I know how difficult it can get to breath normally when a sea creature is right next to you. A shark passed right in front of me in australia and I had to breath normally so my breathing came out all strange. :)

It's inofensive (altough it's huge size could get some trouble to ships if mantas are annoyed). It's food is essencially the same as for walles or basking sharks: plancton.

My take: the manta veered away when it saw the bubble ring, leading me to believe it mistook the human for a dolphin.
