The only pleasant thing about seeing this is the fact that Richard Bruce Insaney is finally gone from power and now fairly feeble. He'll come out with his lying memoir later this year and hopefully fade for good after that. All the better for we the sheeple.
He doesn't care b/c by the time the "History Books" are written the peons will all be under military or corporate control. The US Military will be glad it has hundreds of bases in Iraq as it fights to steal the oil. Halliburton and his friends will be fine - thanks to the crimes of himself and GWB - and the other 350+ million Americans will end up jobless and starving.
What the hell is Dick talking about! Protect us, the damn Terrorists, They didn't have to do a damn thing. The only damn reason you got reelected is so you couldn't come back in and fuck it up after someone else fixed it. This is as dark a time as the damn cold war, at least then we'd all be dead if worst came to worst.
@BurlingtonNorthernRy No, it's darker. There were not thousands of dead Americans in the cold war. We also didn't invade two countries who did not attack us. Yes, that includes Afghanistan. Afghanistan did not attack us. Osama Bin Laden and Al-Quaeda did. We could have struck them without invading the country. We've done it before, we could have done it there.
Dick Chaney is allways right for he can see the future in the reflections of his chrome cockpiercing. He for example foresaw Frida Bocarra winning the European Songfestival back in '69. Also he can give u aids just by looking at you.

I'd take Cheney as the President any day over the great pretender who's in the White House. It's almost June, and it's evident that the only thing the pretender is good at is handing out welfare checks. Oh well, America is getting what it voted for right? Money spent on the war now seems like money spent at a yard sale when compared to the insane Bailout. In contrast, Dick Cheney is a leader and a real man who doesn't need cue-cards or a teleprompter by his side 24/7. 42 months and counting.
u must be on some serious drugs colderbeer. if you think that cheney is better then obama. i see that the beer isn't the only thing that is cold. your brain must be frozen !!! LOL
Funny how a guy named Dick has no balls...He got scared when the planes came after him...and he is acting like a scared person. He's insane with fear. Yes Greed too but all those fuckers are greedy. But Dick...dick is scared shitless, look how his body is falling apart and his mind is rotting...fear does that. stress does that.
and witchcraft. I wanna hear Cheney confess to being a witch, so everyone can see what is actually happening when you torture somebody. The victim just tells you what you want to hear.
It doesn't bother him what Americans think about him because he isn't one. He is a murderer and torturer and just a couple of centuries ago he would be burning innocents as witches. What a horror of a human he is,
if ur reading this u cant go back there was a dad who got pissed couse he got layed off so he went home took a knife than went to his 13 year old daughter and slit her neck! if u r reading this and dont forward to 10 vids the 13 year old girl be sitting on the endge of the bed waiting for tha when u wake up who ever takes care of u will find u in the tube full of bloode with ur throat slit and than the 13 year old girl will come to who ever takes care of u so hurry dont be the that unlucky one
i think cheney felt at one time that he was pulling al the ropes and did everything to keep this.
and i think most human beings are influenced when getting popular, famous rich or powerfull. they all think the ]y are better then all other people and they are right and others are wrong. and i think cheney thinks he is on top of the world.
Dick Cheney was never interested in representing the American people. His only interests, and I think he made them pretty clear, were money and power...defense contracts and oil...He's as evil as they come.
I totally agree with Cenk about questioning yourself. I use to believe many Global Warming myths but after being turned onto New Scientist, I found a special on the site debunking all the myths I use to believe and espouse. Always question your beliefs just in case you might be wrong.
Just one correction, at the end Cenk says our country is a democracy. It's not. It's a Republic. They're cousins but they're not the same. The founders feared democracy because it can turn into mobocracy.
Bush and Cheney always say that "history will judge them", but in reality history will probably judge them as unfavorably as we have in the present. Perhaps they will be around long enough to see the history books put them in the same category as Nixon and Agnew. What will be their argument then?
Is he more or less arrogant than Dick Cheney? Because that is the base line. Cheney does not do any self interrogation... enhanced or otherwise. He has a thought, believes it... and gives it unquestioning loyalty... even in the face of readily proven facts, That's the issue. Is Cenk more arrogant than MLK or Gandhi? Perhaps. But he has Cheney beat. It aint even close.
