  • An all-times classic!

The most inspiring theme I heve heard.

  • When I was a kid a used to do the washing up with the "Love Notes" tape on. Great solid playing from all the guys!

  • I found out about him from king of the hill he is a great musician

  • dad told me to listen to this,...not bad.

  • Just bought his vinyl at Value Village today had no idea who he was but he sure does kill it, glad I picked it up.

  • For those who wanna know Chris Vadala's (Tenor Sax Player) Set up:

    Mouthpiece: Otto Link 5*

    Ligature: Rovner

Reeds: Rico Jazz Select (Not sure how hard, but I think a 3m)

  • The hair stands up on my neck whenever i hear this tune.

  • This song is the tune that says "never say die" and "never give up". And does so in the most funky and tough way imaginable. Whenever I think that I'm getting beat up and rocked by life I listen to this and remember that I can take anything life's got to throw, and even the toughest times have a glorious purpose, and reward waiting for those who stick it out! . So.... let the glory continue. Rock on !!!

  • This song sounds (Almost) as good as quality propane and propane accessories..

  • Chris Vadala on Sax

  • he looks SOOOOO high....hahaha.....amazing song though

  • @longliverocknroll5 He's loving the music, so he has a good excuse to look that way! I know I would! :)

  • Just so you all know, this IS the ACTUAL recording session. It just sounds a little different because of what the TV mastering engineers did to it.

  • @analyzingfunny what you mean? this is definitely not a playback. they're damn playing the song there

  • @depailler80 All I am saying is...... What you are seeing, is the very moment this song was recorded; it is what you hear on the record. And... it sounds just a little bit different that the vinyl version, because TV engineers compresses it, and charge the EQ usually.

  • @analyzingfunny if you mean this is a live recording yes i agree.

if you mean this is the song on the record, not it's not. it's just a live performance captured by the cameras

  • @depailler80 No, this is what you hear on record

  • He is having so much fun!

  • I been looking for this song for 31 years since it was played at the1980 Olympics thanx for the upload

  • awesome

  • New York based Jazz, 1976 to 1983...one of the golden eras of this truly American art. C Mangione along with C Corea, H Hancock, S Clarke, Weather Report, G Benson, Manhattan Transfer and a host of others were one of the cornerstones of music for its day.

Thank you for uploading this brilliant classic.

  • 4 people didnt give all they got

  • oh how i wish i could play like that sax!

  • that sax solo is sex

  • Chris Vadala, one of the most underrated sax players I've known...Great solo!

  • Good times, wonderful era. A shame that it will never happen again :(

  • @ulicesflores Oh yes! These were the good days! There was such a word as Relax, and liesure in their fullest compliment to such great music of Mangione and Alpert!

  • @ulicesflores. They can always happen again - in your mind and in your dreams. Nothing is ever lost for ever.

  • @ulicesflores. It can always happen again - in your mind and in your dreams. Nothing is ever lost for ever.

  • Did anyone see Chuck bounce a random beach ball at the very end?

  • @DCJTrumpet That's Vadala on sax

  • Just an incredible sax solo there.

  • @hueseph One of my fav sax solos ever

  • @hueseph You can also find a Chris Vadala's very nice solo in the track called "Pina Colada" of the same album "Fun and Games". Greetings

  • @ASRomaAURIAZUL There's a solo in that song? I remember listening to that song but I don't remember ever hearing a sax solo in it or a guitar solo for that matter.

  • @hueseph Sorry I thought you were referring to "The Pina Collada Song" which is totally unrelated. Having a listen now.

  • quien no quisiera estar a la par de este genio del fliscorno o bugle

    interpretando esta hermosa melodia

  • i was looking for a video of this melody, to see if it could give me an insight on how to play the guitar part.. I find absolutely amazing the funky guitar rhythm.. but the guitarist never appears on the foreground on the video! It's unbelievable, given that the guitar provides the driving rhythm.... if someone have a tab or a music sheet, i would be very grateful....

  • I've been a Mangione fan since '78 when feels so good came out. I love this song, but it's got bittersweet memories for me. A few months before this song came out, a woman that I loved with all my heart and soul broke off our relationship, and I was going through the worst part of the pain when this song came out. I was over the denial stage and reality had set in. This song was played constantly then. Oh well, better bittersweet memories, than no memories.

  • Awesome. From the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid. A great time! What a musical inspiration Chuck was....

