  • Great song and a great singer and person. Take a look at John Lawton and Deiggj playing some Heep songs on the Faroe Islands in 2010. Just write John Lawton Deiggj

  • Uriah Heep of Crap.

  • 12 pessoas são fila da puta... e John Lawton é muito melhor q David byron com Certeza!!

  • He sounds like Mark Farner.

  • Самый лучший солист Uriah Heep

  • @Kupinoid

ну да-) а Дэвид Байрон куда?-))

  • @Kupinoid ХОРОШИЙ НО НЕ ЛУЧШИЙ

  • i love it

  • John Lawton is one of the greatest singer in history of rock.

  • @MrGiobyron Yes, he is is very much underrated, but I don't know why. Of course BYRON was the GOD, but LAWTON is still the number #2 best rock singer ever. Sorry Gilan, Bowie and Ozzy.

  • kurva... ten ma prekrasny hlas.

  • can anyone gv me live video of Weep in Silence. i realy lik the raw guitar tone , must be one of the best guitar piece i have ever heard

  • one of my fav song , lawton and his band is excellent may be one of the great lost band of 70's. am simply fan of uriah heep

  • one of my fav song , lawton and his band is excellent may be one of the great lost band of 70's. am simle fan of uriah heep

  • @ooxox4u Uriah Heep goes deeper than names do.all these and Lawton too contributed in the legacy of Uriah Heep. Also if you consider what the3588dawn

said maybe you realize that ideas such that you say makes Uriah Heep be underestimated for their work.Lets keep Uriah in our heart and soul as a unity and not as individual.

  • VERY nice, but it is NOT Uriah Heep! Uriah Heep is Hensley, Byron, Box!

  • @ooxox4u It's funny the difference a singer makes to a band. The same could be said for Marillion when fish left or Black Sabbath when Ozzy went solo. After Def Leppard lost Steve Clarke they still sounded the same with a new guitarist, but a new singer just changes the band completely. I think a band should change their name if they replace the original singer, because you are not getting what it says on the tin anymore.

  • one of the best song, one of the best group , one of the best singer.............

  • You can't stop loving them ....

  • jesus christ

  • "Firefly" was quite disappointing album. The only standout was "The Hanging Tree"

  • Beautiful song, brilliant vocal performance from John Lawton & a rare TOTP appearance for Heep. Bit too much eye make up though John!

  • GREAT SONG!!

  • what a voice...!

  • i think ray stevens "proud to be an american" mgta ripped this jam off! lol

  • john lawton was the best lead singer thanks Paul

  • @luchofigueroa2002 HOLA VIEJO ROCKERO,ME DA GUSTO CONOCER A UN VERDADERO FAN DE LOS HEEP,UNA DE LAS MEJORES BANDAS DE HARD ROCK DE LOS 70'S, Y TAMBIEN SOY UN SUPER-FANATICO.

    SALUDOS Y ROCK ON!

THE WIZARD UNO DE MIS TEMA FAVORITO .

  • Of course the drummer isn't playing for real, nothing is plugged in on these Pop shows, no big deal eh ?

  • Heard/saw his "paying my dues to the blues" (2002!) on a DVD; came looking here for more, more...

He's got a great voice but what really grabs me is his timing and the way he puts his soul into a performance. He's one of those greats who got better over time: listen to more recent recordings and you'll see what I mean. I'm almost ashamed to admit I never heard of this guy before; I'd say he's vastly underrated. Thanks John! I'm a fan from now on.

  • Lawton is a fantastic singer.

But there is a dark chapter in his life. Seach youtube for "les humphries singers" and songs like "Mama loo" or "sing sang song", real milestones in cultural history of mankind ;-)

  • at :50 you can clearly see that the drummer isn't really playing. He's playing the hi hat in the video but all i hear are ride cymbal

  • @scratchnsurf LOL - well duh Sherlock.

  • One of my all time fav songs. Thanks

  • Mi viene la pelle d'oca ogni volta, mitici Uriah!!!!!!!

  • awesome

  • even though byron had a dubious fashion sense he never looked a twat like this guy did. Byron was great by the way, a unique person

  • best band eva

  • John Lawton- to je hlas par exelence. Uriah Heep-hudba, která boří hranice stylů a let.

  • best band ever

  • Got his autograph:)

  • Great voice indeed!

