Every guitarist has a different sound. For me, I think Trivium's display various different kinds of cultural and artistic sounds. Children of Bodom's are much more to show off what they can do, as well as still having a massive artistic value. Synyster Gates, for me at least, is the master of emotion. Each fret that he presses, you get a true sense of anger, depression or happiness depending on the song. Guitarists simply cannot be compared.

@sicness10 They were getting bad service from the Dean Company, and Dean Zelinsky left the company. The quality of their guitars have gone downhill ever since. They returned to the companies that endorsed them previously which is Gibson and Jackson for Heafy and Beaulieau respectively

Just that, 'cause I don't even consider him as an influence or anything. Honestly, I really like the way that Beaulieu plays. He's kinda' an influence for me :) Definetely better than Syn....
Syn. Gates sucking Corey's balls because he doesn't "gets out" of chromatic scale... Ouch... unfortunately, for AX7 fans, of course, that's true... As guitarrist, and musician in general, it's OK to use the "tools" (hoping that you have more than one...) you feel confortable with but, you also should experiment and try new stuff... and mainly get better and better, don't stay with the old stuff and always evolve to something better... or at least different...

Not too sure why people are arguing about Avenged Sevenfold in a Trivium video. Also, just an observation, but the rhythm guitar during this solo (and, not that I think about it, the main riff of Forsake Not the Dream) both use a chord progression that Avenged Sevenfold use as well (the A-B-Db, though Avenged play almost exclusively in drop d, so the chords are all a half-step higher).
@Kwyjibo2006 Sister Gays has NEVER used any scale outside of chromatic scale. Fact. Corey played at 53 and Sister Gays placed at 66 in Joel McIver's book The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists. Fact. The one time Sister Gays did a sweep outside of the chromatic scale, on a video not in a song, was when she fucked up on the Lydian Mode. Never does any exotic sweeps or wide stretches. Doesn't have the talent, like Corey and basically EVERY other metal guitarist does.

@Kwyjibo2006 You're speaking of Kirk Wahmmet since he sold out. He's not a bad guitarist. He's not good, but he's not bad like Sister Gays. He's at least original, he used to be a chromatic scale gaybasher back in the day as well. As in, he would gaybash chromatic notes with his fingers quite often. But he could at least play in other scales too. And he didn't pass himself off as more original for his chromatic solos. Anyone can do those. At least penatonic has some taste.
I don't understand the hate here. My three favorite bands are A7X, Trivium and Children of Bodom. Quite frankly, when it comes down to sheer technical ability, Alexi Laiho is better. But comparing Syn and Corey is stupid because they enjoy different styles and play comparatively unique music. As musicians, I would not hold any one of the three over the other. They are all fantastic musicians, they all make brilliant music, and that is all there is to it. Can we get along now?

Furthermore, I have not seen Corey play anything that would make me consider him more talented than Alexi. Nevertheless, this entire discussion is moderately subjective.
I was talking about Alexi Laiho... Who I would say is not as good as Corey any more. He's gotten sloppy, which considering how ridiculous Bodom used to be (Bed Of Razors, nuff said), is a bad thing. He can't really play their stuff live any more. Corey, I'd say, is just getting better and better despite me not being a huge fan of Trivium.

Bed of Razors is one of the most commercial Bodom songs and far from his most technical work, so I am still thoroughly confused as to how you have determined his sloppiness. Furthermore, I still do not see how Corey could appear more technically skillful than he was previously if he is writing simper material. Good material, but simpler.
@metalguitarist321 how do I know? I've seen them live, he botched quite a bit. And yes, Corey did botch that sweep - but as you said, everyone makes mistakes. I'd be willing to say that there's a difference between flubbing one note and messing up a more considerable amount. I've done both, playing the same solo at two shows on consecutive days One time I had it near - perfect, the second I basically missed every note in a run. So yeah, everybody fucks up at some point.
@slanderoushalo I have seen both bands live as well, and I would still argue that Alexi's solos are more difficult. Does that give him an excuse to mess up? Nah, but I still see him as the more technically skilled player. Corey is definitely a clean player on most occasions, but it's easier to play material cleanly if it is... well, easier.
@slanderoushalo In terms of my own case of initial support, Corey botched a fairly simple sweep at about 38 seconds in this video. Everyone makes mistakes, but his sweeps are nowhere near Alexi's.

@slanderoushalo I do not understand why you would make that statement. He neither lost talent nor became incapable of expressing it. Is your opinion stemming from dissatisfaction with their latest album? This Trivium album is less technical than Shogun, and I would not consider Corey less talented. Furthermore, I have not seen Corey play anything that would make me consider him more talented than Alexi. Nevertheless, this entire discussion is moderately subjective.

I was talking about Alexi Laiho... Who I would say is not as good as Corey any more. He's gotten sloppy, which considering how ridiculous Bodom used to be (Bed Of Razors, nuff said), is a bad thing. He can't really play their stuff live any more. Corey, I'd say, is just getting better and better despite me not being a huge fan of Trivium.

Bed of Razors is one of the most commercial Bodom songs and far from his most technical work, so I am still thoroughly confused as to how you have determined his sloppiness. Furthermore, I still do not see how Corey could appear more technically skillful than he was previously if he is writing simper material. Good material, but simpler.

@metalguitarist321 how do I know? I've seen them live, he botched quite a bit. And yes, Corey did botch that sweep - but as you said, everyone makes mistakes. I'd be willing to say that there's a difference between flubbing one note and messing up a more considerable amount. I've done both, playing the same solo at two shows on consecutive days One time I had it near - perfect, the second I basically missed every note in a run. So yeah, everybody fucks up at some point.

@slanderoushalo I have seen both bands live as well, and I would still argue that Alexi's solos are more difficult. Does that give him an excuse to mess up? Nah, but I still see him as the more technically skilled player. Corey is definitely a clean player on most occasions, but it's easier to play material cleanly if it is... well, easier.

@slanderoushalo In terms of my own case of initial support, Corey botched a fairly simple sweep at about 38 seconds in this video. Everyone makes mistakes, but his sweeps are nowhere near Alexi's.

GAY7X are so far behind that they've never been able to leave the chromatic scale. And yet they're over-glorified. Both of Trivium's guitarists, Matt and Corey, can shred fast AND TASTEFUL in various scales and modes. Matt and Corey can BOTH sweep in scales and modes outside of chromatic. Sister Gays can't leave the chromatic scale. Nuff said.
