My Mom studied in England when she was working towards becoming a Physical Therapist, and she saw the horrors of a Government Owned Healthcare System, and she and I know it was beyond belief in horror. That's why I did not support the Healthcare Plan, and that was in the months before I could vote. Now I can - I'm 18; and in 4 days, I'm voting all for the Republicans.

Well government "intervention in people's lives" has worked in Europe quite well. Most of the European are in middle-class and get free medical and free education. I have listened to their ordinary people and their officials and none of them wanted to go anywhere near the US model. They are all happy. May be this country can use some of it too.

There was this American woman that I knew. She moved to Germany and became German American. She was sick (some cancer stuff) when she moved there. She said she would have been dead if she was in US because things are so expensive here in US. According to her she was getting best treatment while paying close to nothing. I got my ideas from there. May be this happens in Germany only.

Could it also be India doesn't have the headaches of law suits i.e.malpratices insurance, along with high cost of conducting business American style, and along with over regulate government? It is expensive because pharmaceutical companies earn from 500% to 5000% profit. Thats profit which is what they earn after subtracting all the cost. I am with you on law suits. I think it is ridiculous when courts just hand over millions of dollars for little mistakes.

Without profits there is no R&D. These so-called evil pharmaceutical companies spend millions of dollars, and years developing new drugs. Which can be for not if the USDA rejects the new drug. These same company's have share holders to answer to as well. Other countries take advantage of the product, without the investment aspect. You also don't have the same oversight in other countries, as we have here. So yes they can do it cheaper. The issue is more complex then you think.

Your missing point, who decides what is excessive profit. Can you predict the cost they may incur in the future? It is not my place to define what is, or isn't justifiable profit.

Well it is our place, as a society, to define the justifiable profit because we are the one paying for it. These pharmaceutical industries are holding us hostage and I think it is the Government's duty to do something about it on our behalf. They cannot keep charging obscene amounts based on unforeseen future costs.
