  • Interesting...while African-American girls are wearing their hair natural, the African girls are not. They had weave styles before the Americans. For those who are down on AA women who chooses to wear relaxed hair it is pointless. It is beautiful that we don't have to wear slave plantation hair, if we choose not to. It is also beautiful if natural girls prefer dreads if that is what they choose. Thank God for choices!!!!

  • I believe that everyone is beautiful and they should wear their anyway they'd like.

  • I'm a man & I always searched the stores for a black doll. My daughter might've had a white doll once, but not from me! I'm not racist @ all just feel like a black woman is beautiful! I wanted her to understand that, that white doll is not better than the black doll to me, cause that's not who you are! I wanted my kid to be proud of who she is!

  • Yikes! this is scary stuff.

  • Foolish Kids black is beautiful they are foolish very very foolish

  • @amjera1 they are not foolish, you can't blame them for what society is teaching them.

  • Black is b'tiful. Yoou have 2 be prooud of ypur btuful skin. I luv ma black family nd friends how they.r :)

  • I love being a black female

  • i agree with someone on here thats not a question that you would ask a child..."which one is good or bad???" thier children i dont think they normally think of that question when they think of dolls and for them to ask that TO ME was wrong. just ask which would you rather play with....that would have been just fine

  • this white ppl racist's shit ugh! pls my real dark/brown skin black ppl wake f'ck up!

  • What the hell is wrong with these psychologists?!?! It's obvious that most of then would chose the white as the "good".

But it has nothing to do with "black" and "white". Is LIGHTNESS and DARKNESS. Like day and night. Lightness means purity, it's clear, it's day like, you can see, it's revealling. Darkness is scary, you don't see it, it's dangerous.

But the color of skin has evolutionary reasons, not moral reasons.

Cruel test. Really cruel. And stupid.

  • For years I was bullied for being mayan, and felt sad about it, I wished to be white-ish like my mother, today as a grown up I feel proud about my heritage, thank you for reminding me this fact. Love from México

  • Powerful stuff.

  • I love this.

  • AW FUCK NO! I am going to raise MY daughter to know and embrace the fact that her kinky hair and skin is BEAUTIFUL. This is sooo sad. Screw all this skin bleaching cream, the ignorant name-calling among our race, and the whole bullshit notion of not wanting to marry a "dark skinned" man. My boyfriend is fine as hell and blacker than my damn shoe and I cannot wait to marry him and have beautiful black babies with him someday. WAKE UP BLACK AMERICA!

  • Also, I'm not about to hop aboard the train about being African and I'm not angry or anything. When the slaves stepped off the boat, that was the beginnings of them creating Black culture. It's nice and all if you want a connection with your African ancestry; however, it's an insult to the struggle of our predecessors to assume that we have had no culture for the past 200 years. Humans adapt, culture is not static; as I recall, we Blacks are human.

  • I really feel like there needs to be a stronger voice for this problem. America is the supposed melting pop of the world, but if that's so, why do other cultures seem to get compromised in this "White World"? This is all just a goddamn shame. The quest for self-identity is expected when you're growing up... But while being ashamed of your looks that extend from your culture? Ugh...

  • This mentality goes on in a lot of Non-White cultures but not to the extent that it does in the United States. In many of the Asian countries, people desire to be White. India for example is one of the countries where some of it's people invest hundreds of dollars in bleaching creams. Many Asians have plastic surgery on their eyes. However, the people in these countries fall short of looking at themselves in a negative light. I'm sorry, but I hold Black Americans responsible for this.

  • How sad!..Yet still prevalent today as it shall be tomorrow!

  • Great documentary :) The girls at the beginning speaking are so confident and beautiful!!

  • Sayids: "We're not smart, we're this way we're that way, and a lot of times we have to prove ourselves as not being true". 'We have to prove ourselves as not being true'? Perhaps she'd be better able to make her point if she had even the basics of grammar. What she said didn't even make sense. Sure, I knew what she meant, but is she wants to prove that black women aren't uneducated, it might help to take a grammar course, and not say things like "prove ourselves as not being true'. I can't

  • @ginandmixers No, it might help to understand the socio-economic issues that continue to affect African Americans on a daily basis. I was raised and educated in New Orleans, LA, and I went to one of the best public high schools in the state. African-Americans living in the 9th ward (if fortunate, that is) were stuck with small schools with little resources and inadequate teachers, if any. The ethnic divide remains an unresolved issue in the U.S. as the educational gap continues to widen.

