  • Beautiful choreography!!! Well done!!

  • My mum's name is Mairi, its Gaelic for Mary :)

  • Bravo!

  • Who sings this? This is the nicest version of the song I know.

  • My name is Mhari, pronounced the same as Mari.

  • beautiful

  • its very good a good twist on the usual stuff we dancers do well done!

  • and for those who do not recognize the singers,it is the Rankins, damn great.

  • Mairi I think it's spelt-it's my sister's name :)

  • Just saying.

there is an actual highland dance to Mari's wedding.

many people make dances up to it but there is an actual highland dance that goes along with this tune.

yours was pretty good i guess.

  • @XxBabiiAllyxX That would be "Wilt Thou Go to the Barracks, Johnnie?" (or just "Johnny" for short :) )

  • @MapleBok No, she's correct. There's a dance called "Mairi's Wedding" (check the Nationals books). "Wilt Thou Go to the Barracks, Johnnie?" (or "The Barracks" for short) is a completely different dance, which is commonly danced to the tune "The Barren Rocks of Aden" and any other 2/4. Most choose either "Brown Haired Maiden" or "Mairi's Wedding" as their second tune, because they're an easy tune to play.

And good choreography. The arms could do with some work though... :-\

  • that is a good dance i have always wanted to do one of those but never got round to it :/ but thats really good! i love the tune mairi's wedding aswell but its a really hard song to dance to ! well done

  • I feel so blessed ;-)

  • For those not so familiar with Celtic things, It's written Mhairi and this is Highland dancing ("Scottish dancing" as a term generally refers to the country version) ;)

  • this is good!

you can dance to pretty much anything with a strong beat i am a highland dancer and at home i listen to metal music i dance to them!

  • Greetings from California! ^__^

*grins* Hee, I have NO idea how I got it, but I've had this song on my ipod for a while. I'm a big fan of Celtic music, and this is one of my favorites. ^_^

    <3

  • must be Kharma. . .you feel your heritage perhaps. . .go for it. . .it is you. . .

  • I highland dance also, and I was surprised to see people dancing to this song, because another girl thats in my dance group usually sings this song at preformances. I've never seen it danced to before. Props to the dancers, they were great. (:

  • Mhairi's Wedding (same tune and all) is a country dance :) I've never seen it performed to in Highland before!

  • @riggyjones It's a very common Scottish Country Dance, interesting to see it with Highland Dancers.

  • look at those crazy dudes. haha

  • I thought I was the only poof that dances to this, I was wrong...lol

  • Good Job! to the Dancers and to the 'Rankin Family' for providing the vocals.

  • Lol, what if they actually were back stage singing?

  • That's easy!, Because if they were back stage they would nae be singing ,they'd most likely be having a "'wee dram" with the rest of

the crazy Cape Bretoners! , God love'em

  • Haha, well said.

  • I have mountains of respect for people from cape bretan, their the people that gave us bruce guthro!!

Gawd that guys the best singer songwriter, hes just a really nice guy, best singer for runrig I think, thanks you guys!!

Its really finally cool though to see nice talent like this, I take this is from Cape Bretan then? Its really nice to finally have an idea of how big the Celtic culture is over there, I'd love to have a look at the place aswell, RESPECT!!

  • G'day Smith, I can't say if this is from CB or not. I mentioned that the music was 'The Rankin Family' & they are from the Island but I can't say for sure if this was taped there as I didn't post it. It's been a long while since I' kicked up my own heels' lol

    Regards.

  • i enjoyed this fine. ty Horri. Nice voice, but not Scottish? She sings "as well", it's "as weel" i d like to see more videos

  • No it's not. Mairi's wedding was a song written by a Lewis lady, originally in Gaelic.

  • they are all good dancers

  • feel sorry for that guy and the sporran bouncing up and down lol

  • what??!! the women would never hold both their arms up and the men would never hold one arm up! weird!

  • ummm...Idk where you get your information, but as a scottish higland dance instructor, I can assure you that what they were doing in the dance were perfectly in line with traditional dances...its not weird at all.
