  • 1:28 I can barely understand that man!

  • I wonder if we will ever have another Giant Restored? If so what do you think?

  • life was hard on the crews when EMD built the F2 all steams where scraped today only diesels run on our rails.

  • @geomodelrailroader For the most part. I'm going to be watching 4449 run this coming July. :-)

  • @JETZcorp LOL 4449,#844,and #3985 are the only steams on the system

  • @geomodelrailroader I'm lucky enough to be in Portland, so if 4449 ever moves and I know about it, I can usually see her take off.

  • @JETZcorp LOL I always look a schedule to see if a steam is on the line

  • @HaloCE14 I presume you're referring to Tornado 60163? That was pretty much a volunteer build, not really intended to be the next new thing. I've heard, however, that there's some small-scale steam locomotive production going on in Switzerland for rack railways. They also re-created an old German 2-10-0. There's also the 5AT project, which is looking for someone with a spare $16 million at the moment, but their idea of a highly modernized steam engine looks good.

  • @HaloCE14 Honestly I think it could be done. The main problem with steam is that you've got to stop all the time and pick up more water. Well the only reason you need to pick up water is because the engine is blowing it into the air, and where is it written that you need to do that? I say just feed the used steam through some new pipes and into a heat sink so that the left-over heat gets put into the boiler and the used steam condenses to water. Pour that back into the tender, and repeat.