  • demais

  • Does he still open his mouth like that?

  • wolverine became a jazz musician !! : P

  • MM disappointing I've listened this song several times and I thought Chuck played the leading trumpet in this song and it isn't.

  • haha, it said, "Give it all got".

  • wowowow mmm veryyyyy veryyy beutifull

  • I'm trying to find a Mexican made Chuck Mangione fart video. It's called "El Chucko Farto" It's been banned in the USA due to copyright infringment. "Chucko Farto" was orignally a game show produced by Chuck Woolery in Bolivia.

  • this is it ...best of:l see u CHUCK. in ZAbrze Poland 27.09.2010

  • jazz power

  • hell yeah!

  • can anyone get me the music for this??

  • Classic stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love Chuck Mangione!

  • Couldn't Chuck afford a pee-a-nist?

  • @UpcomingJedi

No need for a penis on this track!

  • @Yorkshirefisherboy Pee-a-nist, thats the guy that plays the pee-ano.

  • Fluge!!

  • this is soooooooo sooo sooo goood :)

  • Need more :-/ .

  • Were you the producer? Love this song alot. Just trying to find ot more about it.

  • This song sounds so good!! I used to love this song back in the 80's. I never knew the name of this song until now (some 28 years later).

  • i love how chuck just looks so happy in this video. hes just really enjoying himself

  • Something I've always wondered about Flugelhorn. Since the lead pipe enters the first valve and the bell exit is on the third which is backwards from the trumpet, is the fingering backwards too? If not, why not?

  • @SotR59

A: Because the total pipe distance, from beginning of the leadpipe to the end of the bell, of both instruments is the same distance.

  • @DancingSpiderman

That would account for both being in the key of Bb but still it seems the fingering would be backwards. Oh well, as long as they do work the same, what ever.

I'm about to get a Couesnon Flugel. The guy is out of town right now and in another city besides. I'm hoping next weekend we can hook up.

  • @SotR59 As far as the key and the fingering of the flugelhorn are concerned, It's not ultimately important where in the middle of the total pipe length the valves are connected, just so the valves are connected together as a group with their own associated three valve pipes. The total pipe length is what is important to the key, and no, the fingering is the same.

Now, if you you flipped the valves and their 3 associated pipes as a group around 180 degrees, THEN you'd have learn new fingering

  • es muy bueno berry good

  • Wow! Incredible! I've been looking for this song, but I didn't know the name or the artist.

  • Excellent find. Waay before my time, however, I am excited to see him perform at the Richmond Jazz Fest!

  • @blownspyder ....I'll be at that Richmond show too. It's going to be a heck of a two day event

  • The sound of the trumpet and the saxophone are wonderful, excellent interpretation.

  • wow Tv going off the air music

  • Pretty good as the theme for the 1980 Olympics. I'm sure the athletes had this in their heads and remembering to "give it all they got". :)

  • @tall32guy That's what Wikipedia said. It was the theme for the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, NY.

  • @antiann52 Yep! I think that's where I got it from. LOL

  • Amen sis, this fusion of jazz and funk filled in the gaps that less adventurious artist simply could not fill. My sister is one hell of a trumpet player and keyboardist who taught me to understand the true passion of good music, ala Mangione, and other clasic bands of course. The melody and rythem are equal in this song, very rare indeed!

  • I had forgotten this one!

  • GOODDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!

  • saxy

  • Simply astounding!!! I love the great groove, yet the beautiful flugal and sax melodies. Probably my favorite Magione song.

  • @Progrose Hey....how's my little brother? If it had not been for Chuck Mangione, The Average White band and Grover Washington we would have missed out on the more serious genre's of music. The Beatles and Beach Boys were great but not the only fish in a bowl of various types of fishes.

  • My favorite jam by him! My Dad was a trumpet player his whole life, very well known in the Tejano music industry. He loved Chuck's music. Thanks for posting....this kinda stuff brings back great memories of time spent with my Dad may he Rest in Peace. Love n Miss ya Daddy.

  • i love charles meeks. great guy-AMAZING bassist.

  • This was the theme for the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics

  • 0 23 1 0 1 2 1 0 23 0 1 23 1 2 0 2 1 1 1 - cornet/trumpet fingerings for the first

  • Comment removed

  • @XDrifter2 expect replace the second 23 with 1 (Bb). he does it so smoooth

  • @theirlinator haha well..