  • So Damn Sexy !

  • Fantastic song and great vocal performance. Music doesn't get much better than this.

  • @dowhatuwill Lawton's voice is awesome in this song! Metal Slut likey VERY much! David Byron was my favorite though. RIP Dave.

  • Great! Seriously. One question bothering my wife is why did he shave his head?

  • lawton is a genius. he has a wonderful voice

  • lawtons voice is awesome! one of the best singers ever

  • DIO and LAWTON r the best voices ever!! Elegance an powerful styles!

  • @faustoj26a I TOTALLY AGREE!!!They are Gods, my favourites, I love them!...And RIP Dio!

  • Thats a laugh..John lawton was around long before Mercury (not puttting him down though)

  • Тhis song is absolutely GREAT !

  • Se perdio el viejo encanto de Uriah Heep cuando llego Lawton, ahora tranquilos vientos surcan el mundo de los Heep, en fin....Extraño la epoca del 70 al 74.

  • John Lawton Voice = The Perfection of Mathematics, Rhythm, Power plus Emotions. He is the Mozart of the Lead Singers...

  • John Lawton Voice = Mathematics, Rhythm plus Emotions Perfection. He is the Mozart of the Lead Singers...

  • What a beautiful era....

  • a mi papa le re gustaaaaaa le gusta como cantaa uriah heep, che alguien me pueden votar???

  • Keep on living low and wanting for your turn

Is the only way to ease your concern

If you want to find your dream for sure

You don't wake up too soon

And you'll find that he's a shooting for the moon

  • Egyptian make up

  • damn good song!

  • truly great band

  • liza2202, я согласен с тебя!

  • What a great live performance. 'sounds very close to the studio version.

  • Lawton was such a great and underrated singer....his work with Lucifer's Friend is still classic and amongst the best of the 70s.

  • @jonsilence Absolutely! I was so impressed by this as a young kid when this was all new, and I still am! :) It is something special when you listen to what you almost got with your breastmilk.. :)

  • @jonsilence Might well be, a 'bit' weak in the charisma department though...he could use a 'wise man' to do his make up.

  • @PAULLONDEN Not from a lady's point though-:) Watched him with my teenage daughter last summer live (2m away from him...); we couldn't help but staring and smiling at him. He's absolutely charming on stage and nicely interactive with the audience, too. He made my summer! UNFORGETTABLE!

  • @peperudi . Thanks..that's a cool rebuttal ;]

  • @jonsilence THE SOCIETY OF JESUS(JESUITS) HAVE BEEN EXPELLED FROM 83 COUNTRIES AND THEIR POPE IS ARAMIS AND HE IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO(GENERAL OF THE JESUITS)

  • the most underestimated band in the history of music....

  • other underrated bands are--GONG, MELTING EUPHORIA, OZRIC TENTACLES, EAT STATIC, SYSTEM 7, DEAD CAN DANCE, SPHONGLE, BILL LASWELL, MOTHER GONG, MAGMA, STEVE TIBBETTS, STEFFI SHARPSTRINGS.

  • @the3588dawn But not in Bulgaria. July Morning has become a cult song inspiring a whole youth culture movement to spend the 1 July morning at the Black seaside ... John Lawton has frequented the event in person for the last few years ...

  • @the3588dawn He is singing fantastic, no one one earth can do this! It is kinda easy for him to reach hich pitches. Lovely! I grew up with this

  • @the3588dawn Michael Tsarion is the worlds premier conspiracy researcher/lecturer/author. Dr. Bill Deagle, Leo Zagami, Jordan Maxwell and Alexandre Dumas pere are highly informative as well. p.s. Melting Euphoria is similar to Ozric Tentacles and Gong

  • tis s perfect^

    i lov this voice^^

  • скажем гениальное начало, голос изззююмительный и неповторимый

  • pre-glam era 70's chic........uriah heep....

  • Amazingly good quality as for that time to record!

  • браво, лоутон!

  • Not only one of the best songs on Earth, but also in our Galaxy!

  • Fuck you all ye "betterknowers"! Always argueing, aren´t ya!?

  • One of the most beautiful voices of rock...

