Something is probably not right. It does reduce the preamp volume a little. You can raise the Drive knob up to compensate, but it should not affect the tone significantly. Are there any other mods done to the amp?
@BitMoBruce no other mods I will try adjusting the drive.I followed the directions to the letter.Clean install well made kit thankyou for the reply. I can always remove it .
@BitMoBruce I tryed all different settings still muddy. reverb works but it takes alot away from the tone of the handsome devil. think twice before you spend the money on the reverb mod. I will be removing it tonight and tossing it . expensive lesson for me. Thanks Bruce
Are you sure it is working right? I have it installed on my Handsome Devil and I love the sound of the amp. I like it better than my Fender Deluxe. (But then I also have the Dapper Devil mods installed too.)
@ronecat I put the amp back up on the bench last night to re-check the difference between the stock circuit and with the reverb connected. With reverb, by boosting the gain knob one notch and the presence knob 2 notches, I was able to match the stock sound. If you don't get similar results, something is wrong.

Hello I installed the reverb kit in my handsome devil now the amp sounds muddy volume controls on guitar are week is this normal. any help would be great.I tryed to contact you threw bitmo web page but didnt work..??
I took my Blackheart Handsome Devil and downgained the preamp section with Sylvania 7062 SQ's (tall-bottle military 12AT7). This keeps the amp clean to about 8 on the gain. From there I use a BitMo modded Behringer VT-999 Vintage Tube Monster Pedal. The combination is incredible and, tonally, it makes the sky the limit in terms of versatility.
The Handsome Devil out of the box is very retro in tone. Add the tubes I mentioned and the pedal and you have a killer rig.
Yes but to be done properly would require powered relay switching which I consider too complex and expensive for this amp. I use a BitMo modded Behringer VT999 overdrive pedal which has similar voicings to these mods.
@BitMoBruce Hi Bruce your website says that the kit "Upgrades all coupling and tone capacitors."so how can stock be stock?
I am listening through some sprectrum EQ'd studio monitors and to me the "tweed" sounds muddy and the top boost OD fuzzy rather than smooth. Maybe it's the mic or recording also low definition audio codec at 240p doesn't help. You need to record HD video to get a better youtube audio codec but most important are what is your recording mic and is it clipping?
@EntertainerCentral Yea i agree, the "tweed" does sound muddy. I was thinking it was going to sound very clean because you said there was way more headroom. Is it just the recording? I'm thinking of buying one but i don't know for sure yet since the tweed isn't very clean
the tweed setting is awesome !

The instructions contain diagrams and are very detailed. Lots of novices install my kits with no problems.

Do you think it would be possible to make an effects loop mod for this amp?
Ilovemyfender2 2 years ago
I plan to have one soon.

If you make an effects loop mod you will be loved forever an ever (and I'll buy one off you =)

I'm guessing that you're bypassing the tone stack for the 'over the top' setting?
deftonesordie 2 years ago
oops, I didn't finish the video in time!
guess so!
deftonesordie 2 years ago
That is part of it. There is also a mid boost.

The mod kit is $39.95. It revoices the preamp section making it much more versatile.
