@Sairenyy I do not believe this exact model is available in Best Buy stores any longer...but to your question, that is a no. There is only the option to stop the recording. Joining clips can only be done through editing. There is no pause and start in same clip option.

@tmg132 No, you can't use it as a traditional webcam. When you connect it to a PC USB port it is only recognized as a storage device. It does have video output (both composite and hdmi) though so you can hook it to any hardware that takes that A/V input and use that video however you please. Using it this way on a PC (with the right software) would be very intricate, inconvenient and inefficient compared to a traditional USB webcam.

@FuckxWerexGood I try my best to answer all comments...and I no longer recommend this camcorder as a first...I currently use the Flip Mino HD for video recording and love it...but the best thing about the insignia is that it has a macro mode which means better clarity for up close stuff...

@roxaslover1693 not sure I understand ur question...because Windows Movie Maker does work with .wmv files, because I use it sometimes. Also I did have issues with movie maker back on Vista alot, but it works like a charm "ALMOST", lol, on Windows 7
@roxaslover1693 ...but on vista, what I recommend if you are having issues while editing video, just import video to movie maker and then publish that raw file without edits into another format such as avi and then import that converted version back into movie maker and try editing it
@XxThinkingTechxX could be an issue with your battery, did u get a warranty on it from Best Buy, if so u can go in and have them take a look at it...if not, then the product should have a one year manufacturer warranty on it and you can have best buy service it under the one year warranty...the geeksquad guys will be able to tell you any more options at ur local best buy
@Rawp90Extream no not anymore...get the Flip Mino HD 2nd Generation instead...that my latest video I have done...if you dont mind no flash and just recording video with no still shot capability than get the flip instead!

I actually use windows movie maker myself alot and it works just fine...I also use sony vegas, and magix movie editor plus...but I use windows movie maker the most, I also have windows 7, so I am not sure how wmm works on vista computers and this camcorder, but I am sure you should be fine if you have made sure you have the latest version of wmm,
and also the camcorder automatically makes vids in .avi format, which may cause problems with wmm, so convert videos to like .wmv first and then edit through wmm!
it does not come with a memory card...just 64mb of on-board (built-in) memory. You have to buy sd card if you want more meory...and you can buy sd or sd-hc cards if you want even more memory, sd-hc are just stand for high capacity cards which are all sd cards 4gb and up
@ICEMAN7679 If you go to the tools menu, select sound and select off you will turn the sound effects off. You will still get the sound effect at power on but the others like clicking a picture and such sound effects should be off. Hey Iceman, got the cam today. i have a problem. When i want to open my camcorder(after recharging it for the first time)it won't open. I open it and there's 3 sounds and the camcorder turn off. Help me please.
when you say the word open it...I assume you mean turn on, because opening it can't be difficult...but if you are charging it and it won't turn on, then there is either something wrong with charger or the unit itself...I would first try another mini usb charger with same voltage as charger you get with camcorder to make sure its not charger, and if it the camcorder itself, then exchange it from place of purchase.

I have this camera and I find it really annoying, and not the best.. But it's good to have when you need a video camera.
I bought mine at Futureshop for $149.99, plus tax, coming to about $169.48 but I also bought a 4GB SDHC memory card with it. That was in June, 2009.
About a week later I was at another Futureshop in another town, and they had it on sale for like $110.99 or something like that, I was able to get $30 or so back because it went on sale within a week of me buying it.

I would not recommed this for a music video...a music video would need something more professional that would give you better clarity on recording...and the small cd is just a driver cd...nothing more.
and your xp does not have every last windows update than that might be why it does not play properly...you will need to use another media player that can handle all video formats such as flashplayer or nero media player, etc....