Is he certain or does he want to appear certain? I think the latter. He's a smart guy, he know how to get things done and one of these is his rock hard image. If he admits mistakes, apoolages or abondoms his views, he'll be further crucified. But he's setting himself up as the hard tough guy who 'will be right in the end'. What do you think will happen when terrorist strike again? What would happen to Cheney if he layed down? What will/might happen now he stand up?
Cheney said it all in one interview. something along the lines of he did what he swore he would and that is to protect the people. The problem is while that is close, its a little off track. He was supposed to be protecting ummm... uhh.. well you know that one thing.
You know, what's more frightening is the fact that he doesn't even acknowledge that he represents the 29%. If I was a Republican in that unfavorable position, I would atleast say "well, 61% don't like me, but I represent a lot of values people like, just maybe haven't done it as efficiently as I could have"
but Dick Cheney doesn't even acknowledge that he represents a republican base. He just acknowledges that he doesn't represent the opposing base and doesn't care about it.
As a conservative and against Cenk on most issues, I agree with Cenk here. Bush and Cheney completley let us down on many issues. They are the grosem twosome, the worst pres and vice pres of all time.
And get this. In 2000 after Bush was "elected", he appointed Dick Cheney to vet all of the candidates for vice-president. Dick Cheney in turn appointed himself. Thats a little bit of history that not many people remember.
I believe there's no question Cheney went in with absolute contempt for the accepted rules of governing, set his private crusade up and went for it hard.
I can just imagine his morning incantation being: "I have the power, and I will use it to my own ends. Dick, you're a smart, sexy guy. Go kill 'em!"
You have to pay attention to this. Only in baseball is something like 29% efficiency acceptable. You bat.290 and you're doing ok. The reason cheney isn't concerned is because his agenda was to keep the cash flowing into the war profiteers'pockets. Period! I mean exactly why was he chosen to be VP? What are his qualifications and background. He was there to "make sure" little georgie made the choice to go to war with anyone he could justify. The "religion" stuff merely pointed out his arrogance.
Wrong, he stepped down late 1999 from Head of CFR and Halliburton so he must be loyal to constitution he sworn an oath to protect.
Dick did not admit being head of CFR because Dick is modest and disclosure of heading CFR violates Logan Act or trading in secret with foreign globalists. No need to pardon Dick, he is a patriot.
How can you defend this criminal? I know that in the time of War the White House has the right to suspend the Constitution, but this administration got the closest of any in history to actually doing it.
Because that is what a Patriot does in America. Debunking the truth is part of the American Tradition. Lying is not accepted in this society, but doublespeak spin is fair game for the clever.
How about breaking international law? He authorized illegal torture. He is a war criminal. If he would be held to the law like everyone else, he would spend the rest of his life in jail. He and his people have done more to compromise the security of this nation than any in history and now he is just saying "So what? What are you going to do about it?". He has to be the worst VP the US has ever had. There is no defending him.
I think you misunderstood the point. There are various people who have had a history of being connected to or working for the military industry that periodically get appointed to government posts or in this case selected as VP running mate. People that the general public doesn't know who they are or where they come from. They may give up their positions in certain companies but not their finacial interests. Like stock in the companies. Ultimately they go back. A clear conflict of interest.
nope. America is not a democracy. Its a plutocracy masquerading around as a democracy to keep us comfortable, quiet and tuned into watching football on TV rather than actually giving a damn about how people in power screw everyone else [in American and elsewhere] daily while we blame somebody else.
Dick Cheney doesn't support a representative democracy. He believes in totalitarianism. Where the leaders, once elected, have complete unhindered power. This is a totalitarian dictatorship. This model of government was the beginning of the end for the Roman Empire and if it is allowed to perpetuate, will eventually lead to the demise of this country.
People have an upside down view of power. You think of it as a pyramid with fewer people at the top and the majority of people at the bottom. What people don't realize is that in a representative gov. of any kind, whether it be a national government or the leaders of a church, the people on top are given power to serve the people on the bottom. It is supposed to be all about the people. The elected officials are there to serve not to rule that is supposed to be what makes democracy different.