  • i've always acknowledged that there's more than 1 type of beauty. i dont get why its so hard for some people to accept. i see more of the "wanting to be light" thing from indians, especially. i find it really strange. and how a lot of white people are obsessed with tanning, too. everyone looks good the way they are

  • this is weird. im dark skinned black and have never even heard of people wanting to be lighter IRL, only from what i've seen online. i've always lived in diverse communities, but with mostly whites and asians, generally. and i had white barbies, too. i don't think it's had any negative impact because i like the way i look. i think its less to do with skin color and more to do with facial features, because you can always change your body with exercise, but not your face.

  • i Love this video. it just tells the truth about some of our African american mind sets.

the ending just goes to show what the females go through for beauty lol.

  • Black girls date white women for this reason: Clean up.

  • @ShutDaFuxxUpLOL WOW! What do you mean by "clean up"?

  • it's a learned attitude and behavior, because of fears and misunderstanding, shouldn't exist, but it does, from the top of our governments down the line, on every level, and every country, iv'e been giulty of it, because of my peers, now, i'de happily remain alone then do what my peers want me to think. i Love all people of all creeds and color.

  • narcoleptic clown-

You have not even mastered spelling or grammar. In your post, you wrote the word "your", when it CLEARLY should have been the contraction "you're". How can you claim to have any validity after that?

  • Proof positive that 60 years of pandering to blacks with bussing, affirmative action, welfare and Section 8 has made no difference in negro self-perception. The "Doll-Test" by the Clark boys is a fraud and Brown vs Board of Education is an abominable joke.

  • @billsixx your an idiot. everything that you stated has absolutly NOTHING to do with African-Americans. Affirmative action was put in place so all MINORITIES had the same chance as whites to find a government job or go to a government run school (IE: A STATE RUN SCHOOL). Welfare and Section 8 both take in ALL people with low incomes, this does not just focus on minorities. so next time you open your ignorant mouth do some research.

  • This video absolutely breaks my heart!

  • oh my gosh, what in the world is wrong with our society.. all poeple come from black ancestors.. that has been biologically been proven.. i will never let my kids grow up thinking heir black color is not worth.. black is beuty

  • when I was a little girl I thought the black plastic dolls were pretty ugly but I much preferred the black MyChild doll I had to the white ones my friends had. maybe some of these kids think white people are nicer because there are an awful lot of outspoken and rude black people around them? or maybe the dolls themselves look mean?

  • when I was a little girl I thought the black plastic dolls were pretty ugly but I much preferred the black MyChild doll I had to the white ones my friends had.

  • This is the root of ((MOST)) perms, blonde weaves, and IR O.J. Simpson style dating only to breed lighter babies.

  • You are an American. For the majority of whites, the most they know or care to know about their heritage is the country their ancestors came from. Not a lot different than knowing that blacks came from Africa. The whites that lose sight of the fact that they're an American above all else are the whack jobs with their heads up their ass. You don't want to be like them.

  • those little girls are so smart

  • if you're born in American than you're American.. who cares where your ancestors are from.. by digging at your roots you're only feeding the 'us' and 'them' mentality.. that's why racism still exists.. everybody is so determined to 'label' themselves as something.. be happy to be American.. but more important you're a part of human kind which is the only race really.

  • @frenchiman55 That is ignorant. Cultural pride isn't the reason racism exists. Racism didn't exist until caucasians were created.

  • @AncientsReborn But it's continued on by all races... when you teach a child to look at someone not your skin color as bad because of past misconceptions and treatments you're teaching the child to continue racism. In a sense it is cultural when anyone thinks because they are a certain skin color they are stronger or prouder. That is not the case. I'm black and not because I'm black do I consider myself to be proud or strong etc, but I do because I have a great education and take care of myself.

