@maiwandi2. The villain was a moron. The Romulans hate the Federation too; so why did he not give them the advanced tech? They would have given him Spock's head on a silver platter. In all of Trek's history no one was given his own command strait out of the academy, even if they saved the earth. Even Wesley Crusher had to go to the Academy to make his field commission a full commission, and it was his invention of the Auto Frequency Rotating Phaser that gave them the edge to fight the Borg.

I have one question; maybe someone could help me understand. I liked the movie, don't get me wrong...but what did Elder Spock propose to do with throwing the red matter into the sun? Sure; it would stop the sun from going super nova and destroying Romulus...but then there would be a black hole which would be just as bad...Or, if there wasn't a black hole, there owuld be no ore sun...

star trek was the best made movie this year. i mean rellay, it was full with adventure, humor, some romace, and feeling. and what's interesting is that it's not a prequel to the series. it could start a whole new series. and plus, the cast were great at their parts and were really into them. and i swear, no one can replace this movie. so don't say anything or do anythin
i really don't get the whole Spock-Uhura bit in the movie, since spock says in "Amok Time" (the one where spock thinks he killed kirk) that his parents and arranged a marriage for him long before he would have been old enough to join StarFleet, and when (in Amok Time) he was asked who the Vulcan woman was who contacted the ship, even though it was b4 the ceremony Spock said she was his wife.
He called her his wife because he was going to marry her. She wan't TECHNICLY his wife yet. And imagine, you have an aranged marrige. You still may flirt a little in a moment of weakness. nothing seriouse really happened, a little kissing.either way, in "Charlie X" you could see plenty Spock-Uhura flirtation going on,
Yeah, it's not your (or my) father's Star Trek. It wasn't perfect, but it captured the essence of the original series in my opinion. For its naysayers, I pose a single question:
Leonard Nimoy gave the okay, and believed in this movie enough to be in it after eighteen years of refusing other Spock reappearances. If it's good enough for HIM, then it damn sure better be good enough for you.
@HellsOnlyBelle nimoys trying to make money off the movie, hes not an unbiased critic. of course he's going to love the film, he wants to make money off it LOL. better than some of tng's fair except first contact, still terrible. star trek 11= star wars episode 1.
@HellsOnlyBelle I disagree, respectfully. This film was another case of Hollywood taking something that was already good and glamorizing it to make it sell. I don't care if Jesus Christ gave the okay for it, it was just an abomination. It violated so many canon story lines. To a real ST fan, it's a slap in the face. For example, Kirk was born in Iowa. Even without the Nero time lime alteration, his mother wouldn't have been on the Kelvin. The whole thing was just one big action packed mistake.
@shaindaman13 Is it possible that they were on the way to Earth, where Kirk's mother would have given birth to him, when the attack happened? That the stress of it all sent her into slightly premature labor forcing her to give birth in space rather than in Iowa? The medic promised her she would be alright but said nothing when she asked if the baby would be too. Why promise her safety and not the babies unless they were concerned for the baby in some other way outside of the attack?
@kellbell79 I suppose? But Damn, it just left too many things screwed up. I guess one would just normally think if a time changing events occurs then everything in the normal time line is exactly the same right up until that very second.
@shaindaman13 I agree with that, but if you are counting from the second of the time change then it starts with the second of the first appearance of the Romulan ship. So the attack itself could still be the thing that changes Kirk's birth. Just speculating. As far as other things being screwed up, I've always been just a casual fan of TOS and The Next Generation so any other discrepancies in the time line would be something I wouldn't be able to really point out. :)
@kellbell79 Yeah, I see where you're coming from but I was thinking that was the first appearance of Nero's ship. Maybe I should just watch it again. For all my bitching and moaning about the thing, I have to admit I was in line to see it the day it opened and I have the DVD too. BTW, I think you are the first chick I've ever talked to about Trek. Star Trek - Behind the Scenes: See how we trashed a classic TV series! I garintee that once people who love this movie see it on the small screen, and realy pay atention to it, will realize how bad this film realy is.
it isnt BAD. I loved it. And william Shatner and Lenard Nemoy gave their aproval. so if 2 people who where in the show thing the movie is good, whats your problem?
So because two celebrities liked it Every one must like Garbage? Skunk Beetle pudding is Obama's favorite so it must be great! or Real Poop Pie is the Clintons family favorite so it is the best! Get a brain. Don't like it because some actors who played the parts liked it. Like it because, YOU like it. I just don't like bad scripts and Giant plot holes.
jeez luise with a side of peas and shreaded cheese! so much anger! I like the star trek movie cause i thought it was pretty darned good (my fave this summer). 2 actors who did the show that inspired this movie thought it was worth doing. It makes sense that it isnt total crap because, unless you are the directo or writer for Star Trek TOS, they probably know more about what would make star trek good than you do
