This is the greatest horse race I've seen. To have three such outstanding 2m chasers around at the same was fantastic. Moscow Flyer, Azertyuiop & Well Chief are the three best 2m chasers I've seen over the last 20 years.

For me, Master Minded produced the best 2 mile performance of the last 30 years, but Moscow Flyer would've beaten him on every other occasion. He was a machine

@08DENMAN Defintely agree, and great name! He was just seeing if he had to even rev the horse up, probably expected to win on the snaff. He has said Big Zeb is in the same class as Moscow Flyer, so you know what to do come Champion Chase day.

@JacobMilner Big Zeb is nowhere near as good as Moscow Flyer or the two behind him...NEVER! Flyer is one of the greatest two milers of all time. Azertyuiop is the best chaser Nicholls has ever trained imo yet not good enough here & I was a big fan of his.

this was the best race i ever saw, the 2 young contenders put in their places by the mighty moscow. give me a top class champion chase over the gold cup any day, 1 mistake and the game is up. i love it !!!!!!

katuo star is not a good 3 miller denman showed that hes beat extioc dancer in the gold cup it turned into a sprint up the hill he should go for the ryanair cause denman is to good for him if it was a kempton my money would be at kempton cause he has won 3 kgs

i agree. i dont think kauto can beat denman around cheltenham in the gold cup. denmans style of racing is always going to put kautos jumping and stamina under major pressure. the gold cup kauto won was not the greatest and was run at a crawl. if denman had ran in that race the field would have been strung out like washing and not bunched up like it was

Well i'll be honestly suprised if denman gets back in top form but i hope your right. I love watching denman run. He's such a stag went jumping (excluding aintree) but there might yet be a few new horses in the gold cup next year that could make it a very interesting race.

one things for sure. denman has to be ridden more agreesively than he was in the gold cup this year to be seen at his best. i dont know if he will be ridden like that next season. i certainly hope so coz like you he is a joy to watch when he is galloping and jumping from fence to fence.

im looking forward to seeing how coldine gets on against the big boys next season. he looked very good in the sun alliance and as we saw this week, notre pere is a force to be reckoned with on soft ground

I'd be on same opinion to you. I love to watch denman jump and run. He's a machine(excluding chelt and aintree) and as for cooldine, he was a bitter disapointment at punchestown during the week. I had a 500 treble with hurricane fly(which btw is a machine) masterminded and cooldine. Waiting on cooldine and he finishes no were. Bitter dissapointment with him but then ruby walsh didnt really try with him. No suprise there.

there is no doubt hurricane fly is a machine. was very impressive during the week. when you consider all the winners mullins/ walsh had its ironic that what looked like mullins/walsh hotpot that lets you down.

what did you make of the guineas today? i backed rip van winkle. it ran a good race considering murtagh had ot switch him round the whole field. is he an epsom horse?

Newmarket was a very good day for me. I had 30 double with ryan moore on confront at 8/1 with infriaad at 5/4. Had the winner of the guineas. I put 50 e/w on kinane at 10/1. I was talking to kinane during the week and he said that he had a huge chance on him. He said he was a machine. His word is usually spot on. He said the derby was there main target and on todays run it speaks volumes. 100 on photographic at 3/1. Today was a good day but as with gambling they don't always happen like that.

And i rate rip van winkle very highly. He will defo come on from that run. O'briens horses just haven't been firing that well this season. Rainbow view tomoro is one of the biggest certaintys. He's 6/5 now and i put 500 on him before i left the bookies today.

you are dead right about good gambling days being few and far between. only had one horse on (rip van winkle) but got footy coupon up for £300 and my ante post footy bet came up today for another £600.

i put a ton on rainbow view tonight before i left the bookies but i missed the 6/5. i got 11/10 on her which isnt much worse. she looks a good thing to me. only horse i could see beating her doesnt even run (fantasia)

also backed rip van winkle for the derby at 10s as the likes of betfred were only going 5s. however whether he stays or not is anybodys guess. id say he will stay 10f no problem but 12f is a bit of an unknown but i think its worth chancing at 10s as if he runs i tihnk he will be shorter on the day.

sea the stars was impressive today. on breeding you would say he has a good chance of getting the derby trip.