  • @AncientsReborn Wrong again.

  • this is such a sad video, but i am happy that it is made,to show how reality looks like.I'm a 37 y old white man from Germany.Since i am little,i found black people much more beautiful than myself, but understood that i can't change it.when i was 12 i told my mom that i will have a black wive&mixed kids.next spring i marry my ugandian girl.just found her after years.what i just wanna say is:look in the mirror&start to understand how beautiful you are!its sad:racism destroyed the real picture!

  • :c

  • Pfft... If someone asked me that as a kid, I would've said the black one~~ JUST because she looked more like me. Unless the black doll looked really ugly in the face. XD However, my favourite dolls were very multicultural because my favourite was always the newest doll in my collection or whichever looked the most unique. Ha.

  • the lightskin chick with the dreds is hot

  • Is that Wahida from Jumpoff?

  • omg this is shocking!

  • Damn!!! How is it that those young children were injected with self hatred. Is the parents?television?? Wow that's pretty heartbreaking

  • My fiance is black, I am white, and if we ever have children, I will encourage my daughter(s) and/or son(s) to love their father's race and know that dark is beautiful.

(Of course, we're only 17, so obviously I'm not having any kid's for a while... )

  • Google

    parents-react-to-child-race-doll-test-and-some-of-them-are-proud-while-others-cry-video

they ask the same question in a non bias way and kids picked the ones that looked like themselves as good-(which is normal) -And one little girl said none of them are bad because color doesn't matter - so it's not as hopeless as you think - from this particular test it seems that... it reflects on the parents teachings or lack of teaching, that affects how the kids view skin color. - god bless USA

  • The test is shocking but bias.

The kid has to pick one or the other. Then they show us the ones where the kid picks the dark one cause it makes their point. They don't show you the kids who choose the other way around. The questions leads the kids to make one good and by default the other becomes bad. the question should be (point at one doll) and ask "is this baby good, normal, or bad" the kid might pick one as good and the other as normal or both as good. ect.

  • @upupsteru yeah but we know 15 out of the 21 preferred the white doll.

  • When we classify one thing as beautiful we make other things ugly. She might have got different answers if she asked, which doll looks like you?, first. then asked which one is good or bad. What i see here is a lack of education, or education from tv news and or movies. try this test on african kids or kids born in the amazon, who don't have tv's or movies. I would like to see them educate the little girl and try this test again, the best answer would be they are both good cause they are babies

  • are black americans orginally not from ONE african country?

  • @dedejunior No my friend. they came from many countries in africa and in those countries from too many different tribes to list here. all with their own customs and language.

    Senegambia (Senegal-Gambia) * 5.8%

    Sierra Leone 3.4%

Windward Coast (Ivory Coast) * 12.1%

    Gold Coast (Ghana) * 14.4%

Bight of Benin (Nigeria) * 14.5

Bight of Biafra (Nigeria) * 25.1%

Central and Southeast Africa (Cameroon-N. Angola) * 24.7%

tribes SENEGAMBIA: Wolof, Mandingo, Malinke, Bambara, Papel, Limba, Bola, Balante

  • @dedejunior tribes Fula, Tucolor

SIERRA LEONE: Temne, Mende, Kisi, Goree, Kru.

WINDWARD COAST (including Liberia): Baoule, Vai, De, Gola (Gullah), Bassa, Grebo.

GOLD COAST: Ewe, Ga, Fante, Ashante, Twi, Brong

CENTRAL & SOUTHEAST AFRICA: BaKongo, MaLimbo, Ndungo, BaMbo, BaLimbe, BaDongo, Luba, Loanga, Ovimbundu, Cabinda, Pembe, Imbangala, Mbundu, BaNdulunda

  • That Wahida is beautiful. All these girls are beautiful

  • i look at it at skool it not right teach them they hostory

  • Most people are completely blind to this - I have seen studies such as the doll test. people will never admit what a profoundly negative effect the media still has on African-American children even to this day.

People who claim that "racism is over" are the same ignorant uninformed idiots who believe that the playing field has been level for all ethnicities for the past 400+ years.