HEY. Some people are Christians and Jesus is part of their lives. WELCOME TO AMERICA. GET USE TO IT. THE COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED AROUND BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES AND THE BELIEF IN ONE POWERFUL GOD.
The US is not a Christian nation. Yes the founders were Christian and that is why they made it very clear that the US was not founded on Christian principles, especially Thomas Jefferson who coined the term "separation of Church and State."
Treaty of Tripoli
"As the Government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen"
It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible. George Washington The U.S. was founded on and has been governed by Christian morality. We have slowly drifted from this morality however and it will cost us.
What he is talking about is the religious principles of the citizens. George Washington never supported using religious doctrine in law or matters of the State. He is just commenting on the fact that at that time the primary model for moral socialization was religion. It is still true while not so universal anymore. Of course the big ones like do not steal and do not kill are int there. They are common sense laws that exist in all civilizations no matter the religion or creed.
Morals are not a matter of the State, beyond the ones codified in law like the ones mentioned before (killing, stealing, etc.), they are a matters of society and socialization. He was a stout believer in religious tolerance and freedom and that religion was not an issue of the State and had no place in politics.
"We didn't set out to get the highest level of polls..." Nope, day one they set out to invade Iraq. And they did. Too bad it didn't turn out like they planned it.
Dick Cheney is a war criminal and it will be a great day in America when the son of a bitch drops dead and history erase the criminal from all records.
The man should be ignored and forgotten.
Everything the and his thugs like John Yoo and mister Addington had their hands on, should be passed to the department of justice for criminal investigations.
first of all i must say that i am amazed that there are conservatives and republicans who still defend this man and approve of his actions or views.....second...this guy is pure evil and one day it will be widely known that he masterminded the 9/11 attacks and used the country's blindness for his political gain....they had planned to invade iraq well before the attacks and people need to understand this....this man has a complete disregard for human life
When I see cheney's outright cockiness and absolute certainity I see a display of passive aggression
He loves that he was the power behind the throne for so many years. He loves that anyone with an IQ over 100 knows that. He loves that he made billions upon billions for him and his buddies at the expense everyone else.
BUT he hates us. He hates that 71% of us would'nt vote for him to even be the head janitor of a broom closet
So he goes out of his way to stick his arrogance in our faces.
Comparing Malcolm X to Dick Cheney? Malcolm X grew up in an atmosphere of severe racist oppression and was fighting for the improvement of the lives of an abused minority. Dick Cheney is a person in power who has caused tremendous destruction, misery and the deaths of hundreds of thousands.
Malcolm X was for helping his people. After going to Mecca, he saw that really everyone was one of those people. He wanted to reach out to everyone afterwards to change things and those that didn't like it killed him.
Cheney did everything for himself. He doesn't care about anyone unless they can help him. "Mr. Cheney, go fuck yourself"
good segment cenk. you r an introspective person and u exerciseyour logic and motivations on a continual basis. one small correction we have a republican form of government not a democracy - this is a big difference. in the macro-level Hobbesian tradtion the populace contract sovereignty to a chief executive in exchange for protection from external threats or internal divisions. this unfortunately is usurped by some zealots like the neocons during a time of (declared) war.
whats your point . so what if you think you have been wrong and have changed your mind after you read the book of muslim. nobody cares about you. you have not been elected to anything.
Testing my faith? It takes a little more than Cenk to test my faith. It is not as if he is convincing. I am saying he has made his point on how he feels so many times he is beginning to sound like he is trying make himself believe what he says.
I also take issue with Cenk when he misquotes the Bible or takes things out of context to prove some odd point.
He is not being fair to the people who listen/watch his show. FOr a man so open minded...he seems pretty closed minded on this issue.
If you have to manipulate and twist the scriptures to get them to say what you want... at the core, you are telling a lie. And I am sure Cenk, and you, would agree lying is wrong.
I agree and you're right misquoting the bible is wrong, but that's what they do to, so why wouldn't you use their own tactics against them?
And he might be close minded on this issue, and I'll admit I am too, because I get sick when I see how religious people act like they know everything better and are morally superior, I can't stand it... and I think Cenk reacts the same way.
I do to a point because there is limit to what you can do by quoting the Bible to people who don't believe in it. I like to use logic or point out false reasoning.
