songs, and amazing voice, but in our Hearts too. LOL .

  • cheers to youtube for keeping all these amazing people alive

  • amazing video... amazing song...

  • Beautiful! If I had to describe you Karen, you are beautiful all the way. You are so much missed and your music will always be with us, and until my last day on earth I know that I will be listening to your music with delight. Love you and eternal repose to your soul.

  • the thing i think i like about her most is that she is a girly girl, not a tom boy girl. that is one of the things i think is great about her.

  • The real great song was written in the late 1920's by Shapiro, Campbell and Connelly.

  • esta entre las grandes divas de la musica pop y aunque no me gusta comparar su voz es muy parecida a la de Mariya Takeuchi ,.... Karen, siempre estara entre nosotros y en esta gran pagina de YT que es lo mejor de todo internet .... SALUDOS

  • This is from her solo album that sent Richard into a jealous tizzy., unfortunatley Karen shelved the album to keep peace.

  • I wondered why I hadnt heard that one. thanks for the post

  • wow, this is REALLY creative! seriously, thanks!!

  • In my heart this is a big hit. I miss her to this very second. She made my world a better place.

  • This could have been a hit!!!

  • The remixed version was released as a single in 1989. Nobody cared. Shame.

  • i never listen this song but is great!!!!!!!!!!

  • If I didn't know any better I'd think this was an actual video you'd see on Mtv. Truly an exceptional job in editing!!! Hats off to you...I really enjoyed watching this!

    Love and Miss you KC!

  • This fascinating song shimmies with warmth and light... I could play it again and again it's so vocally and instrumentally interesting.

  • Well here I am again saying I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!Thank you so much. Mona

  • Thank you for sharing this with the World. It is so beautiful and it shows a different side of Karen, not a sad feeling, more of celebration of the Heavenly Wonder that was Karen Carpenter and her talent. I will always miss her, but I try to focus on her amazing legacy and all that she has given us. I will keep discovering new ways of hearing, seeing and feeling the LOVE that she was here, and I'm sure still is elsewhere! T/Y!

  • KarensCondo, I love Karen's musicality, beautiful voice, & the touch of Jazz. Well done! - Penny

    And thank you, Rick Henry!

  • Superb presentation with amazing Karen Carpenter!

  • I really love this song. This is my other favorite from Lovelines.

  • From Steel Magnolias: "She will always be young; she will always be beautiful..."
