i use a wifi enable win 7 laptop.i set up a wireless ad hoc connection and connected it bt it shows no signal strength.and my smart phone couldn't detect any wifi network.what can i do now.pls help

@shuvo666brutal are you trying to get internet access on your smart phone using the ad hoc connections? The ad hoc connection will not give your smart phone wifi access, sorry

@youngfighter If your computer is connected to an ad hoc connection, it will NOT be connected to the internet.

I'm trying to figure out if these computer to computer networks can only work within range of the wireless signal? Like if my boyfriend set up an ad hoc network at his house then I went to my house (We live a bit of a distance away) would this computer to computer network still be able to work? Stupid question, but I don't know anything about this stuff :P

@katweetybird To answer your question, the ad hoc connection will only work in the local area network. This means that have to be connected directly to the network that the computer that created the connection is on (or in the range of the wireless signal of that network using a router). Therefore you cannot connect to your boyfriend's ad hoc network from your house.

First of all sharing the internet and adhoc is different. To set up an adhoc file sharing network; You need a wireless device on all of the computers that you want to connect. The reason why there is no adhoc option is because the computer you are working on doesnt have a wireless reciever. It doesnt matter if it is connected to the modem or not! Either buy a wireless usb device or a wireless card. And then follow the video.

To set up internet sharing - click start-network-then click on add a wireless device at the top of the window. It should detect your wireless device.

Go Control Panel/ Network and Internet/ Network and Sharing Center/ Set Up a Connection or Network. You'll find the ad-hoc option from there.

Make sure you are using windows vista and your computer is ad hoc capable. If you do create and ad hoc connection, you will not be able to go online. You will only be able to connect to the computers around you that have connected to the ad hoc network you created.