You say you are closed minded, but I don't think you are. I think you don't agree with what I do, and I respect that. I think you are far more open minded person than Cenk
In science we consider a strong sense of skepticism to be a positive attribute. It has been postulated that in a black hole the laws of nature, we hold to be true on earth, do not hold up. So absolute truths, even those of math, are scarcely tenable in all scenarios.
Now with respect to religion, or biblical interpretation, it has a tradition of controversy/disagreement. So, why isn't it reasonable to remain skeptical about biblical interpretation?
I love skeptical thinking. I would call myself a quasi-skeptic (because i still believe in GOd).
I take no issue with people who have differing opinions of the Bible when they read it. However, I ask that they read it and not only use portions of what is says to fit a theme or point they are trying to make. Wnen verses are taken out of context, it is no different than telling a lie.
If someone doesn't believe in Bible is true or doesn't believe in God...I have no issue with that per se.
That's a very fair viewpoint you have. I think verses are often picked out to prove a point. For example Matthew 19 is used to deny homosexuals their marriage and other rights. People CHOOSE to ignore that it also says Divorce is wrong. It literally says that if you remarry and have sex it would be considered adultery.
I am so sick of hearing about the "sanctity" of marriage. People who say that have no idea what the word santify means. It means it is holy, it is created or endorsed by God, Himself. So, how can man ruin that if it was created by God?
"Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's..."
If the government sees fit to make it legal...so be it. It doesn't destroy or lessen a marriage of others.
Just to add to that point and be fair, I will admit Christians can be just as bad if not worse when quoting scriptures to reach some end. In fact, I think it is worse when Christians do it, because if anyone should know better it would be them.
I hope I make sense and am not coming off as some zealot.
THe clip "No one follows the Bible." He uses wild generalizations about things contained in the Bible, knowing they are metaphors.
There is also the clip (i forget the name and I'm sorry) where he has a woman on who uses the Bible to justify gay marriage.
he also has used the quote, "it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to go to heaven." Taken out of context is sounds like rich people cannot go to heaven.
Thank you for the two examples, though I would argue that his interpretation was in fact correct and you would need to explain how it isn't.
But even discounting those things, how about the parts of the Bible that talk about it being OK to have slaves and talking about how you should treat your slaves? Certainly people do not believe in that anymore...
His point is that the Bible has many parts that are pretty easy to understand, and that people disagree with and do not follow.
I understand the idea of slaves and how that seems offensive.
I replied to many postings about this.
First off, the idea of slaves, as we hold it, is not the same way they did. THey would be what we call servants now. There was time frame they were allowed to slaves for and many of them were sent to become doctors or craftsman...these are not things we think of when we think of slavery.
As well, slaves often became nearly parts of the family. They could inherit land from their masters.
"For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 5:18-19)
I was responding to a guy claiming the Old Testament laws had been done away with. Clearly they haven't been, since jesus is seen here endorsing the OT in full. That means all true christians should start keeping slaves and burning heretics.
Yeah, you accuse me of taking that out of context yet in the quote you gave it EXPLICITLY states the laws do not pass away until kingdom come (i.e. Armageddon). So why are you trying to go through all these contortions? David Hume once said that reason is a slave to the emotions, which is unfortunate for you because you are simply clinging to the nonsense your parents said was true.
So, now you know what i was taught when I was younger? And lets say it was...are you calling my parents fools? You don't know me nor do you know them...you can't make that sort of call...it is quite rude to do so.
Jesus came to fullfil the law. That is what he said His job was. So, either Jesus didn't do what he said he was going to do or the law was fufilled.
When we speak of the Law, we mean the Law God gave to Moses. There is a HUGE difference between the laws of man and the laws of God.
Added to that, many times the sons of the master married female slaves. It is clear in the Bible that those women should be treated as the master's daughters would be.
Depending on the version you read, the translation is "servant" rather than slave.
Exodus also speaks of slavery where people are kidnapped and forced into slavery...it says the person who does this is to be killed.
So, the people who use/used the bible to justify slavery were 100% wrong.
Also, in the "No one follows the Bible," he makes it sound as though people who really want to follow the Bible should give up all their possessions and follow Jesus. Nevermind Jesus was talking to one man and trying to demonstrate how shallow his faith was...that is taken out of context when Cenk uses it that way.
