Saw this in today's short film festival here at Chennai. Really great with good selection of BGM from Rahman and beatles. I especially liked the the shift in the BGM from dull monotony to a peppy one when the perspective changes to that of the girl.
Similar to your explanation, I saw the umbrella to represent a moment of time- an adult thinks how well he could "use" it to achieve some "result". A child with all its playfulness just basks in that moment relishing it completely.