I really cant help you out 100% with xp...because I use Vista and have never tried to play these videos on windows media player via xp...but they work on vista just fine...also when you play vids...you cannot play straight from card on your computer you must copy videos over to a folder on your pc or on a hardrive first.....and they videos automatically come in .avi format so if you do not have the latest version of windows media player
Thanks for subscribing! If you got this second hand without the cord that would fine as long as you dont care about the 64mb of onboard memory which is not much for anything anyways. You can transfer files via the sd expansion memory card through a card reader on your computer and if you don't have a card reader built in on your computer you can go buy an external card reader from pretty much every computer electronics store...Best Buy has them for as low as $20
Thanks for subscribing! The device can read high capacity cards so it can read up to the highest SD card there is, no limits there....and when you close the screen it turns the device and there is no viewfinder as well so you can only record when screen is open.

once you upload the video to movie maker...u must convert it to .wma file before you even touch it for editing or you will see alot off errors with video or audio!
battery life is pretty solid...I have never really counted because it lasts pretty long for me...and there is no lens cap...just comes with a small pouch for covering!
I am not sure now...but I believe BEST BUY plans to open up at least 5 new best buys in the UK in the next few months...you must now this if you live there where they have been constructing these stores...

Well I really have not used the night mode except for once just to see how it looked and it it is not the typical night mode you would expect where everything you record takes on a light greenish look...no, I believe the lighting just changes
no, unfortunately once you stop the recording it will end the recording and when you restart it will start a brand new clip...but you may combine the clip on your computer with programs such as movie maker for windows or iMovie for macs!
yes it will work with windows movie maker...but if you do alot of scene editing you will first have to convert the file to pc to a windows media video file (wmv) because for some reason windows movie maker only works well in editing with that format and the insignia camcorder only records videosinto .avi files and there is no way to change that. Now you can still use .avi files with windows movie maker but you will have some issues when editing, so do as I have advised
hey iceman, after 9 days of playing with my insignia (as mp3 player), the headphone jack got pushed in too far, so i had to refund my money lol, I miss it already, damn! i just like it for the fact that its an mp3 player, also because i am a delivery driver, i need to take videos of what customers want to say to the boss, i bring it back to him to let him see what i recorded of them "b*tching* at him lol
it records to avi...nothing on cam to change that format...but once you get on pc you can convert it to something else if you desire with the appropriate software of course

sd cards range in several sizes and prices are plentiful depending on where you are shopping....youcould go to best buy and a card which is $40-$50 bucks there could be $10-20 on ebay or more expensive at target...so there is no way to give you an exact rpice for everywhere but they range from as low $10 to as high as $100
depending on size of the SD card, what u want is called the "micro SD" i think 8 gigs is normal these days, when u get the micro SD card, it comes with a converter (SD card converter), the micro is 3 times smaller, u fit it into the converter, shopping online is way cheaper than best buy, even shopping online with bestbuy is cheaper than the store itself, anyways, good luck
yep...I actually only use it that way...my cord for this device is still in packaging it came with...I transfer my video via my card reader on laptop.
no problem, I really did not mean for this video to be an actual review or it would have been more well done. Even if you buy it and you do not like it best buy has a 14 day return policy on their cameras and camcorders with a restock fee of course but if you return just say there is something wrong with it and you shouldn't get charged. If they think and know it is functional that when they charge restock fee...

i bought one, its not as good as u think it is....the focus on it is not all the great, it works best if the camera is standing still while recording, and u gotta be in the light, in the dark, all u'll see is bad pixels, without being plugged with the power cords, the battery doesn't last long at all...
best review i would give, its nice and small, if u dont care too much professional videos...its a nice MP3 player (only good with headphones), other than that, i'd save my 100 bucks
and adding to this....the features on it, like "music (mp3) playable w/ tiny speakers (very quite sounds), pictures (jpeg), movie (avi), and voice recording". everything featured is quick change, the screen flips up and side to side and stuff, but theres 1 angle i cant get, lets say the screen is laying the long way, the screen would show the video being taken as your head on the right, and ur legs on the left (while standing), it dont make it like wide screen on the down possition.
u also need to buy a camera stand for it too (not included), w/o it, its sorta feels like its missing something, just pay the extra 14.00 dollars for it, its well worth it
I agree on it not being perfect, expecially for professional stuff, the fact that is called an HD camera alone has got to be a lie because quality is not that good...but it gets the job done for what I need it to do and that is my youtube vdeos.

I have one of these, its a great camera other than when you press record for video, the zoom in bar on the side of the screen gets an X through it showing that you can't zoom in. Thats not the problem though, the problem is that it autozooms in about 1/4 of the way when you press record. If you've noticed this problem and know what to do, then please reply!!