I know what you are saying, but I also don't...if that makes sense.
While yes, he is was elected to do the will of the people, he was also elected to do the right thing. I am not saying he did or didn't, I am just putting this out there.
What if 90% of the people thought it was okay to kill suspected criminals without a trial?
The majority of people would be wrong and it would be his job to stand against it.
They already kill criminals without a trial... Ever heard of Gitmo?
And regardless, this is a government of the people, for the people, by the people. The government is supposed to do the WILL of the people. That's why that freaking bailout package went through, even though it was unpopular.
And did it do anything? Of course not, and the people knew it wouldn't. Banks gave money to their highest executives as going away bonuses. That was OUR tax money.
Now they are "killing" people in GITMO? It went from holding them, to torturing, to now killing...but that is not what this is about.
My point is, they were not elected to do the will of the people...if the will of the people is not constitutional. They are elected to follow the Constitution and while doing that, follow the will of the people. THe Constitution is the higher calling.
I am not saying what Bush/Cheney did was right, nor was it my point. It seems you missed my point altogether.
Officials are elected to "DO THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE". Americans got rid of repubs/conservs because repubs/conservs believe that elected officials should do what they believe is right, even if the American people think that what they're doing is wrong. No more power for them until they learn to do what the American people want! :p
I agree that elected officials should do the will of the people, but I can't think of any official document that says that.
That is why the repubs/conservs were able to get away with the "big brother" approach. Essentially they play the position of "the one that knows best" and use this argument to do whatever they want, against the will of the people.
There's nothing in the constitution saying that we can't start a war with... say... England, for no reason what-so-ever other than Congress and the President to. We could nuke every country on the planet, and it wouldn't be wrong according to the constitution.
Just because something may be legal...doesn't make it moral.
Could congress declare war for no reason? Sure.
However, I believe they would be held accountable for their actions later or their orders would not be followed in the first place. This may be naive, but I believe there is still enough moral (or somewhat moral, if that is possible) people in office where something like that would never happen.
Government officials don't always do what's popular OR right. This administration is a clear demonstration of that. They've broken the Geneva Conventions by using torture on detainees and starting a war of aggression in Iraq.
I'm pretty sure that the way our government is conducted would have disgusted the founders, who wanted a government FOR the people.
I am sorry, I guess I don't know where you are coming from.
I don't mean to come across as though I am defending what the administration has done. Some things I agree with some I don't.
Plus, I have no doubts with you on the founding fathers.
I think Thomas Jefferson would have stood against this governemt and to go even further back, Plato would have called this form of government an abomination.
I think we are closer to the same page than we first thought. 8-)
Cenk being a typical politician, wanting to stay with every opinion and finding a way to stay away from commiting to any opinion in a way that doesn't wake or offends anyone.
thats the truth teller right there, he doesnt give a shit about polls, i.e. he doesnt give a shit what the american people think or want..."we do what is right for america", so what is right for the people is what WE want not what the PEOPLE want.
Of cooourse, Dick Cheney is confident he was successful! His goal wasn't to do good by the world or the US. His goal was to make money for himself, his family and maybe a few of his buddies. In that light, I'm certain he was very successful in his goals as Veep.
why do they think they did good on terrorism? they had the largest terrorist attack ever on us soil, during their time. THEY THINK THAT THEY SHOUL ONLY BE GRADED ON 7.7 YEARS! lol
To listen to Cheney, he would only consider himself a success if his approval rating was negative. Well, I guess it can't go below zero, but he sure gave it the old college-try.
If Cheney had the income and health insurance like the rest of us Americans, he would have been dead years ago! Because of the MILLIONS of tax dollars he has stolen from us over the years, he will probably live forever! I can only hope that someday he dies a SLOW, PAINFUL DEATH!!!!!
Dickless Cheney is nothing but Sarah Palin's worthless, pathetic, DICKLESS and BALLESS BITCH and PUSSY! She is more MAN and has a BIGGER, SUPERIOR and COMPLETE PACKAGE than Dickless. She is the SUPERIOR politician and statesman than Cheney could ever dream of being because she is GOD's CHOSEN ONE, GOD INCARNATE and the LIVING EMBODIMENT OF GOD HERSELF! She will become the GREATEST POTUS this country has ever seen and more loved than Cheney. Even Cheney's lesbo daughter is MORE MAN than he is!