  • superb

  • Sorry to offend but how can you say Lawton is better than Byron, I have seen both in concert. . The original lineup and songs is far superior to anything Lawton did with the band. I can really comment on this as i like i say have seen both line ups and the original artists were electric. But then again i have only seen them 7 times in concert from the seventys to the early eighty's, So you experts will tell me different with all your knowledge that know them from the 2000'sands.

  • I was devastated when Byron left and soon after died. Nobody could touch him. Lawton's voice was just to sweet and plastic like. The music was not the same either after "Sweet Freedom". That's where I lost interest in Heep. Never had chance to see them live, I lived back then behind the iron curtain. I made up for it later with many bands I loved, but never with Deep Purple or Heep. I will always regret that.I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment.

  • maybe but as vocal technique and as voice, lawton is better than byron. Lawtons voice is one of the best.

  • Truly a great voice, somewhat different from Byron, but still a true part of Heeps'History

  • Awesome Voice...

  • nji rock hard grup qe edhe pas35-40 viteve ke deshir me ndegjue .kurr skan me u harrue se jan ma te mirit pergjithmon

  • John Lawton is surely a good singer baut the music of Uriah Heep in the early 70's was really different. If you hear Salisbury how can you imagine that you are listening songs of the same band! ofthey're two different bandu

  • I liked Lawton better in Lucifer's friend. Uriah Heep just isn't Uriah Heep without David Byron. Sorry to anyone I may have offended.

  • uhm!!! Uriah Heep is glam rock???? lol

BAAAHH!!! no pasa nada con john lawton!!!...

  • This song is my most favorite one by UH. And as for Lawton, he still sings great! Have you listened to his song "Reach Out"?

  • IMO John Lawton was not only a better singer than David Byron, he even made a better version of "The Wizard", yet not with Uriah Heep but with another band called "Circle Of Hands" (as special appearance on their album). From all those band vocals of the 70s and 80s Lawton is #1, then comes Coverdale (Deep Purple, Whitesnake), and the bronze goes to Ian Gillan. :-)

  • OH I love this song. Wish they played it live more often.

  • Is this the same guy who sing "Because thats the way it is"?

  • No, I'm pretty sure it's too recent for Lawton.

  • if you mean "the way that it is" from UH, that one was sung by peter goalby on 'abominog'.

  • John Lawton is one of the greatest singer in history of rock. He is better than Byron!!!

  • This song is just amazing!

  • Is that Neville Longbottoms dad? he looks like a sorcerer lol

  • i love mick box

  • Amazing!! i like much this!!!

  • Uriah Heep used to be very popular in the then Soviet Union in 1970s and 1980s!

  • One of the top 5 rock singers of ever.. Listen also to Lucifer's friend, guys.. His band before Uriah Heep

    Absolutely amazing..

  • I saw him live last month. He is still amazing

  • IF YOU WANT IT BACK, VOTE B N P !

    Amazing....

  • Lawton looks so different today.

  • This song is fantastic! I've got to find the album!

  • dieser sänger ist so fantastisch.uriah heep

in der zeit mit john fuer mich die beste formation.das album firefly mein favorit.

  • fantastic vocals! john lawton absolutely SLAYS on this vocal performance...great pitch, control, feel and a cool restrained power. you can tell this guy can belt his arse off like gillan/halford if he wanted to.

  • I love you John Lawton. You're the fuckin' BEST!!!!!!! <33<333<3333333<3333<3333<3333<3333<333<333

  • John fuckin' Lawton.

    The Man.

  • john lawton, uriah heep second best singer.

  • isnt this david byron? Im so sure it is.

  • looks like Marc Hunter?

  • good singer, ugley as a fucking poof!

  • Truly unbelieveble that so many stupid

bands joined hall of fame, as Mick sayed

"it's too sad that we didn't play at live 8"

FFS... they called all suckers and left out

Uriah heep the No1 band whos still alive

    for 40+ years

  • qualcosa di veramente emozionante ottima interpretazione.

  • amazing voice & great great band !

  • this is incredible, i wish stuff was still like it was in the 60's, 70's and 80's, stuff these days are crap

  • Well that's a matter of opinion.

  • I love this song.

  • Saw this line up backing up Kiss , just great , David was quite drunk the times i saw them before , very disappointed for such a great group

  • Женя Лотон конечно не самый лучший, и скорее всего в десятку исторических вокалистов он не попадает, но всё же он очень и очень хороший вокалист и несомненно оставил свой след в истории рок-музыки. Спасибо Джон!