Thanks for subscribing! If you got this second hand without the cord that would fine as long as you dont care about the 64mb of onboard memory which is not much for anything anyways. You can transfer files via the sd expansion memory card through a card reader on your computer and if you don't have a card reader built in on your computer you can go buy an external card reader from pretty much every computer electronics store...Best Buy has them for as low as $20

Thanks for subscribing! The device can read high capacity cards so it can read up to the highest SD card there is, no limits there....and when you close the screen it turns the device and there is no viewfinder as well so you can only record when screen is open.

once you upload the video to movie maker...u must convert it to .wma file before you even touch it for editing or you will see alot off errors with video or audio!

battery life is pretty solid...I have never really counted because it lasts pretty long for me...and there is no lens cap...just comes with a small pouch for covering!

i miss my insignia! imma go get another one, arghhhhh... same one that the headphone jack broke, it was stuck in "plugged in mode" meaning as if the phone jack is plugged with a headphone, but its pulled out already, and it went inside the casing, i put years of punishment on it within a week lol

Well I really have not used the night mode except for once just to see how it looked and it it is not the typical night mode you would expect where everything you record takes on a light greenish look...no, I believe the lighting just changes

no, unfortunately once you stop the recording it will end the recording and when you restart it will start a brand new clip...but you may combine the clip on your computer with programs such as movie maker for windows or iMovie for macs!

yes it will work with windows movie maker...but if you do alot of scene editing you will first have to convert the file to pc to a windows media video file (wmv) because for some reason windows movie maker only works well in editing with that format and the insignia camcorder only records videosinto .avi files and there is no way to change that. Now you can still use .avi files with windows movie maker but you will have some issues when editing, so do as I have advised

sd cards range in several sizes and prices are plentiful depending on where you are shopping....youcould go to best buy and a card which is $40-$50 bucks there could be $10-20 on ebay or more expensive at target...so there is no way to give you an exact rpice for everywhere but they range from as low $10 to as high as $100

depending on size of the SD card, what u want is called the "micro SD" i think 8 gigs is normal these days, when u get the micro SD card, it comes with a converter (SD card converter), the micro is 3 times smaller, u fit it into the converter, shopping online is way cheaper than best buy, even shopping online with bestbuy is cheaper than the store itself, anyways, good luck

yep...I actually only use it that way...my cord for this device is still in packaging it came with...I transfer my video via my card reader on laptop.

Even if you buy it and you do not like it best buy has a 14 day return policy on their cameras and camcorders with a restock fee of course but if you return just say there is something wrong with it and you shouldn't get charged. If they think and know it is functional that when they charge restock fee...

i bought one, its not as good as u think it is....the focus on it is not all the great, it works best if the camera is standing still while recording, and u gotta be in the light, in the dark, all u'll see is bad pixels, without being plugged with the power cords, the battery doesn't last long at all...
best review i would give, its nice and small, if u dont care too much professional videos...its a nice MP3 player (only good with headphones), other than that, i'd save my 100 bucks

and adding to this....the features on it, like "music (mp3) playable w/ tiny speakers (very quite sounds), pictures (jpeg), movie (avi), and voice recording". everything featured is quick change, the screen flips up and side to side and stuff, but theres 1 angle i cant get, lets say the screen is laying the long way, the screen would show the video being taken as your head on the right, and ur legs on the left (while standing), it dont make it like wide screen on the down possition.

I agree on it not being perfect, expecially for professional stuff, the fact that is called an HD camera alone has got to be a lie because quality is not that good...but it gets the job done for what I need it to do and that is my youtube vdeos.

I don't know how to help you...if it is only recording sound maybe there is something wrong with the device or maybe you should take it back to best buy and have a geeksquad agent check it out or let you exchange if your still in your return policy...I can really only help you if I was looking at the device in front of me other than that...Best Buy should be able to help you!

I have one of these, its a great camera other than when you press record for video, the zoom in bar on the side of the screen gets an X through it showing that you can't zoom in. Thats not the problem though, the problem is that it autozooms in about 1/4 of the way when you press record. If you've noticed this problem and know what to do, then please reply!!