Well kinane was saying to me that there running sea the stars in the guineas cause 1. they think he'd win and 2. cause it will give them a good indication for the derby and tell him where he's at and how much training is needed. Judging by his win he'd seem to stay the trip and rip van winkle wont have a problem with the trip. He's a good bet as long as murtagh gets him settled in behind the front runners. If he does that he could possibly win it easily.

How anyone can call Best Mate over-rated is beyond me!! Ill thought out joke comment fuelled by envy & ignorance no doubt.

Winner of three GOLD CUPS & a King George - a remarkable horse!! Most owners would give the right arm to have a 179 rated horse (just half a stone behind Dessie!) like top class Best Mate!!

I would say though that the above race was probably the best quality 2 mile chase I have seen thus far in my lifetime.

You are ignorant to the challenges that a Gold cup offers..it is run at high speed throughout on a stiff & demanding undulating track with tough fences.

It brings often horses together, despite ratings. To win the race once is tough (Desert Orchid/Kauto Star...even Pendil never won one!!)

Thus to win it three times is truly amazing.

The staying chase rank has been horrible for ages now.... that is a fact. The 2mile division remains the best and the above video just proves that.

I would say Kauto over 2.5m to 3m right handed is probably best we have seen since Dessie, Captain Christy & Arkle.

He can only beat what is around nowadays & tends to do so with ease.

As for Denman, another 180+ chaser & potential great, few would argue he is an outstanding dour stayer, if lacking the natural class Kauto has displayed in recent years.

I would agree though that the above race was very special, bang there with the Monksfield, Night Nurse, Sea Pigeon (+ cast) trilogy.

Last year Kauto 2nd, finishing a neck in front of a good handicapper...the year before he had an average & inconsistent handicapper just a few lengths behind in third..both those horses he just beat were far inferior to Sir Rembrandt & a whole host of top class Irish stayers Best Mate beat each year.

Best Mate crushed some of Irelands best in great style & to win his thrid Gold Cup he was nearly knocked off his feet at the top of the hill yet still fought back to win showing a great turn of foot for a stayer. These are speed horses thus they will look more impressive...I guess Desert Orchid's 'grim' slog to beat Yahoo didn't do much for you either or Arkle's 'grim' efforts carrying 12st 7lb in handicaps???

i agree with you foriamonlyahorse. people seem to judge best mate as being over rated but only great horses win 3 gold cups. people say what did he beat? but look at the horses kauto star has beat. the 2007 gold cup was a very average renewal. there wasnt one past godl cup winner (kicking king, W.O.A), the seond and third favs were exotic dancer and state of play and a monkey like turpin green was a close up third. that is what you call a poor race.

That said the Gold Cup is a strange race. It is uniquely tough & it brings horses together as not all handle Cheltenham that well (12 year old Dessie was beaten 15l into third by Garrison Savanah who failed to concede 5lb to Seagram, a horse that prime Dessie gave 35lb & a 19l beating!!)

Classy Kauto though certainly would have given Moscow a beating over 2.5m I am sure but over 2m I doubt it...the above race is one of the finest 2m chases I have ever seen.

yes this race was a superb race and one of the best of all time. moscow, azertyuiop and well chief were all top class horses and in my opinion moscow was the best of the three. i think moscow would have beaten kauto over 2 miles as well.

the gold cup is a very gruelling race. it is usually a true test of jumping and stamina and there is usually no hiding place for anything. it shows how hard a race it is as it has proved a dificult to defend. i hope the mighty denman wins it again next year

Moscow Flyer never got the credit he deserved because of the overrated Best Mate who beat trees in his gold cups.

Moscow Flyer was a true steeplechaser. The best of my generation.

The bloke who reckons Moscow Flyer would give Arkle two stone...great sense of humour!! Even over two miles Moscow, great though he was, would have found Arkle a real handful.

Arkle was a one off 'freak' with an amazing engine...won a King George by over a fence & a half on the bridle...people do forget how good he was!!!

Actually beaten twice - finished fifth in last race in Champion chase when stone past best. Azertyuiop was one of the best English 2 milers in last decade+ yet often made to look ordinary by M.Flyer.

By far the best 2m chase I've seen and has to be one of the best of all time. The ultimate champion Moscow Flyer being chased home by two outstanding 2m chasers in Azertyuiop & Well Chief. Lets hope Well Chief wins the Champion Chase so that he can rightly have his name alongside the other two as a champion Chase winner.