The system of US government is not a democracy at all nor should it be as evidenced by the fallout from the Prop 8 ballot here in California(gay rights/marriage) where the rights of the few were taken away--that's democracy! The founding fathers hated it.
The United States is in fact a Constitutional Republic.
Actually, the system we live under is a REPUBLIC... and dick Cheney violated the laws of our Republic, therefore he is a TRAITOR

Dick Cheney doesn't support a representative democracy. He believes in totalitarianism. Where the leaders, once elected, have complete unhindered power. This is a totalitarian dictatorship. This model of government was the beginning of the end for the Roman Empire and if it is allowed to perpetuate, will eventually lead to the demise of this country.
cg66079 3 years ago
People have an upside down view of power. You think of it as a pyramid with fewer people at the top and the majority of people at the bottom. What people don't realize is that in a representative gov. of any kind, whether it be a national government or the leaders of a church, the people on top are given power to serve the people on the bottom. It is supposed to be all about the people. The elected officials are there to serve not to rule that is supposed to be what makes democracy different.

The US is not a Christian nation. Yes the founders were Christian and that is why they made it very clear that the US was not founded on Christian principles, especially Thomas Jefferson who coined the term "separation of Church and State."

It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible. George Washington The U.S. was founded on and has been governed by Christian morality. We have slowly drifted from this morality however and it will cost us.

"Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principles." George Washington
TheClownCrew 3 years ago
What he is talking about is the religious principles of the citizens. George Washington never supported using religious doctrine in law or matters of the State. He is just commenting on the fact that at that time the primary model for moral socialization was religion. It is still true while not so universal anymore. Of course the big ones like do not steal and do not kill are int there. They are common sense laws that exist in all civilizations no matter the religion or creed.
cg66079 3 years ago
Morals are not a matter of the State, beyond the ones codified in law like the ones mentioned before (killing, stealing, etc.), they are a matters of society and socialization. He was a stout believer in religious tolerance and freedom and that religion was not an issue of the State and had no place in politics.

Johnnewb 3 years ago
I also take issue with Cenk when he misquotes the Bible or takes things out of context to prove some odd point.
He is not being fair to the people who listen/watch his show. FOr a man so open minded...he seems pretty closed minded on this issue.
If you have to manipulate and twist the scriptures to get them to say what you want... at the core, you are telling a lie. And I am sure Cenk, and you, would agree lying is wrong.
Johnnewb 3 years ago
I agree and you're right misquoting the bible is wrong, but that's what they do to, so why wouldn't you use their own tactics against them?
And he might be close minded on this issue, and I'll admit I am too, because I get sick when I see how religious people act like they know everything better and are morally superior, I can't stand it... and I think Cenk reacts the same way.
Piko6262 3 years ago
I do to a point because there is limit to what you can do by quoting the Bible to people who don't believe in it. I like to use logic or point out false reasoning.
You say you are closed minded, but I don't think you are. I think you don't agree with what I do, and I respect that. I think you are far more open minded person than Cenk
Johnnewb 3 years ago
In science we consider a strong sense of skepticism to be a positive attribute. It has been postulated that in a black hole the laws of nature, we hold to be true on earth, do not hold up. So absolute truths, even those of math, are scarcely tenable in all scenarios.
Now with respect to religion, or biblical interpretation, it has a tradition of controversy/disagreement. So, why isn't it reasonable to remain skeptical about biblical interpretation?
AllknowingGuitarGuru 3 years ago 2
I love skeptical thinking. I would call myself a quasi-skeptic (because i still believe in GOd).
I take no issue with people who have differing opinions of the Bible when they read it. However, I ask that they read it and not only use portions of what is says to fit a theme or point they are trying to make. Wnen verses are taken out of context, it is no different than telling a lie.
If someone doesn't believe in Bible is true or doesn't believe in God...I have no issue with that per se.