  • Wow that's really sad....the children deny their color... heartbreaking

  • the scene with the little kids is pretty depressing, racism reaches all adults but i didnt realise children that young were so affected so strongly also

  • WOW! Tha doll scene blew my mind!! My mom told me the other day that I alwayz preferred the white doll. I was never raised racist. I have natural hair, engaged to a white man but I never hated dark skin. I LOVE LOVE darks skin... now. We have to train our kids from jump that we are ALL "nice". We have bad in all races. We still have alot of work to do. That hurt my heart, how slow the girl slid the doll that looked like her. I would have to have a few LONG talks with my baby after that.

  • @sterlingking

Wont chang anything. Your child is half white. Why would he/she pick their black half when even their own mother didn't?

  • THIS IS WHY BLOODS AND CRIPS HAVE NO PROBLEM KILLING EACH OTHER!!! fROM A BABY THEY HAVE ALWAYS HATED THE IMAGE THAT LOOKS BACK AT THEM IN THE MIRROR....

  • Now that I watch this video, after knowing about it for 3/4 years now, isn't that Wahida Fowler? It just clicked with me that that's the now model Wahida. Wow.

  • Stop it! All you people are beautiful! Nicer than a lot of white people out there!

  • That is so sad. Be proud of who you are, you have all the reason in the world to be!

  • That was sad when she asked the little girl "And, can you give me the doll that looks like you"

The little girl called the black doll ugly, but she knew that it looked like her.

    It's terrible! =[

But I always wanted white dolls too. Especially Barbie, because she had blonde hair.

  • I want to thank these beautiful young women for their honesty and the filmmaker for shining a light on things that need discussing. I believe that open discussion is important. When Obama gave his race speech as a candidate, he asked us all to talk about our perceptions openly and not pretend that race problems over. Thank you.

  • younger looking longer*

  • btw, women in general are looked at as less than. Not trying to make this issue less than it is...but i mean....I just wish that when talking about this issue, it could be more of a "not only am I looked down on for this, but also women have it hard in general". I feel like sometimes when some , not all, and not that you do this...but I sometimes feel like black women that talk about this always think the black man is perfect...and the white man isn't . Well, I consider all men to look down

  • sorry, a lot of men, not all, to look down on women and treat us different, no matter what our race is. So, not all men...i'm not bashing men, but everyone knows it's true that women are not considered equal, that's all.

  • but of course you have it harder , aand i'm not trying to deny that

  • I don't tan simply though much cause of wrinkles. And it's so true about black don't crack....they just simply stay younger looking younger. That's not a stereotype, maybe some don't but the majority do. Anyway, this summer i want a tan but i haven't had one in years, and i also didn't wear shorts either lol.

  • I was watching this being nosey cause i saw a group member post this somewhere in one of the atlanta groups on a site ...and there is a group about this issue in atlanta. Anyway, at first i thought it was sad about the kids picking the white doll (because all of them did)_ when they were black, but i also wonder if some did because of the contrast since they are just kids and are curious. I know there are race issues and kids get it at an early age....but when i was little i was intrigued by

  • races that are opposite of me...and to this day i am attracted to latin people. I had at least one black doll as a kid and i loved that doll a lot. So i just wonder how many of them simply liked it because it was different than they looked. But yes i realize that media glorifies lighter skin, and not just white, lighter.....lighter black people too.

  • it's all silly and contradictive though cause as a white person...i feel i need a tan in the summer, and have been told i look like a ghost (and mostly by white people). And that my veins were showing lol. So people in general are just stupid. They don't know which they liek better, neither is better.

  • hell chase bank had to apologize for supporting slave owners..our souls are lost and all you can say is get over it..you will never ever in a million years be able to understand the pain and brainwashing that a black soul has. Now entertain that..

  • now all of a sudden where one..their shouldnt be race..when they created this shit..puerto rican wasn't even a damn ethnicity let alone the island..places didnt have boarders..europeans invented that shit..and white people scream we are the world and still benefit off what their ancestors did..