Gues agian. Have you read any of Shatner's Star Trek books? The only thing he gets right is that Kirk is not a hate full person. His ST books are bad. As for Nemoy he likes the film because he is in it. He is in it because photographic art does not pay beans, he needs the money. it is not anger. I just want you to stand on your own. Be your own man don't listen to spoiled movie stars. You like it? fine but like it because of you not some one telling you "were experts so like it". "GET A LIFE!"
woooooooooow....deep breaths....calm down.... Honestly I enjoy the movie. The movie is actually why I started liking and watching Star Trek TOS. I refuse to be my own man because I am female, and why did you put quotation marks around 'Get A life"?
First off stop being politically correct, man is short for mankind. Second saying "Get A Life" when telling off a Sci-Fi nerd, everyone knows that you have to put quotation marks because William Shatner said it first.
ok........... well FYI man means a male. you could have said "be your own person" but that really doesnt matter that much. Either way I have only actually known what star trek was for about 3 months so im not to much of a Sci-Fi nerd. actually i think star trek is the only Sci-Fi thing i really like. And i have no idea what the william shatner reference is. elaborate?
Way back in 1986.William Shatner was invited to host Saturday Night Live. He hated the fans asking him stupid questions. So SNL made a sketch Showing how Shatner felt about the conventions. After politely answering questions he said "Get a life, will you? You turned what I did, as a lark for a few enjoyable years, into a colossal waste of time!" "Its just a TV show!" Fan:"Are you saying we should pay more attention to the movies?" Will "NO! That's not what I'm saying at all! Can you believe.."
Incorrect assertion. The word Man is a noun, meaning explicitly the male human. Mankind is used to refer to all humans, ergo its existence in the English language. In the run-on sentence above, most readers would infer you assumed the reader is male. Would it not be easier to show maturity, and admit a simple mistake?
So, if man is not short for mankind. That would mean that a bull is not a cow, but it is a cow yet it can't be a cow if man is not mankind. Illogical! Illogical! Please explain! Please explain! (Wire shorts out and explodes, smoke rises from my head.)
these guys have got it right. star trek is like a great slab of marble. underneath all of the lore and the history and the continuity is a work of art waiting to be discovered. you have to know what to chip away and what to leave. these guys get that.
Shatner's part could only have ended up being a flashback since he died in ST VII: Generations. I'm actually happier that Nimoy was the only previous cast member on this film. It took about eighteen years, but I'm glad to see Spock Prime in the franchise again.
oh my gosh, I saw this yesterday and I thought it was absolutly amazing!! I've never once seen an actual star trek episode but this movie was really interesting. The actors were really great to! loved zachary quinto as spock :D
The movie was fun I guess and everything but these guys definitely didn't make this for the fans. My Dad had me watch Trek as a kid and this definitely isn't loyal to that. They changed things a great deal. Characterizations, ship designs, history, hell even the noises. This was made more for the non Trek fans. This was made to make a lot of money and a lot of people don't watch Trek. This was made more for them then anything. It was fun but these guys need to be honest on who they made this for
Spock had red blood not green, kirks was named Jim in the beginning of the film, not James" somehow the producers fixed it". The writers took the TNG intro and used it at the end of the film not the origional intro. Checkov in this film over did the accent, and the hair color and style did not match the origional. not to mention checkov appeared in the middle of the second season. "He was never part of the origional crew" The idea of spock and ohura as lovers is sickning.
OK, if you'd payed attention to the film you'd know this was an alternate universe. that's why Lenerd Nimoy's character was refered to as Spock prime & not future spock.
A tribble is a small, round, furry, alien animal that does nothing but eat, reproduce, wiggle around and purrs similar to a cat when it's either eating or when someone pets it. They're kind of like large, furry nerf balls. They are used as pets. They were introduced to the Star Trek universe in the classic episode "The Trouble With Tribbles". It's one of the most comedic and lighthearted episodes of the original series. They also appeared in the animated series and as a cameo in Star Trek 3.
Just watched the movie, and the action, special effects, & acting were good. BUT the story line was TERRIBLE. The person who wrote it must have really HATED Gene Roddenberry. It's basically telling you to essentially throw just about all of Mr. Roddenberry's work in the garbage and rewrite the entire 40 years of his work. The writer & producer couldn't have done much more to defile his grave.
when i was sitting, I was like "wait- is that- it IS!" at which point I grabbed my boyfriends arm and was like "omg it's Cameron!!!!" which makes her four times as cool then she was before- and not only am i huge house fan, but a "hameron" fan, so you know lol.

hmm watched the movie last week but didnt notice a tribble, when was it in the movie?
EverTheOptimistCJ 2 years ago
The Tribble was on Delta Vega when we first meet Scotty in the Starfleet Outpost. The tribble soundFX were even in the BG.

It was much better then expected. I especially the actors. The big Nooo was Vulcan.

I saw it last night, and I'm a trekkie, and I thought it was great!

"He was never part of the origional crew" The idea of spock and ohura as lovers is sickning.
movie was a bomb

wow, you give trekkie a whole new meaning...

OK, if you'd payed attention to the film you'd know this was an alternate universe. that's why Lenerd Nimoy's character was refered to as Spock prime & not future spock.

Hey, whats a tribble?
jestegloria 2 years ago
