Undead, the fire you are thinking of was the famous enduro fire. Totally different. The enduro fire waaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAYYYYYYYYY bigger than this one. The driver of this car was Jamie Grover, and the crash occured in practice.
I assume that the fuel line / tank was ruptured, and kept supplying the fire w/ new fuel. Bonus points if he had an electrical fuel pump installed and it kept running.
they got it out, i was there. Delaware speedway has one of the best fire/safety crews out there. i never saw this, i only saw the car being towed away. thanks for posting it.

If the wrong type of fire extenguisher is used for an oil/gas fire, it will just spread it. Kind of like putting water in a flaming pan of oil.