  • im annoyed reading these comments... @NathanlovesShanese...who created race and barriers...go ahead answer the question..dosnt it suck to know that now all this ugly racism is out and damn near every race in society blames the white anglo saxon race for opressing their people..

  • 4:05 Goddess

  • This is sad. It hurts to see how ignorant society can be.

  • btw, Jennifer is darker skinned (who cares!), but well spoken and sounds educated. She doesn't say 'like' and 'because' to substitute another word that she can't think of, like lots of young idiot people do thesedays, white or black. She can express herself very well. That is what young people should be after, forget the rest!

Terrible that most kids sound like bumbling idiots, and can't create a complete sentence without using 'like' & 'you know' & 'it's like, yeah ... you know' :(

  • Well, young woman out there are the mothers of the future, and I think most of what we think of ourselves comes from the education our mothers give us at home. TV and movies are ultimately 'controlled' by who allows us, as kids, to watch them. At least nowadays they make toys for almost all races, and actors come in all colors and flavors.

  • his tape was really sad! First let me tell that I am a white female. But to all of you black people out there I want to say that do not try to be another person than you are.Instead be proud of being you! Each one of us are unique!Be proud of being black as I am proud of being white.Remember you are somebody important regardless of the color of the skin!

  • This is a fantastic video because it confront us with a mirror. It definitely hurts to see how white orientated our society is, our people, but only confronting the facts we can start a change.

    Thanks for this work!

    .

  • Woa.........

This is very pathetic and horrible. I hope that with some black example leader like Michelle and Barack OBAMA, we will stop to criticize ourself like this. I just want to cry. We need to fix what we have in our head. Come on, this can not take too much time like this.

  • This made me cry. I hope people understand where African American women are coming from now....I know they wont but I hope they do and stop judging.

  • Comment removed

  • oo its very sad :(:(

    i hate this fact!

  • this is so true!

  • This is sad...because I remember when I was little and they came out with the "Generation Girl" barbie..and my parents ALWAYS bought me black dolls. So I had the black doll, Nichelle which had this kinky hair...I used to comb it out and put products into it and try to straighten it as much as possible *sigh*. Of course I accept my blackness now but Its crazy looking back to that.

  • thomasward00, you just posted your opinion and you're entitled to it.

This the truth as it occurs to YOU.

The shame of this is when people see someone else and says that another person is prettier or better than them and attach a value to that beauty/quality as above their image of themselves.

This is self hatred, plain and simple.

For black people, it is the ugly legacy of slavery, Jim Crow and apartheid that has shaped our self image.

    Terrible.

  • I agree that Thomas was ignorant; however, it's time to get beyond the stigma of slavery. The black people have been free in the USA for over 100 years; what other country has enslaved them as a people? The tragedy is that they were sold by their own people. When I look at black people, I don't think SLAVE. What hurts the black people is the welfare mentality that is so prevalent. That is about all I see in our community, sorry to say.

  • @thomasward00 It's pretty pathetic to know that the world still hasn't evolved passed this kind of behavior.

  • Who cares about your skin colour... it's how you act out in the world that really should effect the people around you. Honestly? If racial stereotyping didn't exist, things would be so much better today.

  • Im a black guy and I dont feel at all like this. Growing up I always had black role models in sports, music, movies, etc.. that i looked up to and wanted to be like.. i dont have an ounce of hatred in me and it hurts to see these poor girls admitting that they hate themselves

  • I would like to point out that all of the decent arguments on this video that aren't all "omg White people, we hate them, they treat us so bad" or other random shit has been negatived so they're not viewable, there is no better way to show you're wrong than to hide the opinions of others.

  • I'd never known that there was such things as ''good hair'' and ''bad hair'' until I decided to go natural

  • Two words young ladies...

    Micheal Obama

  • You are beautiful!~ unique, joyful, inspired and intelligient! Powerful!

  • These Girls have to know that they are beautiful just the way they are! Love themselves for th e spark, joy and strength they possess.

  • This makes me so sad. I had no idea it was still this bad.

  • even tho im arican, i dont have kinky hair, or dark skin. not that i think that something with wrong with kinky hair or dark skin, but just letting you know that not all africans look the same. do some research on North africa or East Africa.