  • Well it's all Greek to me.

  • cool writing...is this Elvish? I love Lord of the Rings.

  • It is a riddle for you: More than 300 million people in the world think, write and speak in elvishlike. Who is these people, but non Elvish? ^^)

  • that's a tough one...are they Druids? Celtic? remnants of an ancient race...I know! Aztecs...no wait, Mayans? Incas? I give up.

  • Hint: In elvish cities drunk bears in caps with ear-flaps stagger on the streets...

  • Ah the land of Borodin, Mussorgsky, Khatchurian, Rimsky Krosakov and Tchaikovsky!!! Got it!

  • You've hit it!!)))

  • Khatchurian was from Georgia.

  • Still say this is one of the Best songs they recorded! Why are they not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

  • awesome

  • I love Uriah Heep, but what's with the makeup?

  • lawton is not byron but he is good songer :)

    great song

  • This was a number 1 hit in Austrailia!

  • uriah heep are such a great band, so meaningful lyrics, exciting music, wonderful!

  • dont be a wimp. You must have believed it when you said it. Great voice, but hes got a head like a swollen tresticle. Big deal.

  • Brilliant voice, first heard him in Lucifer's Friend. He was a MAJOR vocal talent in rock, but was sadly never recognized as such. Thanks for posting this gem.

  • great song! it's sad that most of today's music is so crappy comparing to the bands of 60s-70s

  • What a Bklessed performer!

  • OH MY GOD!! I FOUND IT!! I have been searching for who did this song for the last 20+ years! A dear freind of mine put it on a cassete tape back in 1985 and never wrote the artist or song on it, just put a bunch of songs from different artists on it! THANKS for posting it! Great song!

  • Worse for me!! I never even heard this song then met Sir Bernard and wondered why this song isnt played everyday on all the classic stations. Awesome song. have you heard Simon the bullet freak, Sunshine and Why? UH never play them and they are the best sings they ever did. I hear they are playing Astoria in November.

  • I grew up to be at least half a wise men listening to this song back in the 70s.good song.we dont have such song nowadays

  • fantastic song

  • Absolutely! I especially love the Solina(ARP string ensemble)

  • j.lawton was the best fuckin'singer uriah ever had!!!

    long live the true king!!!

  • Absolutely ! I LOVE this guy!!!

  • As a high school math teacher, I will require my students to listen to all John Lawton songs if they want to pass my class. This guy rocks !

  • Agreed compadre,he was the best,i'm fan club menber.

  • fuck satan and all the world

  • i agree with you...

  • URIAH HEEP had the best singer JOHN LAWTON.... check LUCIFER'S FRIEND... this guy really rocks

  • Good Song.7,5.

  • One of the best rock voices ever!!!

  • too right brox i forgot how good this guy was..pitch perfect fab for rock band..dont rate current singer too much though..

  • Have a look at the clip for "Sympathy"....its a great song as well.

  • Looks like John Wetton on bass - gotta be Lee Kerslake on the drums (formerly of Toe Fat fame)

  • Yeah tha's Lee Kersklake on the drums, but the bassist isn't John Wetton. It's Trevor Bolder

    :)

  • *STAR*!

THAT is the post of the month ;-)

  • BTW Chammy, while you're writing letters maybe you should drop one to Dell too, explaining the reason why I just spat that mouthful of coffee into the keyboard was your post ;-)

  • John Lawton has a very special voice. I wonder why he hasn't won a grammy or something yet? I should have asked him the day I met him on the Ten Fingers (piano bar) show in Bourgas, Bulgaria in 2007. My bad...

  • Should've asked did he front for the band Lucifer's Friend too.

Very similar, not sure look & voice.

  • YES! John Lawton was the singer for Lucifers Friend.

  • Yeah, maby I should have done that too, but I didn't know so much about Lucifer's Friend at that time.

I also shoud've asked him about the unreleased Uriah Heep album Ten Miles High (why it wasn't released, if he had the songs etc.).

  • Its amazing what you can learn around here ;-)

Um, this 10 miles high album ... Supposing that could have had a copyright problem with Dylan/Byrds 8 miles hight title, could it have come out under another header?

  • Perfect!

  • from the fried "firefly" album,,,thanky, i think this guys ok,,nt as awesome as byron tho