Johnnewb 3 years ago
That's a very fair viewpoint you have. I think verses are often picked out to prove a point. For example Matthew 19 is used to deny homosexuals their marriage and other rights. People CHOOSE to ignore that it also says Divorce is wrong. It literally says that if you remarry and have sex it would be considered adultery.
johnedwards1968 3 years ago
Unless your spouse commits adultery... I think its ok according to the fairy tales then....
Tremordeth 3 years ago
Thank you.
My view on gay marriage is this...
I am glad we agree.
Johnnewb 3 years ago
Just to add to that point and be fair, I will admit Christians can be just as bad if not worse when quoting scriptures to reach some end. In fact, I think it is worse when Christians do it, because if anyone should know better it would be them.
I hope I make sense and am not coming off as some zealot.
Johnnewb 3 years ago
When does Cenk misquote the Bible or take it out of context? I have seen most of his YouTube postings and can't think of a single example.
As usual, give examples, prove you are right, or what you say is meaningless.
moulingalette 3 years ago 2
THe clip "No one follows the Bible." He uses wild generalizations about things contained in the Bible, knowing they are metaphors.
There is also the clip (i forget the name and I'm sorry) where he has a woman on who uses the Bible to justify gay marriage.
he also has used the quote, "it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to go to heaven." Taken out of context is sounds like rich people cannot go to heaven.
There are a few for you.
Johnnewb 3 years ago
Thank you for the two examples, though I would argue that his interpretation was in fact correct and you would need to explain how it isn't.
But even discounting those things, how about the parts of the Bible that talk about it being OK to have slaves and talking about how you should treat your slaves? Certainly people do not believe in that anymore...
His point is that the Bible has many parts that are pretty easy to understand, and that people disagree with and do not follow.
moulingalette 3 years ago
I understand the idea of slaves and how that seems offensive.
I replied to many postings about this.
First off, the idea of slaves, as we hold it, is not the same way they did. THey would be what we call servants now. There was time frame they were allowed to slaves for and many of them were sent to become doctors or craftsman...these are not things we think of when we think of slavery.
As well, slaves often became nearly parts of the family. They could inherit land from their masters.
Johnnewb 3 years ago
The Bible is pretty clear that you can beat your slave almost to the point of death.
In Exodus it says that if you beat your slave to death, you should be punished. But if he lives for 1 or 2 days before he/she dies, then it is ok.
Again, I don't think beatings are something we agree with anymore as a people.
There are plenty of examples I could give. It is clear that many parts of the Bible are morally offensive and not any kind of message from "God".
moulingalette 3 years ago
Colossians 4:1: "Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven."
The birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus changed many things.
The "eye for an eye" laws were done away with.
In turn, so were many of the harsher punishments.
The new law was, "Do unto others..."
Johnnewb 3 years ago
"For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 5:18-19)
j01tz0r 3 years ago
Okay...I am not sure what point you are trying to make.
Johnnewb 3 years ago
I was responding to a guy claiming the Old Testament laws had been done away with. Clearly they haven't been, since jesus is seen here endorsing the OT in full. That means all true christians should start keeping slaves and burning heretics.
j01tz0r 3 years ago
That person was me.
You have proven a point I was making earlier and one I said Cenk makes as well. He misquotes or takes things out of context.
You forgot to put the verse in front of it..
Mathew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled..."
Jesus' resurrection fulfilled the law.
Johnnewb 3 years ago
Yeah, you accuse me of taking that out of context yet in the quote you gave it EXPLICITLY states the laws do not pass away until kingdom come (i.e. Armageddon). So why are you trying to go through all these contortions? David Hume once said that reason is a slave to the emotions, which is unfortunate for you because you are simply clinging to the nonsense your parents said was true.
j01tz0r 3 years ago
So, now you know what i was taught when I was younger? And lets say it was...are you calling my parents fools? You don't know me nor do you know them...you can't make that sort of call...it is quite rude to do so.
Jesus came to fullfil the law. That is what he said His job was. So, either Jesus didn't do what he said he was going to do or the law was fufilled.
When we speak of the Law, we mean the Law God gave to Moses. There is a HUGE difference between the laws of man and the laws of God.