  • i live in the west but originally from Africa. i know why these girls feeling this way. is because they don know their roots. as in which country of Africa they from. Africa is continent with many different cultures, languages, and religious. i hope these girls find what they lookin for. i was truelly touched by that video. thanks for posting it.

  • i guess that's their reality

  • i'm coco and men love me, be yourself

  • have you ever heard that what you focus on grows? shift your attention to freedom, peace and love and see how your perception of life changes.

  • If you think that there is no slavery in Africa now than you are an idiot. 75% of all chocolate has been processed by some form of slavery or indentured servitude, if you actually go to the Ivory Coast, they don't even try to hide it, you just have to know what to look for. In Mauritania, old style slavery is still rampant. Although there is still blatant prejudices in America today, I honestly think that if you believe that the standard of living is higher in Africa than you should open a book.

  • Damn i feel so sorry for black people i wish i was black :(

  • fusufusu is nothing but a white devil. Do not pay any attention to no white man that teaches us Nubians to hate our origin in the Motherland presently called: AFRICA. This is our origin, Africa is the birth place of all people & races. There is no damn slavery in Africa. Africa is suffering because of Europe, America due to colonization and them presently sucking the natural resources from our home country: AFRICA. Amerikkka is named after one of their europeans who hated us Black people.

  • Comment removed

  • @saanetershuffle

sorry but i have to say that no one is getting anywhere ith opinions like yours.of course, there is a lot of truth in your words.but this is not helping to hate back.tell me what fifty cent is doing, wearing diamonds&gold from africa, ignoring&not reflecting that his black brothers in the age of 6 get it out of the mines.what about south africa were lighter africans believe to be better than darker once.it is not possible to save it buy planting hate.we have to find other ways.

  • I lived in Africa for a long time...I will tell you...you are not African!! If you knew Africa I don't think you would want to call yourself that. You are American like I am and everyone else in this country. Who cares where your ancestors come from. Start loving yourself and your country. You are so lucky to live here. Africa is a very very racist continent. Where slavery still exist and female circumcision is very common.

  • And my country(America) only enlisted the civil rights movement a couple of decades ago. Who cares where my ancestors come from? educate yourself, open you're mind. We were born into a country that was built of the backs of ancestors, raised to be told we were less then and no connection to where we really come from then someone such as yourself telling us to forget it and embrace the country that send death threats to Obama because his skin isnt to their liking. It's not a cut and dry situation

  • Victimizing thing? I kind of agree. If anything, I think it's mostly done for attention these days. I am black too, myself (My family is Jamaican, I was born in NY). Mostly, other African-Americans that stick with that do it for the attention or are brought up that way. They're the same ones who DO do those same bad things as well. The only way to actually get rid of the stereotypes and such is to quit whining about it and actually try not to be what they're accused of!

  • So you're saying that we're "playing the victim" by recognizing that black women are considered less than other women even in 2010. Why would I want to get attention for that?

  • I think the girl at 3:07 skin tone is beautiful.

  • Slavery is very much alive today. Not only in physical forms, but in mental forms. Your mention of 200-odd years ago shows how little you know. The fact that you are able to identify your FRENCH roots speaks volumes when Black Americans can only claim Africa. Africa is SO diverse...one country in Africa alone is probably more diverse than all of Europe. I wish I had more than the word limit I'm allowed to begin attempting to educate you, but those who are not open to learn never will. God bless.

  • IF YOU HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT IF BLACK PEOPLE STOPPED TALKING ABOUT THE PREJUDICES WE EXPERIENCE, THAT RACISM WOULD DISAPPEAR YOU ARE VERY MISGUIDED AND ILL-INFORMED. BLACKS ARE NOT THE ONLY RACE WHO DEAL WITH RACISM AND WHITES ARE NOT THE ONLY RACIST! The truth is as long as people like you exist, racism and division of race continues. Ignoring it does nothing.

  • you know what, I'm going to humour you.

What racism have you been subjected to? Go on, I'm sure you'll either make something up, call me racist or just not reply.