  • Brotha on drums knows how to get down.

  • @Rok2Slayr That must be Jimmy Bradley Jr., if I am not wrong.

  • i just discovered Chuck Mangione... this the greatest thing since slided bread!

  • Música maravilhosa, FUN AND GAMES 1980, todo o álbum é espetacular.

  • and it looks like Grant Geissman on the guitar...

  • Chuck rules!!! Chuck Mangione is to the house music movement, as St.Paul is to Christianity.

    Long Live Chuck!!

  • I have good memories of dad playing this song when I was little over the speakers on the patio. My favorite song by Chuck.

  • who's on bass?

  • @radcam69 If I am not mistaken that awsome bassist is Charles Meeks

  • At 0:49, is Chuck high? Serious question.

  • @James9533 I think that's just Chuck and the way he is when he performs.

  • @tall32guy

    Really really weird...

  • @James9533 Well every one of us probably has things about us that would be considered weird. LOL

  • Awesome song. I have literally not heard this in years

  • whats the name of the saxophoniste ?

  • @AdidasSkate09

    His name is Chris Vadala

  • Great Song

  • I would never have found Chuck Mangione if it wasn't for King of the Hill. This man is a genius.

  • Este tema esta dentro de mis favoritos, si pudiera agregarlos a una lista para la eternidad lo aria.

  • ...abso bloody lutely FANTASTIC, thanks for posting this. It brings back all the memories of seeing them then.

  • 0:49 - 0:55

    wtf?

  • @LordTetsuoShima I'm going to go out on a limb and say chuck did a lot of drugs in his day. The look on his face there was of pure joy. Don't be hatin on his high. =)

  • @LordTetsuoShima My guess would be Maui Waui.

  • @LordTetsuoShima '

    hes happy =D

  • @KHfanguy or packed with acid... but hey, whatever helps the sound, right?

  • @LordTetsuoShima Pure Joy

  • I remember when he performed this live at the 1980 winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY!!

  • wats the name of the saxaphone player??

  • @latinpimp305 i dont know but he is great isnt he

  • God! even this really poor quality video look great using Linux! oh my... Aagin, thanks for posting this. Better get it before thay take it down, then dont tell you where to get a legal copy at. By the way, where in the hell DO you find a good quality legal copy?

  • @analyzingfunny you can find a little bit better version of this on youtube...

  • @moogieinfo i want a free copy! where do i find it?

  • @analyzingfunny um.. linux has nothing to do with it.

  • @ivytreeproductions Uh...Uh..Uh.. I thinlk you misunderstood, but since you want to go there. I can put Windows/Linux side by side on thesame system and Linux look twice as good as Windblows. I take that you are a Windows baby?

  • @analyzingfunny Actually I run a Mac Book Pro, thank you very much. And seeing as YouTube videos are Flash based, as long as both of your operating systems are up-to-date with the latest Flash player release and you don't do anything to purposely mess with the graphics on either OS, it will look the same. That's what Flash is; a consistent viewing experience between platforms, be it Windows, Mac or Linux. So please, get off your high horse (or should I say penguin) and join the rest of us.

  • @ivytreeproductions Damn... you done opened a can of worms, now! I posted a "slight plug" for Linux *within* a comment of mine. You interject with a snotty remark about Linux; thus, me, now we are at this point.

Mac is for losers and about 20& of the user market, not to mention, Apple is obviously gay and has always been gay. Its a gay thing to own an Apple, and dont tell it aint so. At least you gays all get together on one thing and stick to it.

  • @analyzingfunny Whats wrong with this video? It looks fine on my screen, all 80's looking and what not. Makes it more realistic when they didn't have HD.

  • @UpcomingJedi It is a copy of a copy of a copy. The original looks almost hi-def. Thats all I was saying. Cheers/.

  • man his playing is so crisp and clear. love this guy =D

  • whats the one when he goes do do dooo do do do dooo do do dooo like you hear in the show king of the hill?

  • @RussianKid1996 Feels So Good.

  • VIVA EL JAZZ EASY TO LISTEN TO THIS GREAT ITEM Chuck Mangione.

  • i always play this on my trumpet.. love it

  • @XDrifter2 Where did you find it for trumpet?

  • @shutupzeke37 I couldn't find the sheet music but I did find all the notes by my self so I play it by ear
