Let's give Sapp some credit; he was fighting one of the best strikers in the world. Getting into the ring with Mirko takes far more guts than Mike Tyson, Muhammed Ali, or any other boxer in the prime of their careers. Mirko is a complete striker. Sapp deserves credit for just getting into the ring.

I am over-simplifying my comparison to make a point, but what would you think of a full grown man who fought a 10 year old boy and still got whipped ? IMHO, anyone who posseses the physical attributes that Sapp does (incredible size & strength) and yet fails to even inflict damage upon his opponent is not deserving of recognotion.

I don't dislike Sapp as a person, I dislike him as a fighter because he lacks legitimacy. As a fan, I require more of a fighter than simply the courage to show up. You or I could easily climb into the ring (theoretically!) with Mirko and prove that we were brave but could you honestly challenge his skills? We would be booed out of the ring, and rightly so.