  • There is nothing to "humor" me about! Go look up the defintion of race and understand that we are all different. Are we all one human race? yes and I would like nothing more than to be seen as one race but that is not the world you live in. And trying to be rude and insult people that are telling you how they feel is stupid. The fact that you would even say that I would make up experiencing racism proves my point that it still exist. Why would assume that I would make something up?

  • , as long as people like you exist, people constantly highlighting the differences of race then we will NEVER been seen as the ONE RACE we truly are.

    Allah go with you.

(My comment was too big for one box)

  • Or that I would call you a racist? And to inform you rather than "humor" you, I have experienced prejudices, whether it was growing up and hearing that I act "white", or that I was pretty "for a black girl", or the frequent statement of " I didn't really like black girls till I met you". Instead trying to convince us that race doesnt exist try seeing life from another persons prespective. No one wants to experience racism but that doesnt mean it exist.

  • Yes and I've faced prejudice too for fuck's sake, seriously, you think you have it so bad just because you're black? Last week these guys tried to start a 6 on 1 fight with me because I have long fucking hair and dress in black?

What's your point! You didn't face racism you race subjection.

That person may not find black girls attractive, I tend not to find Asian girls attractive, am I racist?

You might act with, that's a fucking opinion, NOT racism.

    Jesus Christ.

  • Please replace "with" with "white". Thank you.

  • And the purpose of the video was to give insight into what young girls are feeling not to come and degrade what they feel. And no one in the video said "all white people are racist and to blame for how I feel" They simply expressed how the world they live in and people's preceptions in life affect their own.

  • Same if a young girl says she feels like she has to be sexual because thats what people tell her and it's what she sees, or the young muslim girl who may feel worried in expressing her faith because of the people who will strike out against her for something that has nothing to do with her and their own stupidity. If you really have an open mind take the time to see life in its true form and not the way you want to see it and then disregard everything someone with an opposing view has to say.

  • You are entitled to your opinion but that doesn't make it fact. At the end of the day, Racism still exist and recognizing that is the 1st step to overcoming it. God Bless You!

  • PLEASE EDUCATE YOURSELF. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THAT THE FREE EDUCATION YOU GET IN AMERICA WAS PUT TO SOME USE! Black people can not be put into one big group and assume we are all the same and "playing the victim". You're comment alone shows the separation people feel in America. We do not want to be ONE RACE! I am happy to be black but I will recognize the things I am forced to overcome that you will not. That is not playing the victim!

  • Ignorant post is ignorant.

We are one race whether YOU like it or not, the people who say "the black race" or "the white race" are racists. There is no such thing as these races there is ONE race - The Human race, we are all merely variations of it, am I a different race to my mother because she has blonde hair? NO, so why the fuck is skin colour any different? And don't say shit about what you've "been through" 'cuz you have NO idea how other people live, fucking arrogant fool.

  • Hey itchychinaman, When you can spell SCHOLARSHIP properly then perhaps you will be qualified to comment on the intelligence of others. Enjoy your life of ignorance. Love and Peace

  • Wow - this comment is completely ignorant ! However, you have a right to feel like this, its your opinion even if it is a load of crap , and Negros ? its the 21st century , let's be real ! Get with the times and educate yourself on the topic before you criticize ! Thankyou and God Bless !

  • I think you are completely a despicable human being for your comments and no matter what you are and where you are from you are mixed too! I don't even want to know why you refer to yourself as "ichy".

  • NO they are not ALL white!

  • The kids section is Ok, but the revelation to me was at 5:00. I never even considered that black people may also feel alientated because many may never even know what their specific cultural heritage is. I can talk about things about being Asian in America that make me upset, but at least most of us can affirmatively say we're Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Thai, Malaysian, etc. Slavery may have ended, but if anybody still wonders if it has any long-lasting effects...

  • she is half is mixed= 50% white 50% black

why she have to bee just black???

  • That's what I don't get either....I guess she's suppose to forget her other parent.

  • Have you every heard of the one drop rule? It says that just one drop of blood makes you black. That was during slavery days and it still stands today. Biracial kids are treated just as fully black kids are: like second class citizens. So maybe she relates more to being black than being white and privileged. Just a thought...