Johnnewb 3 years ago
unless of course they were beat to death
Lordoftehuglyflies 3 years ago
Added to that, many times the sons of the master married female slaves. It is clear in the Bible that those women should be treated as the master's daughters would be.
Depending on the version you read, the translation is "servant" rather than slave.
Exodus also speaks of slavery where people are kidnapped and forced into slavery...it says the person who does this is to be killed.
So, the people who use/used the bible to justify slavery were 100% wrong.
Johnnewb 3 years ago
Also, in the "No one follows the Bible," he makes it sound as though people who really want to follow the Bible should give up all their possessions and follow Jesus. Nevermind Jesus was talking to one man and trying to demonstrate how shallow his faith was...that is taken out of context when Cenk uses it that way.

Does Dick Cheney not understand that he is supposed to do the popular thing... considering that he works for the people?
ShaneEnochs 3 years ago
I know what you are saying, but I also don't...if that makes sense.
While yes, he is was elected to do the will of the people, he was also elected to do the right thing. I am not saying he did or didn't, I am just putting this out there.
What if 90% of the people thought it was okay to kill suspected criminals without a trial?
The majority of people would be wrong and it would be his job to stand against it.
No?
Johnnewb 3 years ago
They already kill criminals without a trial... Ever heard of Gitmo?
And regardless, this is a government of the people, for the people, by the people. The government is supposed to do the WILL of the people. That's why that freaking bailout package went through, even though it was unpopular.
And did it do anything? Of course not, and the people knew it wouldn't. Banks gave money to their highest executives as going away bonuses. That was OUR tax money.
ShaneEnochs 3 years ago
Now they are "killing" people in GITMO? It went from holding them, to torturing, to now killing...but that is not what this is about.
My point is, they were not elected to do the will of the people...if the will of the people is not constitutional. They are elected to follow the Constitution and while doing that, follow the will of the people. THe Constitution is the higher calling.
I am not saying what Bush/Cheney did was right, nor was it my point. It seems you missed my point altogether.
Johnnewb 3 years ago
I think in all fairness politicians are elected to do both. Pretty fair analysis. Bush/Cheney definitely didn't follow the constitution.
johnedwards1968 3 years ago
Officials are elected to "DO THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE". Americans got rid of repubs/conservs because repubs/conservs believe that elected officials should do what they believe is right, even if the American people think that what they're doing is wrong. I agree that elected officials should do the will of the people, but I can't think of any official document that says that.
That is why the repubs/conservs were able to get away with the "big brother" approach. Essentially they play the position of "the one that knows best" and use this argument to do whatever they want, against the will of the people.
moulingalette 3 years ago
But what if the will of the people is wrong? The people elected either need to change the constitution or follow it...there is no other option.
Johnnewb 3 years ago
There's nothing in the constitution saying that we can't start a war with... say... England, for no reason what-so-ever other than Congress and the President to. We could nuke every country on the planet, and it wouldn't be wrong according to the constitution.
Right?
ShaneEnochs 3 years ago
Just because something may be legal...doesn't make it moral.
Could congress declare war for no reason? Sure.
However, I believe they would be held accountable for their actions later or their orders would not be followed in the first place. This may be naive, but I believe there is still enough moral (or somewhat moral, if that is possible) people in office where something like that would never happen.
Johnnewb 3 years ago
But you're just flipping what I said.
But that's just my opinion, of course.
ShaneEnochs 3 years ago

Dick Cheney blew up the twin towers so we can invade Iraq and Afghanistan. Protecting us from further attacks... LOL

Of cooourse, Dick Cheney is confident he was successful! His goal wasn't to do good by the world or the US. His goal was to make money for himself, his family and maybe a few of his buddies. In that light, I'm certain he was very successful in his goals as Veep.

To listen to Cheney, he would only consider himself a success if his approval rating was negative. Well, I guess it can't go below zero, but he sure gave it the old college-try.
forgetititititit 3 years ago 3

Palin is the reason I voted for Obama, and Cheney is the reason I would not recommend impeaching Bush.

The system of US government is not a democracy at all nor should it be as evidenced by the fallout from the Prop 8 ballot here in California(gay rights/marriage) where the rights of the few were taken away--that's democracy! The founding fathers hated it.
The United States is in fact a Constitutional Republic.
