My great grandpa said they use to do the same thing back in the late 20's, they just were a lot more drunk, him and his friends would get their cowboy hats and jack daniels then go out with their girlfriends and shot their revolvers into the night sky using up any left over ammo they didn't use in that year. I still remember looking out my kitchen window and seeing a biker surrounded by empty beer cans unloading a mac-10 a couple yards away from our house! Glad I don't live there anymore.
Cool. I video taped almost the same thing in Dallas (Oak cliff) Texas on New Years. (On U tube)The weird thing is that I never hear of anyone actually getting hurt by these gunshots. I always expect to hear it and I never do.

exactly when your brought up in the "hood" it's like "oh new years eve is an excuse to test out this brand new 40 cal!!" i used to be excited about it when i was young(any pre-teen boy i know was or is facsinated by guns of any sort)now im grown its like..wtf now if someone was to rob your house later on in the night you have no ammo to use.. -_- pure bs
