The oilers will win again, as this great player has shown Edmonton and it's love for hockey will soon once again be home to some of the greatest hockey players on the planet. Most of that dynasty team still works for the Edmonton oilers and every now and then you see in the paper Gretzky or Messier are in town visiting there old stomping grounds. The fans believe it and the city needs it, Gretzky and the boys gave this small northern Alberta city hope when everyone counted us out. The great one
@murphyt12 Even though they're a last place team, the Oilers look as though they're headed for good times in the next few years, as long as the current owners don't do something stupid like sell the team to some guy in Hawaii or Mexico. There's a lot of really young, really talented players on that team.
The soviets pass the puck better then gretzky because there a communist team you see, soviet style hockey is basically a communist style of hockey, all pass the puck and share the puck then we all succeed together as a team.
@joecobra1234 Yes, too much of a coincidence in him packing his bags for L.A. immediately after getting married. The industrial city of Edmonton probably wasn't glamorous enough for her, but Pocklington probably wasn't innocent in the matter either.
This is why I don't like Pocklington. After Wayne won those Cups with Edmonton, he decided to trade the Great One to LA. Still though, Wayne was amazing in the U.S.
I saw Gretzky live in maybe 8-10 games. One game was when he was with the
Kings where I think he had 3 g & 1 a. I was sitting in front to the left of one of the goals. The Kings had a power play and Wayne was just in front of the goal about 10 feet to the side of the net, in front of where I was sitting. The puck came towards him fast, about waist high. He lifted his stick and deflected it in the net at a TERRIBLE angle. And it was REALLY quick. Just one Gretzky memory.
It's funny that Mario Lemieux says Wayne was the best who ever played the game and then in another interview Wayne says Mario Lemieux was the greatest hockey player i ever played with lol.
Mar-11-84: Van 2 at Edm 12 R.I.P Ugly Uniforms Pt. 1
Nov-8-85: Van 0 at Edm 13 R.I.P Ugly Uniforms Pt. 2
Mar-14-86: Det 3 at Edm 12 R.I.P Ugly Wings
Dec-6-87: Min 4 at Edm 10 R.I.P Even Dumber Stars
Gretzky was at the forefront of many of these massacres, including 3 goals and 5 assists against the Devils in mickey mouse pt. 2 (Kurri had 5 goals and Lindstrom had 3 in this game also). Coffey 2 goals and 6 assists in the Mar-86 game vs. Wings. Total annihilation.
I know I'll get roasted for bring this up. While all of this is true, and I loved watching those Edmonton teams in theior heyday, Alan Eagleson's no-hit Gretzky rule helped out a lot with some of those high scores!! I said this on another page, and I believe it needs to be said: there were SO many times opposition players could, and should, have pasted 99, and they mysteriously pass him by or give him a love-tap. 99 was protected by up on high by the prince of darkness (Eagleson).
too bad bobby orr wasn't around to humiliate the wayner a few times. Of course, the oilers being the no class franchise they were, they'd probably send cementko out to sucker bobby for making the wayner look like a pimply-faced wimp
Gretzky's years in Edmonton were fabulous but the fans can never forgive Pocklington for trading him in 1988. That was unspeakable truth to Edmonton fans' ears. He was supposed to be untouchable but in the end he was not.
he got icehockey back in america as a tv/event. made NHL better and more people started playing in US. great infuence for the american hockey kids. why did he stop while playing for the Rangers and not Edmonton? they didnt take him back after LA as they could. he did a lot in Edmonton but he did a lot for icehockey in USA.
Pocklington didn't hold a gun to Gretzky's head. Gretzky left willing, most likely as part of a plot to expand the NHL in the SouthWest. It was a business move for Gretzky. Gretzky sold Edmonton out, but in the end, professional sports is a big scam anyways. Today's NHL looks fixed, especially in the Cup races. The bring two Alberta teams to the Cup finals within 3 years, and both loose in Game 7? Come on. Something stinks. Bettman is a shyster.
5:27 those two Canadiens were two busy watching the puck

@okpapereat your talking as a team. NO PLAYER PASSED AS WELL AS WAYNE. I don't think any soviet player of any era would disagree with that.

Gretz played his whole career (from the age of 5), with a big bullseye painted on his back; and still forged all his accomplishments.
And now you're gonna to come on here and bitch and moan b/c "maybe" some players didn't take his head off when they might have had the opportunity?
I've got an idea, why don't you seek Wayne out and clock him one. I mean really lay him out. That'll show him.

Gretzky and Oilers destroyed opponents unmercifully:
Oct-31-81: Que 4 at Edm 11 R.I.P Nordicks
Nov-25-81: Los 4 at Edm 11 R.I.P Lost Angeles
Nov-29-81: Edm 10 at Win 2 R.I.P Winnie Pooh
Dec-17-82: NJD 4 at Edm 10 R.I.P Mickey Mouse Pt. 1
Jan-12-83: Edm 10 at Chi 4 R.I.P Indian Head
Jan-15-83: Edm 10 at Min 4 R.I.P Dumb Stars
Nov-2-83: Was 3 at Edm 11 R.I.P Top Defensive Team (Langway, Murphy & Stevens)
Nov-19-83: NJD 4 at Edm 13 R.I.P Mickey Mouse Pt. 2