  • you said that they are treated like that, but it doesnt means that its right . I found it very sad to drop one side of a family because of society who see them just black.

  • I didn't say that it is right I just stated a fact. Besides who is to say that she denies her European roots? Do you know her upclose and personal? If she identifies more with being black then can that be her choice and nobody else's ? Maybe she identifies as black, but still likes THE GAP(lol)... poor attempt at humor, but seriously you act as if her identifying as black hurts you... It's HER identity... Let's try to destroy this racism in the world not her identity... I'm thru wit it!!!

  • Than you for making this heartbreaking but incredibly necessary documentary. Thanks to all of the beautiful young women who agreed to talk in the documentary.

  • hummelbee3, stay on track of the video...pay attention to the video, this isnt about you, you are not the victim, those girls in the video are the victim, pay attention to the issue going on.

  • It's a darn shame! The girl picks the white doll as better and the so called black doll as the bad one...then turns around and has to pick the black doll when asked which doll looks like her! I guess she's bad too! It just shows that black children are conditioned at a very early age to prefer lighter or white over their own color/race! T.V./Media is a major problem 2 day that is helping to enforce such self hatred, but slavery had started it all! Always love yourself, that's first!! Peace!

  • @charliemaebrown

You are so full of crap. You are going to blame the media? Kids these age watch cartoons and sesame street. Your saying educational cartoons brainwash kids? I think you need to place the blame elsewhere if there is any blame at all to place.

  • @alexcowart You are full of crap!! You have to be a total lame brain to not know that the media has brainwashed our world to think/believe what they want us to! What the hell do u think subliminals in tv ads etc. do?? Wake up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @charliemaebrown Sure the media is biased. Part of being an educated citizen is thinking and making decisions for yourself. Raising your kids on a television is pretty stupid anyways.

If you honestly believe the TV is full of subliminal messages and control peoples minds, I think you are the crazy one. Kids are impressionable so teach them good values and don't rely on the tv to do it for you.

You don't have the right to complain about TV if you don't monitor what your children watch.

  • @alexcowart You've got it all wrong! I'm not complaining, i'm commenting on a video! Do get so worked up about my comment! Keep watching tv through blind eyes, it's your choice!

  • Color and race are irrelevant - were all beautiful in our own way - we all add something to this world. Remember, the grass is always greener on the other side. Love the gifts God gave you! :)

  • "Who taught you to hate yourself?"-Malcom X. All I can say is that I'm white, and it wasn't me. I'm also gay. Did I get the message that I should hate my sexuality? Ya. Am I strong enough to love myself regardless and tell the assholes that judge me wrongfully to go fuck themselves? Hell yes, I am. And racism goes both ways, too. It's just as painful. What you need to do is stop blaming people, and surround yourself with people who make you feel flawless and beautiful.

  • watching the doll scene, made me cry. it was just so sad....i hate it when people say racism is over...its so obvious that its not...

  • Thank youvery much for this beautiful video!!!!

  • Part of the difference is that your ancestors CHOSE to move and give up a part of themselves. Most black Americans had it ripped from them instead. It's insensitive to pretend that doesn't make a difference.

  • oh my god, that part with the kids picking the dolls is just heartbreaking. i almost cried.

  • i remember when i 1st locked my hair, my father thought i was on drugs and my mother told me t get extensions on them. neither of them have any hair to be telling me what to do with mine so i kept them even tho it wasn't popular in women. I wanted something natural that represented MY hair My texture. and i could take care of myself. 8 years later not a day goes by that i'm not happy i accepted my beauty ^___^

  • 4:26. LUL

  • thank you

  • I agree

  • Thanks for this but its Very Sad.

The child absorbs the media driven idea of beauty - theblonde with perfect white skin. at 04;47 the girl is asked to choose which one is like her, she looks like she wants to pick up the white doll but her own skin colour compells her to choose the doll she has already said she doesnt like,

This is terrible. Its even worse that awareness of this is so low. How can things get better if we are in denial about the nature of racism?

  • So what if it creates an emotional response. I think that&#
